Minong House Rental Photos and Description

House, 4 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 9)

Welcome to our four bedroom home on Lake Nancy in Minong, Wisconsin. Lake Nancy is a gorgeous 772 acre lake well known for its clean, clear water and great fishing. The home is elevated about 25' above a fantastic 100' sand beach. Our 400 foot private wooded drive winds through oak, birch, and pine trees and ends just a short distance from the back door of our 2,250 square foot 4 season 'home away from home'.

The lake offers outstanding swimming! The slope on both the beach and out into the water is VERY gradual with no drop off. This makes it great for kids, water games, and lounging around on a hot summer day. Enjoy your morning coffee out on the bench at the end of the 60' long dock.

We also have an 18' Bayliner 180 open bow boat with a 90HP outboard motor available for rent (boat is extra and not included in weekly rental). This boat is great for water skiing and tubing, and is parked on its lift next to the dock, so all you have to do is lower it into the water, start it up, and take off!

On the beach near the A-frame bench swing is the fire pit. It's great for brats, smore's, staring into after dark... whatever you like. The night sky is so dark you can see the Milky Way - it's a good thing we put in motion sensing lights to help you find your way back inside!

Lake Nancy is a clean, clear lake offering large mouth bass, walleye, northern, muskie, crappie and pan fish. Two kayaks and a rowboat are provided for fishing or exploring, and the lake has a public ramp for launching your trailered boat. 100' SW of the end of the dock is a crappie hot-spot - be sure to check it out. Blue gills can be caught with just about anything from the dock - a great way to introduce kids to fishing!

The layout of the home is that it is built into the side of the hill, so you walk in from the driveway on the upper level. The home has 4 bedrooms with one queen bed, 1 double bed, 1 bunk bed, and one twin bed. There is also one double sized futon, and two cots. (Both the futon and cots are actually quite comfortable.)

On the upper level are the kitchen, dining area, living room, 2 bedrooms, and a full bath with tub. There is also a 3 season porch, and perhaps best of all is a 40' elevated deck overlooking the lake and giving views of spectacular sun sets.

Downstairs is the family room, 2 bedrooms, a 3/4 bath (shower), and the laundry area, which also contains the children's size air hockey/pool table (it flips over) and dart board.

The kitchen is fully furnished (we like to cook) and is part of a large open area that includes the dining and living areas. The over and stove are gas, and there is of course a refrigerator/freezer, microwave, dishwasher, and coffee maker. We also have two barbecue grills - one charcoal, and one gas. Like I said, we like to cook!

There are ceiling fans which are perfect most of the time for keeping things natural, but cool.

We are only 2 miles from Black Bear Golf course, an 18 hole, par 72, public course. There are many other golf courses within easy driving distance. You may also enjoy hiking or canoeing/tubing on 2 nearby rivers (Totagatic and Namekagon - the latter being an excellent trout river). Day trips to Hayward, Spooner, Duluth and the Apostle Islands are common diversions.

The birding is outstanding, with loons and bald eagles guaranteed. You're sure to see deer and if you're a birder we have kingfishers, whippoorwills, various warblers, vireos, and flycatchers, pileated and red bellied woodpeckers, and occasionally a scarlet tanager and eastern towhee may be seen.

About Ed

There are five of us - Mom, Dad, 12 year old boy, 10 year old girl, and Grandma!

Ed purchased this house in 2005

Why Ed chose Northern Wisconsin

It's only two hours from our home in the Twin Cities. We love the fact that it is so peaceful and quiet - we're definitely in the country. But we also like having all the amenities we need only 7 miles away in the town of Minong.

What makes this house unique

We love the gorgeous sand beach where our children can play. The lake is large and very clean. We own, and will rent to you, our 18' open bow Bayliner 180 with a 90HP motor. Great for tubing, water skiing, and touring around the large and intricate lake - there are over 10 miles of shoreline!

We are on the east side of the lake, looking west out across the lake. This lets us enjoy beautiful sunsets and view the weather move toward us (it usually moves generally west to east in this latitutde). When we're lucky we get a great view of an approaching thunderstorm, complete with towering cumulonimubus clouds blocking out the sun, lightning advancing toward us (it's actually safer this way - we're never surprised because we can see it so far off), and the rain marching swiftly from the far side of the lake across to our side. Great stuff!

Beautiful Cabin on a beautiful Lake!!

  • 5 of 5

Our family stayed at this rental in June of 2015 and had a wonderful time! Not only is the property beautiful, but the owners were great to work with. Any questions we had prior to renting were responded to promptly and with care. This was a great property for our children as there is a beautiful sand beach, along with a nice dock that was great for catching panfish with the kids. Needless to say we had a blast! Fishing for bluegill was excellent, and swimming/ spending time in the spacious cabin was a plus! Many thanks for the wonderful accommodations at your beautiful lake rental!

