East Boothbay Cabin Rental Photos and Description

2 BR, 2 BA, sleeps 4 private + 2 children, large deck overlooking Linekin Bay

Five nights remain open at Paradise Cottage; September 17 - 21, 2016. These 5 nights are at the rate of $850 for two people.

We must start with a disclaimer. (If you can get beyond this paragraph, then please read on to find out what we are about.) WE, the owners, HAVE NOTHING TO DO with the "$113 AVG/NIGHT" rate quoted top, center right by HomeAway, which is FALSE ADVERTISING. It is not relevant or accurate!!! and does not correlate to our actual discounted rates, that do vary considerably by season and are DESCRIBED BELOW and in the rates section. To inform you about the "Book it Now" feature: the one time someone contacted us through that, the price quoted to them and BILLED to them was nearly double our actual discounted charge; we are not comfortable doing that to our customers! Instead, please CALL us at 207-633-6093, or email You may also go to our own website at for more photos and complete year-round rental information about all three of our properties.

Paradise Cottage is nestled in lush perennial gardens with woods behind and overlooking Linekin Bay on the ocean in Mid-Coast Maine with our own beach on a small cove shared only by our three properties along with our personal three kayaks and rowboat which you are welcome to borrow by signing a release.

Choices of seating in the living room will envelope you in comfort; the eating area will easily handle four people with more dining space at the table outside on the deck. Sink into the large sofa in front of floor to ceiling windows and watch nature waft before you. Free wireless internet provided. Here you can feel sequestered from life's bustle.

We are just 3 miles from quaint Boothbay Harbor, yet our unique pastoral location you can settle into the ebb and flow of tides, sunrise and sunset, and the harmony of wind and wildlife. The twittering of birds and sloshing of waves can be your surround sound year-round. If you open your eyes early you can watch lobster boats slip out in the morning and then see the sunrise gradually work its way down the opposite shore, but only if you sleep with the curtains open! If the evening is still, listen for the distant tones of fog horns. March is for owls calling at night. April evenings are joyous with the return of laughing gulls and peepers singing from the pond.

Yet antique shops, gourmet restaurants, live theater, and art studios are close-by, along with hiking; and in summer add in golf, fishing, and boat excursions; -- and ALWAYS relaxation! Kayak, swim or beach-comb right on our shore. Gear down a notch or three; the pace is slower here, with 'all the time in the world.' It's 'the way life should be!' Call us for more information or to make a reservation.

Rates at Paradise Cottage are PER PERSON: Only WEEKLY rentals in Summer, Saturday to Saturday. Two night minimum in all other seasons. The rates quoted below are DISCOUNTED PRICES for payments ONLY by cash or check; to pay by any other method including VRBO or HomeAway Payments please inquire for regular seasonal rates and let us know what payment method you want to use. If you call or email us and want to pay by cash or check, you will also avoid the additional 4 - 6% traveler's fee payable by booking online.

Oct. 29, 2016 - May 19, 2017; $990/week for 1 - 2 people or $165/night with each additional person at $35/night. SEE OUR SPECIALS for this period at the top or below!

Summertime or Fall rentals for 2017, if booked before the FIRST OF THE YEAR, can be held for 1/2 the normal deposit and are entirely refundable until then.

Again, the rates quoted above are our DISCOUNTED PRICES for payments ONLY by cash or check; to pay by any other method including VRBO or HomeAway Payments please inquire for regular seasonal rates and let us know what payment method you want to use. If you contact us and want to pay by cash or check you will also avoid the additional 4 - 6% traveler's fee payable by booking online. One half the total discounted rent is payable in advance as a DEPOSIT to hold your time; the remaining rent is due on arrival along with state tax, and OPTIONAL linen and pet fees. If you are unable to keep your reservation, we ask that you reschedule at another available time, or we can try to re-rent your dates less a $100 re-booking fee as long as you give us at least 30 days prior to your arrival date to do so.

