Patricia and I met and fell in love here in San Juan del Sur. I am originally from British Columbia, Canada, but have been a full time resident of Nicaragua for the passed 11 years. Patricia was born in Costa Rica and moved to Nica when she was young. My passion is surfing, fishing and other outdoor activities. Patricia is studying oriental mecidine and massage in Managua, and we hope to eventually put her skills to good use hosting wellness and yoga retreats. We are always excited to host new visitors.
Costa Dulce purchased this villa in 2005
Because it is the most beautiful place I have ever been! I have traveled North and South America, Europe, Asia, and the Carribean and this seriously is the spot.
Apart from the private beach and surf break, we also have an incredible local staff, who work hard to ensure your stay is unforgetable.
I have stayed at costa dulce for a couple days and Im impressed with the secluded and idyllic location. Im currently staying in the "Big Bungalow" which is located right ontop of the hill, overviewing beautiful Playa Escameca. The Bungalow is rather spaceous with a big fan in the middle of the room, a double bed and 3 extra beds. Waking up to a sunrise view, the oceans whooshing and the birds singing is a daily pleasure here and I absolutely love it!
The beach feels like a private beach due to its "C" shape and the hills cupping it at each side. You can surf, lay by the water and relax with absolutely nobody disturbing you! If you are into yoga you will absolutely be in awe of the yoga shala overviewing the beach- there is no better feeling that practicing in a space that is open and surrounded to nature like this is.
The kitchen staff will prepare three homecooked meals daily for you, using local and fresh ingridients. Heylin, the night staff guy, is such a sweatheart, he will help you with anything you need.
Due to its secluded location make sure to get here before sunset. the trail that gets you here is not lightened and you might have a hard time getting here.
Overall I will say this place is an amazing place to unwind and relax!
We brought a group on mission trip here after working hard in northern Nica. We wanted something away from the crazy and different from normal tourist visits. We found it here! Our group did surfing, horseback riding, spearfishing, and a trip into San Juan del Sur. We had Theresa cook for us. It was really an awesome experience and the owners were very welcoming and helpful to us! Take them seriously on the directions and difficulty driving in, especially if you possibly may arrive at night. I failed to review the directions and just went off GPS. We wasted an hour in paradise. We hope to return for mission trips in the future!
Well I just don't know what to say other than thank you to all the wonderful people at Escameca Ecolodge. We were blown away by the amazing peacefulness and the priceless view. Being able to hear those crashing waves on the beach breaking the tranquil silence of the serene location was something wonderful. But the most spectacular part of the stay was the people who run and take care of the place. From Gonzalo, Grace and Donald to the owner Tyson and even the German girl and her husband who lived nearby. They all really came to my aid when my wife became deathly ill from a place we ate at in Panama City a few days earlier. We wished we could have stayed the whole time at this place but my wife's condition deteriorated so badly that we had to be transported to the local clinic for her to receive treatment. The staff at the Ecolodge helped me carry my wife to the car and the German family contributed their expertise in these situations and recommended I get my wife to a hospital quickly. I mean all of the people including Tyson the owner just dropped what they were doing to hang with me the whole day and help me with getting everything I needed for my wife. It was just fabulous and I just want to say that you all are wonderful human beings. If you want to stay somewhere that is truly breathtaking and you know that the people will be right there for you I suggest you stay here.
Awesome place !
We actually drove there ourselves, you have to look for a sign that says "Costa Dulce" in a curve at the top of a hill, couple minutes after the town Escamequita and passed the Yanqui beach entrance... (i would have loved to know this before.. !) Don't forget to make your grocery and rhum shopping in San Juan before getting there (Pali is a good place but the market in San Juan is packed with local stuff and there is a fish market by the sea) because there is just nothing there !
This place is in a remote area with a private lot and beach but just 30 minutes from san juan del sur! It is perfectly design to have a comfortable and relaxing stay with all you need! The kitchen is just awesome, fully equipped and a perfect place to hang out, especially with the hammock-hunged porch !
I would recommend it to anybody !
If you can't find any waves in costa dulce, you can walk 10-15 minutes to playa yanqui which is almost as empty ! You'll be surfing with lots of winged buddies fishing around you! Just awesome memories !
I came here for a yoga retreat in January and stayed for a whole week. This place was amazingly beautiful and I could write an entire essay about that alone but I have to mention the staff who do their best to create a friendly atmosphere and ensure that you have the best possible time. The food, the excursions and everything right down to our travel to and from the airport in Managua, were meticulously planned to where I didn't have to think about anything but getting up in the morning and seeing what was in store.
Gonzalo and Ivan were happy to drive us around to the local beaches and into town on various occasions throughout the week, as well as take us horseback riding, fishing and to see the sea turtles on nearby Playa La Flor. Kit will teach you how to surf and take you to the various surf breaks around the area. The beach on Playa Escameca is secluded and gorgeous. You can hike to the opposite end to see the Rio Escameca and swim in the lagoon there. On a clear day (which is basically every day here) you can see the mountains in Costa Rica on the horizon to the south.
The cabanas were incredibly comfortable and so well designed. Mine had two double beds (one on a loft) and a murphy bed (which we didn't use). Every cabana has a hammock outside as well. The construction of the cabanas is thoughtful and with minimal impact on the environment in mind and everything seems to fit right into the hillside. Every building has a thatched roof and is open to the air, with screens to keep out the bugs (and there’s not that many of them). You will wake up to the sound of the waves every morning and gentle breezes (sometimes it does get pretty windy). There is a huge yoga pavillion above one of the kitchens so the place is perfect to host a retreat but also to just spend a lovely week with friends.
Thanks to Tyson, Vera, Gonzalo and everyone else for the trip of a lifetime! I’ll definitely be coming back soon!
This is truly paradise! We stayed for one week to begin with. Left for some other beaches, but decided to come back, and ended up staying ten more nights. The beach and the view from the balcony was amazing. A lot of wildlife. From the house we saw dolphins and whales in the ocean, families of howler monkeys were passing through right under the balcony and a lot more. Surf was really good! Tyson, Seth, Ivan and the rest are great people! We all hope we will return soon!
Thanks for everything! / Mattias, David and Ville
PS. We wish Tyson and Patricia all the best! Congratulations
