Simply put, you will not find a better value in the area! Our view is the THE BEST in the lower Smokies! Our furnishings and decor are modern and comfortable. Be sure to read our previous guests comments near the bottom of our site and see why so many people return to our fabulous mountain getaway! Thanks, Lorin & Dawn Miles

Why Lorin Miles chose North Carolina Mountains

Being avid outdoors enthusiasts, we could not have picked a better place to build our dream home! It is perfectly located between Franklin, Bryson City and the Nantahala River area. Hiking, rafting, fishing, waterfalls, mountain biking, gem mining, restaurants and great shopping are just a few of the things within minutes of the home. Our home is an easy drive from the Asheville or Atlanta airports and within a 6 hour drive to over 25 large cities! Our location allows you to feel like you are 'away from it all'... yet it is close enough to run in to town if you need anything. Our view is a live, ever changing canvas of National Forest with layers of beautiful mountains!

What makes this chalet unique

One of the main reasons we love our home is the access to the Little Tennessee River. The river flows just a 5 minute walk away from the home! It is one of the most majestic rivers you can find. Our relationship with the Great Smoky Mountain Fish Camp allows us to help you plan your river activities! Just ask when inquiring about our home and we will be glad to put you in touch with them! The home offers absolute tranquility. Fresh coffee and sitting out on the deck listening to the wildlife in the early morning is an unforgettable experience! Watch as the sun lights up the incredible mountain range! This has become a 'guests favorite activity'. We invite you to come and stay with us to see why!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Lorin & Dawn, The giant spectacular view that greets the first time

visitor to your franklin vacation home is absolutely stunning! It is something

that photographs (even good ones like yours) just cannot capture. Despite

this, I persisted in taking pictures from the deck at all times of the day, in

sun, clouds, fog and rain. The look and mood of the mountains is always

changing and always beautiful. During our week here, we traveled hundreds

of miles around North carolina through the national forests and parks. The

best scenery was always the view from your home, waiting right here for us at

the end of the day.

The home is attractively furnished, fully equipped and the interior decorating

is just right. The kitchen is great. The wall of windows brings the mountain

views in to almost every part of the home. I'm even going to miss the bear in

the bathroom, making his offering from the roll between his paws.

Congratulations on what you have achieved here. You were very smart to

realize the potential of this site, and bold enough to commit to a complicated

and undoubtedly expensive home construction. This is a special and

unforgettable place, and Kathy and I are very happy that we had the

opportunity to stay here. Best wishes!

Home away from home with views to relax and soak in!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay! House was well stocked, able to prepare meals just like home. Very comfortable and well maintained. The view posted is not exaggerated, it is truly beautiful! Owner was most accommodating with providing great local info. However, if you use the directions to the Appalachian Trail on a good gravel road, be ready for an adventure. That road was a little scary! Loved exploring the spots the locals know about. A little far from town so plan accordingly. Great vacation, you won't be disappointed.

Lovely home with attentive owners

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful property. We really enjoyed our time at this well appointed home. We were not lacking a thing. The owners were wonderful to work with. After a long day of hiking, we came home to no air conditioning. Lorin was quick to resolve the problem. He really cares that his property is well maintained. We had a wonderful time with many fun adventures. Highly recommend renting this beautiful home.

Perfect Seclusion with superb view!

  • 5 of 5

This was a great experience for me. The owner is very accommodating and has provided more than you need at this property. The cabin was clean and had all modern amenities like TV and Internet, a wonderful hot tub and large kitchen which was stocked with all kinds of useful equipment. The road is a bit steep in places but I had no problem even with a RWD sedan in the winter. The deck provided amazing views day and night with stars abound. It is definitely one of the best properties available in the area.

Unfortunately, This will be our last time here

  • 1 of 5

My wife and I have been coming to Lorin and Dawn's home for 7 years now. This last trip will be our last to their home, which is unfortunate. The reason for the poor review and our feelings about the home is a due to multiple trips with continued problems and challenges. Only one or two were ever reported as we are not ones to complain, nor do we expect perfection. However, we are paying for a quality experience and that is not the case with this home anymore.

After staying two nights, we noted that there was a faint smell in the home that we could not place. While it was disturbing, we went to bed not thinking much more of it. The next morning, we noted the smell again but we were going out for the day in hopes that the smell would subside. That afternoon, we returned to what could be described as a toxic permeating fume coming from the return vent in the kitchen. It was so bad we opened all doors and got our small child outside of the home.

We searched all over the house to see if we could locate the source but could not do so. Naturally, we called Lorin and sent an email to him to advise of the situation. Lorin was not available to take our call our message at the time. Since the smell was too much to handle, we made the decision to vacate the premises immediately as we felt we could have been in significant danger had we stayed. We had a fairly long drive in the evening to make and needed to make a decision sooner than later.

Lorin eventually responded that evening and advised he had a service call done and could not find any gas leaks or issues with the home.

My request of Lorin was simple; to provide a refund on one nights stay. This was met with reluctance and comments around our hasty decision to leave yet, we were not provided any solutions or alternatives at the time. The cause of the smell could not be determined, yet Lorin said that the issue was "not dangerous." How would he know it was not dangerous if no one could smell anything or find a source?

We did what any normal person would do to protect themselves and their family, yet we received a note from Lorin about other renters looking for freebies for absurd reasons that I would laugh at as well.

If there were not continued issues every time we come up, we may have chalked this one up and let it go. Lorin treated us as if we were first time guests, not repeat guests who have taken great care of his home as if it was our own.

Owner's Response: It is very unfortunate our guest chose not to follow our protocol of notifying us if there was an issue right away. This guest waited more than 24 hours after detecting a possible issue and notified us on a Holiday evening. Despite this, we were able to get a professional out to the home within 20 minutes. This is documented with the VRBO customer care department. Our air conditioning unit blew a capacitor and released an electrical odor for a short time. This is a very common, non-threatening malfunction that happens at some point to all AC units. This guest chose to panic and leave hastily and unfortunately assume there was a dangerous situation when there was clearly not. This guest also wanted an absurd refund. We are pleased that the documentation on the repair we provided VRBO resulted in them closing the case and ruling in our favor. We will continue to provide great service, and offer one of the premiere rentals in all of Western North Carolina. As the old saying goes: "There is always someone who will be unhappy, who you just cannot please" Unfortunately this was the case here.

Spectacular view!!!

Upon arrival your cares will melt away as you take in the beautiful, magnificent view, seriously you will not find a better one! Then breathe in the fresh mountain air. This is a wonderful get-away, that offers tranquility, comfort, and charming rustic decor. The large hot tub was wonderful, and the kitchen was well equipped. We enjoyed ourselves thoroughly, this is a piece of heaven, and we highly recommend staying here.

The pictures do not do justice to the beautiful views! My husband and I enjoyed a weeks vacation in May along with our 2 dogs. We found the home to be very comfortable and had everything we needed for a relaxing week. The location was great for our day trips to various hiking trails and waterfalls. We hope to return some time in the fall when I imagine a patchwork of beautiful colors. The owners were very easy to work with and easy to get in touch with once we were there.

Owner's Response: Thank you and so glad you had a great visit! We do hope you can return in the fall sometime and see the incredible layers of color! We have never seen fall color display as nice as the one from our deck!. This year we have upgraded all the kitchen appliances, hot tub and added a wood burning fireplace for everyone to enjoy! Thanks for choosing our home! Lorin
