Annie and John Cooksey met at church camp and 1985 and fell in love a year later. We have been married for 18 years. John is a video producer and owner of EliteVideo dot com a video training company, Annie homeschools but years back she was 'Sparkle the letter clown' for the PBS series 'The Letter People' We moved from Connecticut in 1991 for the nicer climate, fresh air, and friendly people.
John Cooksey purchased this house in 2008
We have had success with our first vacation rental here in town and we were looking along time for a secluded private house with a nice yard and plenty of parking that was also close to downtown.
When we found this house bordering on the National park with trails 200 feet away and no houses on either side of it, we knew this would be the one.
Quiet and peaceful. Secluded. Hiking and the pool. Nice level yard. Very Close to the historic downtown. 1 mile from Park Island Market and Park Ave Bistro. No charge for mountain bikes (s) National Park Trails across the street. Very quiet. Fenced back Yard. Privacy. No street lights, and almost no traffic, give you that camping feeling of yesteryear.
Loved staying here and Mr. John was the best! So much to do at the house we never went any where else! Nice house beautiful view, quiet and peaceful. Close to town. We will definitely be a regular vistors from now on!
The place is great. We had a wonderful time. The kids had plenty of activities to keep them entertained. I DO NOT recommend letting your kids ride their bikes on the road in front of the house. The road only has a few cars a day on it. But most of the ones we did see go through we're driving to fast for my comfort of letting kids ride there. We would definitely stay here again.
My husband and our little dog stayed at this property over the 4th of July weekend 2016. We had the best time! Driving to the property was easy because the GPS took us straight there. You drive though neighborhoods and think this must not be correct but once you turn on to the street of the property, the canopy of the trees engulfs you and you immediately feel like you are in the middle of a forest, miles from anyone. In fact, there are neighbors around you but they are not right up against the property as it is surrounded by woods so you would never know they are there.
The owner met us there and went over everything with us and shared places to eat, explore and even some history of the area. John was so helpful and was available at a moment's notice. He responded quickly and was nearby if needed, but never intruded or broke up our privacy. Only there if needed.
The parking is great because it is an attached car port that is lighted so you can rest in peace knowing your vehicle is safe. The street that the property is on has very little traffic on it and it would be a safe street to let your kids ride their bikes on; traffic is slow when it does come by, which is seldom.
The amenities all worked amazingly well: hot tub, saltwater pool, indoor jacuzzi, appliances, wifi, television reception, hot water, BBQ grill, outdoor games and activities, etc. Anything and everything we utilized worked like a charm and while the home is a little on the older side, it has been meticulously maintained and has a great flow to it. It would be perfect for a family or two to three couples.
The back yard is fenced in and has thick St. Augustine grass with no stickers (burrs) or fire ants so go ahead and run around barefoot! Lots of things to do in the yard and there is even a BB hoop with ball in front driveway to enjoy. Across the street are walking trails that were maintained, although muddy when we went.
Drive to downtown Hot Springs about 5 minutes or less away from property. We drove there and just walked around the bathhouses; there is a great walking area behind the bathhouses that traverses the entire area and is paved, with little meandering hiking trails dispersed around the paved area.
Great location, great property, wonderful amenities. This is a place that we will definitely return to next time we need to just S-L-O-W down.
This property was a great place for our family members to meet and spend time together. The house and yard are spacious with much to do, close to town, yet quiet and peaceful with a country feel.
The backyard has sports equipment and games for all ages, the grandkids enjoyed the giant chess board and volleyball.... and the pool and hot tub made it even better!
John was most helpful making sure we had what we needed for our stay, and with tips about the area. He even came out to take a group family pic for us with his camera while we were together there!
We had a great stay. It is located close to down town Hot Springs but it is in a nice quiet place. The pool and hot tub were great to relax in. I highly recommend this place to stay.
We were in Hot Springs for the horse races with another couple the house has way more to offer than we needed but we all discussed how great it would have been when our children were younger.
In the backyard they have a huge chess/checker board, volleyball, tether ball, horse shoes and oh yes putt putt it is crazy cool for families. We did not use the pool or hot tub due to weather but they looked nice.
The home itself is very nice with everything you need and conveniently located just outside of downtown but feels like the middle of the forest.
Other Activities: Mini Golf, horse shoes teather ball, , Wildlife Viewing, Hiking, Local shows less than 1 1/2 miles from Historic downtown, Pool, Amusement park. Very close to all downtown shopping , coffee shops , bars etc.
