|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
Brooks Hacienda is located on the doorstep of Manuel Antonio National Park, one of Costa Rica's most prized national parks and the only park that has beach access. It is common to be visited by 3 types of monkeys daily. That is your view. You can listen to the waves pounding the beach. The ocean is about a 10 minute drive to one of the most pristine beaches in the world.
There are many covered decks overlook the swimming pool which is a main feature of this property. From this area one can enjoy the reflection in the skies of the beautiful Costa Rican sunsets and view wildlife in the trees of the tropical rain forest.
The top part of the house is your space.(the owners live below in a private suite from Nov to April) The home was built in Nov 2008, so everything is still like new. The 2 bedrooms are a very good size and each one has its own private full bath. Each bedroom has a queen bed and one bedroom has a single bed by the window... which is full size single bed with 6 ' high density foam... very comfortable.
The kitchen is state of the art and equipped for you to prepare dinner using the local fresh produce and meats. You can enjoy your meal in the elegant dining area inside or on the deck outside. The home is outfitted with beautifully Costa Rican made furniture.
My husband, Randy and I, Kate are from British Columbia, Canada. We have a organic pear orchard in that province and have been active organic advocators since 1991. We have enjoyed visiting Costa Rica since 1994. In 2004, we decided on the location of Manuel Antonio (after many venturers around the country) and bought a lot. It took us 4 years to build Brooks Hacienda. It was a great experience, especially learning spanish and conversing with our contractor and employees. We live 6 months in Canada and 6 months in Costa Rica. We feel we have the perfect life. We love to meet people, so we built accommodations for people to come and stay at our lovely home and enjoy it and this beautiful country.
Kate Brooks purchased this house in 2008
We chose to buy property in Manuel Antonio because it is the rainforest. The animals, wildlife, flora and fauna are alive and well. We love the vegetation and the warmth and moisture the climate offers. We also love the people of Manuel Antonio. The locals as well as the settled ex-pax.
We travelled to many different areas of Costa Rica and experienced different developed tourist areas. This area has all the availability of tourist attractions and great restaurants as more populated areas, but we get the more adventuresome crowd. It is a smaller area and so far, the community has been able to keep the chain hotels at bay. Manuel Antonio is close to the old port town of Quepos, which offers great shopping for all your grocery supplies. There is everything from fresh seafood, vegetable and fruits to organic products sold in a grocery store. This quaint town also offers good restaurants and night life. You can enjoy many cultural events if your here at the right time of year. Costa Ricans love to celebrate any event.
Brooks Hacienda offers accommodations in a quiet, private neighbourhood. There are 8 luxury homes in this area owned by Americans and Canadians. The house is about a 15 minute walk from the main road. This allows you a very relaxed and tranquil vacation. We are away from the traffic, fumes and walk in traffic. The house is new since 2008, so all the appliances, housewares, and fixtures are in 100% working order. The view from the many decks is jungle. You cannot see the ocean but you can hear it. It is just thru the park on the other side of the trees. The house is situated far enough away from the trees that you do not feel enclosed. The house borders on Manuel Antonio National Park so you see many different animals and creatures, and hear sounds that you would never hear if you were not on the border of the park. The pool at Brooks Hacienda is a vacation in itself. Always sparkling clean. It is large enough to do your laps as well as float around on one of the many air mattresses and enjoy a tanning session. The beach area with jacuzzis at your back, is a great place to sit and read a book while staying cool. Brooks Hacienda is a welcoming home and awaits your visit.
We rented Brooks Hacienda for 4 nights in July, and were looking forward to a relaxing end to our vacation. Unfortunately, that was not found.
When we first arrived, we were very excited! At a quick glance, the house looked great. As we started settling in, we began to notice it wasn't so great. There were used bars of soap left in the bathrooms, one even had a hair on it. There were dirty and ripped pool floats left by the pool. The pool deck was dirty. There was a used bandaid on a table by the pool. The dishes were all dirty, so we had to hand wash everything before we used it. One of the bedroom ac remotes was broken so we had to climb on the nightstand to turn it on.
We decided to try and laugh this off, and that's when we heard it - loud construction. We went on the pool deck to see where it was coming from, and it was right next door! A huge house being redone that overlooks the pool. There was loud construction noise from 7am until 6pm every day we were there, including Saturday!! It was awful. We were unable to enjoy any nature sounds or just relax because there was constant drills, hammers and other loud noises at all times. We ended up doing all day excursions most days just to get away from the noise! If we wanted to hear construction noises all day, we would've stayed home. Because of the construction, there was no wildlife to be found at the house. What a huge disappointment. Side note: the owners knew about the construction, but didn't mention it to me. Had I known, I would've never booked.
Some other points: this is an open air main living space, and it is muggy during the day. There are also no blinds in the bedrooms, so be prepared for the sun to shine in at 5am. The lighting in the house is very dark, so unless it's sunny outside, it's hard to see anything. The house is nowhere near the main road - definitely not a 10 minute walk like we were told. A taxi ride cost $16-20 to get anywhere along the main road. Last, we had the joy of a scorpion in the house. It just walked right underneath the pool deck door because no doors or windows in the house are airtight. Unpleasant surprise.
We complained to management many times, and their only solution was to offer us a free night for a future trip. No thanks, we will never be back. And, we should receive a partial refund for what we experienced.
Brooks Hacienda was an absolutely fantastic place for the two couples in our group to spend our time in Manuel Antonio. The house owners were very friendly and always available to answer any questions we had. The house was clean, well stocked and even more beautiful in person. The pool was fantastic. It was deep, warm, and near the edge of the Manuel Antonio National Park, so we were able to experience the local wildlife, including having Titi monkeys running along the patio. The house was within a 10 minute drive to Manuel Antonio beach and Quepos, which was a convenient location for experiencing everything the area had to offer. We highly recommend Brooks Hacienda. Would go back in a heart beat!
