Come and relax at our cabin right on the Hiawassee River in the Smoky Mountains. Our cabin is located on a very large secluded lot that overlooks the Hiawassee River. The views of the river and mountains are spectacular! Walk down the steps through the gently sloped back yard to the edge of the Hiawassee where you can enjoy the hammock, fish for trout, bass, and bream (THIS IS A FISHERMAN'S DREAM!), swimming, kayaking, rafting, or simply relax!
Our riverfront cabin is located halfway between Murphy and Hayesville, North Carolina (JUST 2 HOURS NORTH OF ATLANTA!) in the Smoky Mountains. Other nearby attractions include Brasstown Valley Resort and Golf (only 10 miles away), Fires Creek (wilderness area), Shooting Creek, Elf, and Lake Chatuge in Hiawassee is only 10 minutes away.
The cabin is a well decorated cedar cabin (with brand new HARD WOOD FLOORS throughout) which offers a master bedroom that has a queen bed set, Direct TV, and french doors that open to the screened in porch overlooking the river.
The guest room also offers a queen bedroom set. An open kitchen with a center island bar, breakfast/dining area, a family room with french doors that open to a screened-in deck, and a stone gas fireplace are just some of the amenities that make this a very charming place to stay. The open decks on both sides of the screened in porch lets you enjoy the rushing river view and sounds of the outdoors.
For those of you that like to entertain, you can enjoy our newly renovated entertainment room located at the back of the house. It has new hard wood floors, half bathroom, direct TV, new pool table, dart board, and French doors that open up to the river! Because of the above and our paved road access, our mountain hideaway is considered to be one of the best cabin rentals in the area.
My wife and I invited our two closest friends for a quiet weekend in the Smokey Mountains. We really enjoyed the drive up from ATL. The leaves were amazing and the drive through Helen always a treat. After arriving and unpacking the car, we drove over to Chevelle's for a good dinner, we all enjoyed it. We enjoyed a fire down by the river that night as well. The next day we explored the area and ended back at the cabin for some football and pool. Mike and I had a great time shooting pool. We even had a couples tournament. The mornings are awesome, enjoying coffee on the screened in deck, listening to the river flow over the rocks. If you want a nice place to get away from the hustle and bustle, this is the place to go.
My elderly parents have been wanting to go somewhere to just getaway for a while so my husband and I booked the cabin on the river and brought them along on the trip. The four of us wanted a place where we could just chill out and relax and we certainly found it at the cabin. Sitting on the back porch listening to the river was wonderful. The cabin is very nice and comfortable in a very quiet setting. We certainly didn't want to leave and come back to the rat race! The owner is extremely nice and made sure that we had everything we needed. We will certainly be back and hopefully very soon!
We have been every year to this cabin for our anniversary/family vacation since 2010, we love it and we are already scheduled to vacation next year. The owner is friendly, accomidating, ready to please and come to your aid at any time when you need something. And if he can't get there, he will send someone who can help. We really enjoyed our first trip to the new Harrah's Casino in Murphy, NC. We had our annual fishing tournament and caught the most rainbow this year out of 6 years of going. The total caught by 4 people in a week was 44 fish, 8 tree limbs, 6 sticks, and a shoe. We also enjoyed our pool tournaments and cooking all our meals on the charcoal grill. Less of a mess in the kitchen and the food taste better. Our dogs love the river and the cabin. They swim, drag sticks out of the river and act like country dogs. We love sitting on the screened in porch listening to the river and watching the wildlife. We did not arrive in time for the farmers market in Murphy, NC. We did go just to walk around and visit the stores there. If you want a great private get away, this is the place. Thank you, Strickland! You are the best owner and have become a dear friend to us.
Our family of 4 (husband and 2 children 8 and 10) are from Ft. Lauderdale, FL and this is our second trip to this cabin. We came 3 years ago during the same time period. I can't say enough about how pleasurable the owners of this cabin make this experience. The process is easy and the cabin and river made our vacation one to remember. The cabin has always been clean with a kitchen full of everything needed to cook and stay at home. The kids and my husband fished everyday and caught several nice trout. The river is right in the back yard and is beautiful. It rained one day and we stayed in and played pool and darts in the back room. There is much to explore in the area but our favorite times were at the cabin and spending time together. Thanks for having us again and we look forward to coming back again soon!
We just got back from this lovely cabin. It was a last minute getaway. We wanted to take our kids to the mountains and experience snow for the first time. We got lucky as it snowed for 2 days! We went sledding and hiking. The area and river were beautiful covered with snow. When we were not outside in the cold we played pool and enjoyed ourselves in front of the fire. We did have trouble turning the gas fire on but the owner was very helpful and talked us through it over the phone.
Overall the cabin was clean and cozy and had everything we needed. We had a wonderful trip with the boys. We look forward to coming back in the summer and enjoying the river.
We were looking for a river cabin for a 2-3 night stay. Once I spoke with the owner of this cabin, we learned about the Possum Drop for New Year's Eve in nearby Brasstown, NC. The cabin itself sits directly on the river which was very nice. While I prefer seclusion, there is a house right on top of this cabin which does not show up in the pics provided. The cabin itself is in need of some repairs, especially on the outside deck. We also never found light switches for the outside lights and was glad we had brought flashlights to be able to see how to go up and down the steps in the dark to the fire pit by the river. (There were lights outside, and appeared to be new, just never found the switches). The cabin itself seemed very cozy to us and comfortable beds, but lacked in nice sheets and towels/washcloths. Also, the water tastes horrible (definitely bring bottled water if you drink water or want to make iced tea). The kitchen was very well stocked with everything we needed for cooking. (No dishwasher, so be prepared to wash by hand).. Also, we did use the gas fireplace, once we figured out how to turn it on, and it did provide warmth and coziness. We did have a lot of rain before and during our visit, so we did not get to fish as we'd hoped. Also, the pool table is not level, so don't plan on hosting any world cup matches... A musty smell in the game room area, but was too cold outside to open it up to air it out.. We may give this cabin another try during the Spring or Summer in hopes of better weather. The owner may also want to put up new street number signage, as we did drive right past the cabin and went way down the road before turning around for another look. It is not marked where easily visible for first time visitors. Overall, was a nice experience for the money.
