This house and it's location are absolutely beautiful. The sunrises are a great start to the day !
It was a pleasure to stay and deal with the Baker family. This house has everything you need for a wonderful vacation - plenty of room for all to spread out - or for all to come together at the table or on the deck/patio. The river is beautiful - watch boats go by, lobster fisherman do their work - or take a boat or kayak ride. There are plenty of places in the area to explore, shop, and/or dine. Everyone in our family enjoyed this place very much - we highly recommend it to all !
Comfortable home away from home
Home is situated in a very quiet Swampscot River- side location. Expansive front lawn with a pond filled with bull frogs. Sloping back lawn down to the water. We had to get used to the very squeaky dock - needs some WD-40. Great deck with ample seating to watch the sunrise and spot seals lounging on Upper Mark Island. Home is well-supplied with everything you might need; however, some of the tools, like the knives, could use some updating, and the large living area could use more lamps for reading at night. Aside from the huge master bedroom, the other bedrooms are downstairs and seem slightly dark. This home could accommodate many people comfortably with lots of inside and outside tables for dining. We would visit again!
Terrific house on the water with all the amenities
From the first glance at the house to the last look back as we were leaving, the house was special. The layout of the house was perfect - large living room, large kitchen (with all the amenities you could think of) - comfortable beds/bedrooms, and bathrooms for everybody. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here - capped off each night with a lobster feast from the North End Lobster Coop. We all had a very nice week staying at this house and hope to be back again !
Incredible family reunion in Maine
Our goal was to have our kids and grandkids under one roof for more than one meal. We spent a week at Doris's house. At the end our kids and grandkids said it was the perfect vacation. They also said the house was perfect! We loved the location and the layout of the house. The dock was great as we rented a boat for the week to explore around all the nearby islands, and go into Boothbay Harbor. The house has everything you could want. We boiled lobsters on three nights, and had s'mores nearly every night.
The location was incredibly beautiful and peaceful. I did not want to leave at the end of our week. It was quite a change for us being from Southern California and Manhattan. Doris was great to work with in responding to questions. The house had everything a person needs to cook and serve meals for large families.
I think the only negative was the size of the lobster pot. We could only get seven lobsters in it, but we were cooking up to eleven lobsters for dinner. However, since it only takes about 12 minutes to boil a batch, this was not a big deal.
I'm hoping I can convince the family to return. We love seeing new places, but we also really enjoy great places like this house.
A slice of heaven!
We recently had the pleasure of renting this beautiful house and can't say enough great things about it. We were a group of ten people ranging in age from 3-63. The house is big enough to all come together as a group or to go in a corner by yourself and relax. HUGE plus!
I know some people in previous reviews found that the location of the house to the nearest town (approximately 20 mins) was troublesome. That was definitely not the case for us. So incredibly peaceful...it was probably the best night's sleep that anyone has had in a very long time.
The house is well stocked and I mean WELL stocked. We have NEVER stayed in a house that had this many amenities. We especially liked the fact that there was a separate beverage station so that all the drinks (like soda, water, etc) could be put in the small refrigerator and not take up valuable space in the kitchen refrigerator. There was every kind of kitchen utensil, more than enough dishes and cups for everyone, pots and pans galore, electric griddle, and TONS of silverware. There were also a variety of platters and other serving dishes in the house. Super important with such a big group. Things like dish soap, dishwasher tabs, garbage bags, etc were all there for us to use. In house laundry was wonderful and there were laundry products there for us to use. I think the ONLY thing missing were laundry baskets but if that's the ONLY thing missing then we can totally deal with it.
Bedrooms were of great size with lots of extra bedding included (sheets, blankets, pillows, etc). Loved the fact that were are room darkening shades in the bedrooms so that the little one could sleep a little later than the 530am sunrise and could take a nap during the day. We also loved the fact that we didn't have to bring our own bath towels. Lots of towels are provided.
The views were spectacular. We spent so much time outside at the house....bird watching, looking for seals, watching the lobstermen empty there traps etc. Nice that a grill is provided too. I think the only thing we didn't get to was making s'mores on the firepit.
We did several daytrips to Boothbay Harbor, Wiscasset, Popham Beach, Pemaquid etc. Dinner at the Squire Tarbox Inn is a must (2 miles from the house). We would not hesitate to recommend this house to friends and family - it is well taken care of, very clean and comfortable and Doris was a DELIGHT to work with. We WILL be back next year!!!
Perfect for all ages
Our extended family of five adults and five kids spent a great week in this house, enjoying the beautiful water views and the fine amenities. We took day trips to Boothbay and to Reid State Park, kayaked off the dock, swam in the little cove on Kehail Point, and enjoyed dinners cooked at home in the beautiful, well-appointed kitchen, and at restaurants in Georgetown and Boothbay. The downstairs area was a great space for the five kids with plenty of sleeping room and a full bathroom (and fast wifi, much appreciated by the teens). The upstairs rooms were spacious and comfortable, and even with multiple showers, loads of laundry, and the dishwasher, we never once ran out of hot water. Thanks for sharing your beautiful home with us.
This property is off Route 144 - 10.5 miles from US Route 1 in Wiscasset. Westport Island is a great location to get away from it all but only 20-60 minutes away from historical downtown Bath, the City of Ships, Brunswick Naval Air Station, Boothbay Harbor where you can go whale watching, deep sea fishing, great restaurants, sightseeing cruises, etc. Many forts and beaches in the area, Fort Popham/Popham Beach, Fort Pemaquid/Pemaquid Beach, Fort Edgecomb, and Reid State Park. If you like antiquing, this mid-coast area has 100+ shops in all the quaint villages within an hour drive. Golf: Bath and Boothbay Country Clubs both within 1 hour commute
