Situated on almost two acres of land off a private road the house is situated on a point of land forty feet from the water's edge. The main house and semi-attached cottage look straight down picturesque Somes Sound with the mountains of Acadia National Park on either side of the point. The sunsets from the side deck are spectacular. It is a beautiful location for a Maine vacation. The compound located in Northeast Harbor is only minutes away from Acadia National Park trailheads, golf, tennis, and Bar Harbor attractions.
The main cottage, facing south, was fully renovated in 2007 and is bright and cheerful with water views from every room. There is a deck surrounding two sides of the main house with easy access to the shore. The semi attached cottage, with its own deck, is a step away from the rear patio deck of the main house. It too has picture perfect water and mountain views.
The main house is accessed from the patio deck in the rear. From there one enters a foyer. To the left is the great room with a modern kitchen with granite countertops and a large island opening to a spacious living room overlooking Somes Sound, with full length slider door/window sets providing easy access to the property. There is a dining area, an entertainment center, and granite fireplace for a warm fire on a cool Maine evening. A small hall leads to a den, powder room and master suite. To the right of the foyer is a two bedroom wing.
The kitchen is fully equipped. The dining area comfortably seats 8 and flows seamlessly to the living area. Off the living room is a small bedroom with 2 beds and its own view of the Sound, , and easy access to a 1/2 bath. The Master Bedroom Suite has an Olympic size queen bed with a bathroom and shower. In addition, it has its own sliders with direct access to the outdoors. On the other side of the foyer there is a wonderful wing containing two bedrooms and two full baths. The guest room with queen bed offers a private bath with a tub and shower. The back bed room has a king-size bed that is two twins pushed together which can be separated if requested, and has a bathroom with a shower. It too has its own slider doors with direct access to its own short path to the shore. The semi-attached cottage, which is more rustic, consists of a large room with a queen size bed, and room single bed, if requested, a bath and shower and its own deck with beautiful views down Somes Sound.
There is a convenient rear entryway with easy access to parking for three cars. Attached to the rear entryway is a wooden deck with a picnic closet and utility closet. The rear deck is where the gas grill and some lounge chairs are located. Just off the rear parking area is a regulation horseshoe court. The rear deck is also a nicely protected area if the wind picks up .
We are both retired and spend as much time as possible here in Maine. Our family has been coming here since 1960 when the land was purchased. We enjoy the outdoors and the accessibility to golf, hiking, biking, and boating. These features have made Quarry Point a magnet for our children's and grandchildren's August vacations.
Tad purchased this house in 2007
After we retired in 2005 we decided to rennovate and expand the old camp that had been located here.Just this past year we renovated the semi attached cabin to provide an expanded deck and sitting area.
After all those years we knew we wanted to spend more time here and that our children and grandchildren would enjoy it.
Beautiful setting; privacy, plenty of places to lounge: on the 'point' sit in the Adirondack chairs enjoy your morning coffee with a mountain sunrise, or in the evening enjoy the wonderful Maine sunsets. At night the horizon over Somes Sound provides a great venue for star gazing.
This is a great deal in a great location. Private, beautiful house with tons of shoreline to enjoy and nearby attractions to keep you busy for weeks. Owners were great to work with and house was exactly as described. Can't wait to go back!