WINTER SPECIALS: Two people can rent any two nights for $380 and get a third consecutive night free; four people $480. Or two people can rent a week for $990 and get two extra consecutive nights free. Rent two consecutive weeks and enjoy a 10% discount. November 1, 2015 all the way through May 20, 2016. Or rent by the month: see below for rates.

Besides being mesmerized by the wind on the water, during gardening seasons you will find calm in the blooms just outside the windows and off the porch. In summer read a book while you enjoy the dappled shade on the deck overlooking the water or on one of the benches in the colorful perennial garden. Watch seagulls, osprey, and an occasional eagle ride the updrafts. In winter you will observe a variety of ducks. Go beach-combing to discover varied creatures that abound along the shore of the Gulf of Maine. Borrow our kayak and paddle over the bay if it's calm. Writers will find Paradise Cottage a peaceful private spot where they can work on their manuscripts. Day hikes in one of the many land preserves are a favorite outdoor activity. Or, you can take a picnic to Ocean Point, and watch the waves roll in from the open sea, the lobster boats haul traps, and ships pass by. How about a romantic sail at sunset? Many boat excursions are offered in nearby Boothbay Harbor. You will also find lighthouse tours, museums, and art studios starting with ours next door! Some of the best eateries are right here in Boothbay!

Visit the East Boothbay General Store for gourmet sandwiches, pizza, morning coffee and paper. The harbor is just three miles away, and offers many shops, boat excursions, and gourmet restaurants. Live theater has a dramatic presence with events nightly at the Opera House, and Family Night on Tuesdays. Afternoon tea is a yearly tradition with some of our long time renters. Peruse the aquarium in summer, where children's programs and classes enhance the quality of the coastal experience. Take a short boat ride to Burnt Island (Mon or Thurs) where costumed guides re-enact life of a lighthouse keeper's family in the late '50's. Go antiquing, or gallery hopping starting with nearby Paradise Studio. L.L.Bean and other outlet stores are just an hour away in Freeport. Acadia National Park is a three to four hour drive down east, with miles of scenic coastline and quaint villages to explore in between. Perhaps you would like deep sea fishing or golf. By all means spend a day or two at our renowned Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens; it is well worth it! Call or email us for more information or to make a reservation.

About Mary Ellen Serina

When I purchased the family property in 1997, it needed a complete overhaul. I alternated spending a month in Colorado and a month in Boothbay while Paradise Cottage (my Grandmother's summer house) was winterized and expanded, and Seanook (the vacation cottage of my childhood) was practically torn down and rebuilt. The early March morning after I arrived the final time to stay, I met Ron, who was working for my contractor on Seanook. Since then we have done all the work around the place ourselves. That winter we built a scale model of our future shop/studio on the diningroom table and broke ground in August 2000 on the third building.

Mary Ellen Serina purchased this cabin in 1997

Why Mary Ellen Serina chose Boothbay Harbor Area

Seanook was bought by my mother, a native Mainer, in 1947. At the time it was nothing more than a tiny three month bungalow, but as a child I loved the spot and everything about it. My life-long dream was to return here to live. Ron and I stay on the property year-round. Every season is our favorite! We are forever changing and improving wherever we can. In everything we do we try to maintain some of the rustic seaside character of the place, yet add to its charm.

What makes this cabin unique

To wake up every morning to the call of seabirds and songbirds and the lapping of little waves (if you sleep with the window open), to views of the head of the bay as the sun creeps down the opposite shore (if you sleep with the curtains open), and with the verdant Maine woods behind you is about as close to Paradise as one can get; and then to be bathed in fresh salt air all day long and to have that long view across the water right by you for the looking any time gives you that relaxed feeling - "the way life should be."