Recommend taking property walk-through with owner

  • 1 of 5

We had an unfortunate experience after we stayed at this property. The owner insisted that we damaged 5 of 6 dining room chairs, with most of the chairs requiring reupholstering. We had several congenial conversations with the owner explaining that we could not have caused the type of damage he accused us of (he even admitted that he thought it unlikely that we could have caused that damage), involving “adult-sized” water stains to the chairs. When we were there, we did not notice whether the chairs were stained or not. The chairs themselves were unremarkable to begin with, so we did not look closely at them. In fact the furniture in this property overall is pretty average (or below average) quality and outdated. It perplexes us that outdated furniture in a cabin would require re-upholstering. It further perplexes us to be accused of this damage since we treated the property with great respect. We never sat on the chairs with wet bathing suits. We believe that the owner did not carefully inspect the chairs before we were there, and that the water stains occurred prior to our visit. Needless to say, the owner (even while admitting that it was unlikely that we could cause the damage) chose to keep our entire security deposit, and there really is no recourse for us.

If you want to stay at this property, I would recommend going on a walk-through with the owner so you know what his expectations are. You may want to look closely at every piece of furniture, possibly even take pictures, to make sure that you do not get falsely accused of damage after you leave. Also, you should be aware that the back deck off of the living room (on the second story from the lower walk-out) has wide vertical railing slats, so you need to be vigilant with your young children. I wish I could give this property a better review, but I want other potential renters to realize that this type of issue could happen to them.

Owner's Response: It is terribly unfortunate, but this party really is not being truthful in their review. We clean and inspect our home before and after every visitor. Not only did they ruin the dining room chairs, which will cost us over $1,000 to refurbish, they also somehow managed to cover every single window inside the house with an oily residue. One cannot help but wonder just what they were doing! It is very sad for us to see what happened, and it distresses us to be forced to respond in this way. We love our second home and take great care of it. We really never dreamed anyone would cause such damage. And they seemed to be such a nice family. But we do follow a check list and inspect all the furniture before and after each arrival, so we do know without any doubt it was they who ruined the chairs. If you look at our other reviews, you will see every one is a 5 star rating. In fact, the very first review we received was posted by this very same party. It was a wonderful review and as it was unsolicited, it certainly shows how much they enjoyed the home, beach, and area. It’s just a shame they didn’t show the same respect and appreciation for it on their second visit.

Perfect Family Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this cabin in late July with our four small children. The kids loved jumping off the long dock and swimming out to the raft. The sandy beach was great and there were plenty of sand toys at the cabin. The kids took the kayaks out for a spin on the lake and were surprised by a loon a few times. The duck boat was great for fishing. We caught enough fish for a fish fry one night. On rainy days they have a small pool table, lots of board games, and Wii to help entertain the kids when they can't get outside. The sunsets off the deck are beautiful.

The option to rent the ski boat was an added bonus. It was so much easier than renting from somewhere. It came with a great tube, kids skis, and adult skis.

The cabin has everything you need for cooking and grilling. The beds were great and the cabin is big enough that all of the kids had their own space. We highly recommend this for families with children.

Wonderful place on a beautiful lake!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this cabin for a week in early June and had a blast! The space was more than accommodating for families with young children. The beach/swimming area is beautiful and the view from the deck is gorgeous. We used the kayaks, and also fished from the dock (caught nice bluegill throughout the week). We highly recommend this property for any families with young children!

Very Satisfied

  • 5 of 5

We rented this cabin for ten days in early September, 2012, and can say without reservation that it was great. My grandson loved the beach, the water was super clean, and the entire lake was a quiet place to relax with our family. Families will love it; young people looking for action and parties will be disappointed. The cabin itself was excellent. The beds were very comfortable, furniture was clean and modern, and the bathrooms were entirely satisfactory for everyone. The water pressure on the second floor was pretty low, but my daughter said the first-floor shower was perfectly acceptable. I liked that the kitchen is well stocked and everything one could want is there and ready to use. I really did feel I was staying in someone's home, which I guess is the point of VRBO. Loons, deer in the yard, eagles in the trees next to the house, and the sound of wolves (not sure about that one/maybe coyotes) could be heard every night. You come to a place like this one and you remember that the night sky truly is an amazing light show.

Wonderful stay on beautiful property-- Perfect for families!

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed at this beautiful property on Lake Nancy with our four small children (ages 2 to 8 years). Everything we needed or wanted was at our fingertips. The house was very comfortable. The lake was lovely and had a nice sandy bottom. We appreciated the long dock (longer than most of the docks in the area), from which we could jump off of for swimming and fish from (fishing poles provided!). There were two kayaks and a duck boat, as well as several water toys (noodles, etc.) for our kids to enjoy. We enjoyed campfires at the fire pit on the beach and also sitting out and looking at the water from any of the numerous adirondack chairs (on the beach and deck) and the very comfortable bench swing (on the beach). Our kids especially enjoyed the tire swing on the beach.

The house was well equipped with just about everything imaginable, including plenty of space and comfortable beds, a washer and dryer, numerous lazy boy recliners for reading and enjoying the gorgeous view, and two TVs (one with a VCR and the other with a DVD player and Play Station). We saw lots of wildlife, including eagles and loons and deer. We were pleasantly surprised by several hummingbirds frequenting the feeders on the deck. It was lots of fun for us to sit on the deck and have hummingbirds come within several feet of us!

The trip into town (Minong) was easy and quick. We went into town almost daily to pick up groceries, a newspaper, go for ice cream or dinner, or to go to church. Day trips to Hayward and Spooner were only a short distance away (about 30 minutes each way), and we had a great time inner tubing down the Namekagon River.

Overall, I highly recommend this spacious and comfortable vacation home for a relaxing getaway in beautiful northwestern Wisconsin!