Brooks Hacienda was absolutely amazing. This house and the owners are simply fantastic. We loved every minute of of our stay here. The house is gorgeous and had all of the amenities we needed for our stay. The beds were incredibly comfortable and the house was spotless. The pool was gorgeous and perfect for a morning swim or to cool off in the evening. The house is located on a very large piece of property backing onto the forest so we experienced all kinds of animals right outside the door. I really enjoyed sitting outside early in the morning with my coffee and watching the toucans in the trees! Kate and Randy were fantastic hosts and great people. Randy took us for a little hike out the back of his property one afternoon to check out a sloth relaxing in the trees. They were extremely helpful and available if we had any questions or needed any assistance but they totally respected our privacy. Kate set us up with a tour guide to guide us through the national park which was a great tour. We got to see all kinds of monkeys, lizards, iguana's and beautiful beaches. We were also only a 5 minute drive to the beach which was great because that is where we spent most of our days. They also had a couple of boogie boards which they let us use during our stay which was a lot of fun. All in all we had an incredibly amazing time here. We traveled around to Arenal and Tamarindo as well and this was certainly the highlight of our trip. If (when) we return we would really love to stay here again and would highly recommend this place to anyone coming to Manoel Antonio. Kate and Randy, we hope to see you guys again soon!
The house was perfect for our family - me, wife, and two girls (11 and 14). Sitting on the balcony or the pool and just looking out into the jungle is amazing. The house is beautiful inside and out and is very private. We saw capuchin and howler monkeys as well as toucans right outside the house during our week. In fact, the howlers has a raucous _early_ morning hooting session one day! The pool is large and is perfect for relaxing and playing after a day of touring.
Kate and Randy were terrific hosts. I would strongly recommend following their advice on which tours to take. We did MA park tour with Dago, rafting with Mel, and the ziplining/Santa Juana tour. All were great and very professionally run by knowledgeable and fun locals. It is a 5 minute drive to the local grocery store (Super Joseth) which is small, but has a very good selection of high quality foods. There is a small corner market about 2 minutes away if you just need a few basic items. MA beach is about a ten minute drive from the house. Ignore all the aggressive parking guys and drive all the way to the end to the free lot just off the circle. We really enjoyed the restaurants in MA, most notably El Lagarto (3 minute drive) for it's awesome ocean and sunset views and great wood-grilled dishes.
Our family stayed at Brooks Hacienda for a week over the 2014 Thanksgiving holiday and had a wonderful trip. As other reviews have stated, this is a great location to see the rainforest and wildlife right from the deck and poolside. During our stay we were able to see and hear all types of monkeys and birds with a beautiful backdrop of the rainforest preserve in the backyard. We prefer to stay in a quieter, more relaxing place away from the crowded resorts, so we found Brooks Hacienda to be the perfect spot. The pool is great and all the features of the kitchen, bedrooms, and bathroooms are very nice. The house was very clean and the beds are comfortable. Laundry facilities are also available.
This is the first time that we have rented a place where the owners were so close by, and we found it very helpful to have Randy and Kate available for questions when we needed it. Kate hooked us up with a great guide for a day trip to the Manuel Antonio Preserve and a jungle canopy tour that included ziplining, swimming at a waterfall, horseback riding in the mountains, and a Costa Rican style lunch at Santa Juana, a small village high in the mountains. This was the best day trip and tour experience that our family has ever been on. Both tours picked us up and dropped us off at the house, so it was very convenient. Kate and Randy really went out of their way to make sure our family had a great experience and had everything we need. Kate even picked up some groceries ahead of time for us since we were arriving late. She also had great recommendations for local restaurants and we found Cafe Milagro, Emilio's Cafe, El Lagarto, and El Wagon Pizza to be very good. We would recommend a 4 wheel drive vehicle as the road is a little rough to get to the house, and it is nice to have if you want to explore any beaches or other activities that are off the main roads. This is a quiet neighborhood, so if you are looking for a party spot, this probably would not be the best fit.
We can't wait to come back....Pura Vida!
A year ago 4 of us spent 3 weeks there. Kate and Randy responded to all our questions before and gave great suggestions and assistance while we were there at BH. What they advertised is what we got...and more. That trip exceeded our expectations!
We are completing a 3 week trip in Punta Mita Mexico and have been greatly disappointed by our accommodations. The owner mislead us and falsely advertised his condo. We have been remembering Brooks Hacienda and how lovely it was and most importantly how we got what was advertised and MORE. Missing you Kate and Randy, Diane, Karen, Jo, and Marian
Canopy tours, Coffee plantation tours, tropical garden tours, butterfly garden tours, parasailing, catamaran, boogie boarding.horseball riding, repelling waterfalls, in shore fishing, hiking to hot pools, great beaches and wonderful restaurants.

Brooks Hacienda is now offering the lower suite from April 27/16 to Jan 1/17, for a extra $125 a night. This can only be rented along with the upper level so we can accommodate 8 guests. One master suite and 2 bedrooms which have one queen and one single in each room. Not suitable with families with small children as the lower suite has a separate entrance. If the children are older and able to be on their own, then it would work. The lower suite is self contained so lovely for another couple, or grandma and grandpa.
50% deposit upon booking. The balance is due 60 days prior to arrival. Method of payment is Visa or Certified Cheque if the reservation is 60 days from check in date, full payment is due.
