Come and relax at our cabin right on the Hiawassee River in the Smoky Mountains. Our cabin is located on a very large secluded lot that overlooks the Hiawassee River. The views of the river and mountains are spectacular! Walk down the steps through the gently sloped back yard to the edge of the Hiawassee where you can enjoy the hammock, fish for trout, bass, and bream (THIS IS A FISHERMAN'S DREAM!), swimming, kayaking, rafting, or simply relax!
Our riverfront cabin is located halfway between Murphy and Hayesville, North Carolina (JUST 2 HOURS NORTH OF ATLANTA!) in the Smoky Mountains. Other nearby attractions include Brasstown Valley Resort and Golf (only 10 miles away), Fires Creek (wilderness area), Shooting Creek, Elf, and Lake Chatuge in Hiawassee is only 10 minutes away.
The cabin is a well decorated cedar cabin (with brand new HARD WOOD FLOORS throughout) which offers a master bedroom that has a queen bed set, Direct TV, and french doors that open to the screened in porch overlooking the river.
The guest room also offers a queen bedroom set. An open kitchen with a center island bar, breakfast/dining area, a family room with french doors that open to a screened-in deck, and a stone gas fireplace are just some of the amenities that make this a very charming place to stay. The open decks on both sides of the screened in porch lets you enjoy the rushing river view and sounds of the outdoors.
For those of you that like to entertain, you can enjoy our newly renovated entertainment room located at the back of the house. It has new hard wood floors, half bathroom, direct TV, new pool table, dart board, and French doors that open up to the river! Because of the above and our paved road access, our mountain hideaway is considered to be one of the best cabin rentals in the area.
We just got back from this lovely cabin. It was a last minute getaway. We wanted to take our kids to the mountains and experience snow for the first time. We got lucky as it snowed for 2 days! We went sledding and hiking. The area and river were beautiful covered with snow. When we were not outside in the cold we played pool and enjoyed ourselves in front of the fire. We did have trouble turning the gas fire on but the owner was very helpful and talked us through it over the phone.
Overall the cabin was clean and cozy and had everything we needed. We had a wonderful trip with the boys. We look forward to coming back in the summer and enjoying the river.
We were looking for a river cabin for a 2-3 night stay. Once I spoke with the owner of this cabin, we learned about the Possum Drop for New Year's Eve in nearby Brasstown, NC. The cabin itself sits directly on the river which was very nice. While I prefer seclusion, there is a house right on top of this cabin which does not show up in the pics provided. The cabin itself is in need of some repairs, especially on the outside deck. We also never found light switches for the outside lights and was glad we had brought flashlights to be able to see how to go up and down the steps in the dark to the fire pit by the river. (There were lights outside, and appeared to be new, just never found the switches). The cabin itself seemed very cozy to us and comfortable beds, but lacked in nice sheets and towels/washcloths. Also, the water tastes horrible (definitely bring bottled water if you drink water or want to make iced tea). The kitchen was very well stocked with everything we needed for cooking. (No dishwasher, so be prepared to wash by hand).. Also, we did use the gas fireplace, once we figured out how to turn it on, and it did provide warmth and coziness. We did have a lot of rain before and during our visit, so we did not get to fish as we'd hoped. Also, the pool table is not level, so don't plan on hosting any world cup matches... A musty smell in the game room area, but was too cold outside to open it up to air it out.. We may give this cabin another try during the Spring or Summer in hopes of better weather. The owner may also want to put up new street number signage, as we did drive right past the cabin and went way down the road before turning around for another look. It is not marked where easily visible for first time visitors. Overall, was a nice experience for the money.
My husband and two children went to this cabin in the middle of June for a few days. It was actually our second time there. We went years ago and thought we would come back. The first time was great and this time was even better! We love the new King bed in the master room that was just added. The cabin was clean and we could tell all the upgrades like painting they have done through the years. The river was beautiful as before and the area right in the backyard is really breathtaking. We had fun fishing, tubing and relaxing! We won't wait so long to come back!
My boyfriend and I stayed here over the weekend. Strickland was very accommodating and understanding, even though I had pretty last minute plans! The cabin was very clean and well-maintained. I'm a neat freak and would notice otherwise. We really enjoyed being so close to the river, and our dogs did too! The river and area overall was really pretty even for winter. Even though it was definitely cold outside, it was an excellent place for a "getaway" and we found neat local stuff to do: thrift store shopping - there are SO many around, visited a local winery called Eagle Fork Vineyards, ate at this restaurant called Brother's (that was absolutely amazing and inexpensive!), and just relaxed. It was definitely worth the trip.
This is our 4th year staying here and each year we say this is the best year yet and this year was the best year yet! The cabin was in perfect order when we got there. The weather was great and the fish were biting. We enjoyed fishing, playing pool and grilling on the charcoal grill which makes the food taste so much better. The sounds from the river can be heard anywhere in the house and is soothing, peaceful and relaxing. The trip to the falls in Hayesville 5 miles away was a nice afternoon hike for several of the family members. Saturday we went to the Farmers Market in Murphy, NC and enjoyed walking around the town. We did not know that Hayesville, NC has a farmers market until the day before we left and we plan to go next year when we return for our 5th year to this wonderful cabin. Our dogs had a great time, especially running at the river, getting in the water and chasing each other with sticks in their mouths. As always, Strickland - the owner - called us the 1st day to make sure we got there safely and that everything was perfect in the cabin. If there is a problem, we tell him or call him and he comes to fix the problem or sends someone right away to take care of it. No matter what the problem is, he wants to make it right and will go out of his way to make sure it gets done and our stay is a great one. He doesn't care how many times you call or email him. He is the type of owner that wants to make your stay an excellent experience and will go out of his way to make sure this happens. For instance, the coffee maker was broken and he had a neighbor go by and pick up a new one that night and bring it to us along with coffee for us. Now that is instant service.
This was our kids favorite vacation that they have ever been on. We went white water rafting, noodling (aka Hillbilly Handfishing), went down slide rock and rented a pontoon boat. The kids loved all of those things, but when we asked them what they wanted to do the last two days of vacation, they said "we just want to hang at our place". So we cooked big breakfasts, swung on the rope swing, and floated, fished and swam in the river. Then when we got hungry we had hot dogs and smores over the fire. From everywhere on the property, you can hear the water rushing over some of the rocks in the river. We absolutely loved it. All I can say is.....perfect.
