A few of the hidden gems are bird watching and the beach at Kippopeke State park, a unique winery tour by kayak, and taking an automobile excursion with visits to the many shops of Eastern shore artist, craftsmen and antique dealers. Depending on the time of the year, the Eastern shore offers local festivals, craft fairs and events that share the local history and flavor. The world famous pony penning in Chincoteague is in late July.
Sydney is a semi-retired Real Estate agent. She and her husband live in Virginia Beach and Sydney's beloved Toy Poodles, Sophie and Sammy. They bought the Lakefront House in Bay Creek to get away from the city life and enjoy the Eastern Shore lifestyle. They would eventually love to retire and make this home their full time residence.
If you fall in love with the Eastern Shore as much as we have and want to buy your own Eastern Shore retreat, please consider Sydney for your real estate needs.

Bay Creek is one of the most beautiful communities in southeast Virginia with two championship golf courses, the private community beach, and lush landscaped grounds. The community is linked with wonderful bike trails and it is a short distance to the Cape Charles business community.
One of the nicest features of the property is the lake outside our back door. We enjoy the peace and tranquility of the lake and the large expanse of nature from the yard.
I stayed here the first part of the week with friends (in our 30s) then had my family (with parents in their 60s) for the second half of the week. It was a good time for both groups!
The house was in great condition and it was very open and spacious. It is in a private community with a pool, private beach, and two golf courses. While I wasn't too impressed with the town of Cape Charles, I was glad to have the amenities in the community. I probably wouldn't return to Cape Charles because I felt like I saw everything there was to see in a week.
My friends and I enjoyed buying fresh oysters & clams from the local market and also grilling out back. The private beach was very secluded and only had two families scattered throughout the whole beach! We had a great time. We also found the pool and went for a swim one of the days.
My parents had a great time and they couldn't stop raving about the gorgeous golf course. Bay Creek is somewhat pricy but they said it was worth the money.
Overall, the house is in a great location (in a gated community) with lots of amenities. I wasn't too impressed with the town and its shops but found other ways to relax and entertain ourselves. The owner is very accommodating and even brought us fresh vegetables from her garden to grill! The house was very clean and we left it as we found it.
The Lakefront Home in Baycreek was truly a pleasure to stay in. Often vacation home furnishings are run down, worn out hand me downs. Not here!!! The beds at the Lakefront home were all extremely comfortable and a pleasant surprise. The family room was large with many comfortable options to read, watch TV, check the computer, or just look out the window at the beautiful panoramic view of the lake. The loft at the top of the stairs offered the kids a space of their own. The dining table was large and convenient for our large group. The kitchen had everything we needed (garlic press, oyster knife, stocked spice cabinet!!!) and dining in was a positive experience, especially since I couldnt resist stopping at the roadside stands of fresh seafood and produce offered on the Eastern Shore. I really appreciated having quality kitchenware and real crystal wine glasses which I rarely (if ever before?) experienced in a weekly rental. Grilling dinner and sipping a cold beverage while the family enjoyed themsevles at the large outside table overlooking the lake was a great experience.
The abundance of daytrip options have me wanting to come back again next year since we couldnt fit in all that we wanted to do. The private Bay Creek beach on the Chesapeake Bay was wonderful - our small childen can comfortably wade in the calm shallow waters, the sunsets were incredible and a pefect spot to enjoy the fruits of the local winery. We even have a jar full of seaglass found along the waters edge to remind us of the history and legacy of the Chesapeake Bay. The art and antique shops along 13 and in the small towns were interesting, well priced, and highlighted the waterman heritage of the eastern shore. The day trip to Chincoteague was well worth it; the shops, food, the beaches at Assateague National Seashore and seeing my kids faces when we spotted the herd of wild horses playing in the marsh was priceless.
For a unique vacation that shares the natural environment, the history of our nations watermen, the beaches and a world class golf resort, I highly recommend Cape Charles and the Virginia Eastern Shore. For a comfortable home and a tremendous good value, the lakefront home at Bay Creek is by far the best choice.
We have been to Cape Charles several times and have always enjoyed our stay. This vacation was particularly nice because we had access to a pool, tennis courts, and golfing. We drove the short distance to the public beach, shops, and restaurants every day, often more than once a day. We could walk to the pool but usually drove . . . and a bit past the pool was a beautiful beach where we could enjoy a walk at sunset. The house was spacious and comfortable. Most importantly, Coco, our dog, could come with us on vacation this time. Our children loved that!
This was a delightful well maintained property in a gated community. The Lounge TV was a bit temperamental. One king size bed is a water bed. The nearby golf course and pool were excellent. However, there was no shade at the pool as all the umbrellas were broken and had not been replaced. There is no resort hotel/restaurant as such yet. Cape Charles, despite the accolades in the tourist brochures appears run down and some places were closed down. There were not many local decent restaurants apart from the Acqua club that is part of the Bay Creek Marina complex. We felt that there was not much to do around the area ( we were two adults and a teenage daughter - 16) and we had thought that there would be numerous boat/kayak rentals but all we could find was one associated with a winery tour, or day/half day guided tours. We thought that there might be horse riding but could not find any. Clearly, there is much for wild life fans, but the local brochures give a false impression as to what there might be say in the small village of Onancok. We travelled up and down Route 13 and down side roads but found very little of interest. After four days we felt we had exhausted the area.
Cape Charles is a wonderful walking/biking community with a free fishing pier, boardwalk, beach, beautiful marina, harbor, town park located in the center of town, , minature putt putt course, enjoy an ice cream float at Rayfiels or Brown Dog Ice Cream to cap off your day of fun and adventure.