Truly Paradise

  • 5 of 5

Paradise cottage definitely lives up to its name. The floor to ceiling windows offer a scenic view of Booth Bay and swimming at the private beach ,which boasted a fasinating tide pool at low tide, provided us with a lifetime of memories. The free row boat and kayaks were an added bonus. The owners, Mary Ellen and Ron, were very accommodating and by the time we left felt like family. The cottage is located on a quiet road but is just a short drive to great restaurants, shopping, and tourist attractions. We already miss this little piece of paradise and look forward to returning one day. I would highly recommend this property to anyone interested in visiting the Boothbay area.

Sheer Paradise

  • 5 of 5

Perfection finally found! After more than 50 years of visiting the Boothbay region, Paradise Cottage was "IT". Why the difference? Waterfront access at a more-than-competitive rental fee, great swimming, kayak(s) and row boat availability, location (7-min. drive into town of Boothbay, even closer to Ocean Point), and complete comfort in the cottage. Great jogging along this side road too - no crazy highway traffic! Amazing view from the deck. Nothing left to be desired! Icing on the cake: the owner's masterful fine art throughout the cottage, and gallery next door. Look no further!!

Enchanting place

  • 5 of 5

This was my first time to Maine with my children age 8 and 9. The cottage was more than I expected. I wasn't sure if kids could be entertained on their own here and it turned out they were just as happy to explore, kayak , walk and relax. It truly was relaxing for us all and they never wanted to leave even to just go get dinner. Our favorite little trip was to the botanical gardens where we spent hours enjoying the beauty. I really do hope we can come back some year and Mary Ellen and Ron were very kind and helpful.

Charming setting

  • 5 of 5

The owners Ron and Maryellen could not be more accommodating. Before our arrival Ron had set up a mooring for the sailing dingy that we trailered up. The gardens are truly magical. Amazed at the amount of time that Maryellen tends to them. They had just finished working on a private sitting garden. So quiet and peaceful and the smell of all the lovely flowers was tranquilizing. The house was quaint. Windows in all directions that look out onto the bay. Don't forget to ask about the bonfires. If you want privacy from noise, traffic and crowds this is the place to be. Just a short drive to town and plenty of things to do. We will be back to this cottage again.

Perfect Retreat

  • 5 of 5

I would be remiss if I didn't share our experience with anyone considering Paradise Cottage as a vacation destination in the Boothbay Harbor region of Maine. From the moment of first contact with Mary Ellen and Ron, every email promptly responded to about reservations and recommendations, to the point of arrival Ron greeting us with a flash light after dark helping us to settle in, serene and beautiful gardens, their artist studio that I could have spent hours in, to the comfortable and quaint vacation cottage overlooking the harbor....we could not have chosen a better place for my Mom and I to visit. I am thankful that we found this "slice of heaven" and would recommend without reservation anyone who appreciates simple beauty and gracious hospitality. Thank you Mary Ellen and Ron for welcoming us and offering your cottage for our enjoyment and relaxation - great memories were made that we will always treasure. Hope to visit again soon. Thanks again, Kim Hilton

Car: necessary

Paradise Cottage is located on Linekin Bay in East Boothbay 3 miles east of Boothbay Harbor by car or on foot via a walk through the woods from the Murray Hill Road (Boothbay Region Land Trust Trail). Thus we have the best of both worlds; private and secluded, yet not far from all the activities associated with a working waterfront. Enjoy the views and calm seclusion of our gardens or partake of other activities. We suggest the boat ride to Burnt Island where guides in character demonstrate the life of a Lighthouse Keeper's family in 1952. Children will also love the Aquarium where they will learn what critters to hunt for when they come back to explore our beach and in the shallow water. Don't miss our renowned Maine Botanical Gardens or the Railway Village with its antique cars. You can play golf at the Boothbay Country Club. Shops, art studios, gourmet restaurants, live theater, hiking, whale watching, antiquing and afternoon tea are just a few of the options nearby when you stay at Paradise Cottage.

Other Activities: Kayaking, Wildlife Viewing, Mini Golf, Boating, cross-country skiing, antiquing, gallery hopping, hiking

Golf: The Boothbay Country Club offers golf for our guests. Just call ahead for a T-time.
