A private waterfront retreat with spectacular views of beautiful Owasco Lake is what our Poplar Cove home is all about. It has all the privacy you need with over 100 feet of water frontage and two acres of level grassy lawn, yet is conveniently located only one mile from the city of Auburn. This spacious home boasts a remarkable open floor plan with all brand new large picture windows and over-sized patio doors that provide absolutely breathtaking panoramic views of the shimmering bright blue waters. The living space has wood laminate flooring, freshly painted walls, and tasteful modern furniture and decor.
Outdoors we have an extremely large deck with a gas grill, a table that seats 6, another table that seats 2, and plenty of lounge furniture for your gatherings. There is also a dock to fish from or dock a boat. Go ahead and bring your own boat or rent one from a local marina and dock it here at the house. We do have two kayaks that you are free to use. The shoreline has a seawall that is about four feet high and the water is usually around two feet high at the edge. The water level gradually goes out to about four feet deep at the end of the dock. There is a rather large sandbar you can kayak out to for some play in the sandy water approximately 150 yards to the northeast. Most areas of Owasco Lake have rocky bottoms. Everyone loves our large grassy lawn for kickball, soccer, volleyball, flying a kite or just plain old relaxing by the water.
We are school teachers in the local area and live close by.
Christine Izzo purchased this house in 2005
Gorgeous views and lots of lawn!!
Large lot with breathtaking views of the lake.
I want to preface this by saying that I am used to being near the water as I live a mile away from the St Clair River & a couple of miles from Lake Huron so I understand that living near the water means spiders......but I also know if property owners take care of their property & have an exterminator come on a regular basis the spiders can be controlled. Totally not the case with this property....complaints are as follows....
1. SPIDERS - big ones, small ones inside & outside the house. Coming back after dark was like walking a gauntlet full of spiders, the goal was to make it inside without getting one on you. My friend was not so lucky one night & had one the size of a half dollar on her neck.
2. The place was filthy!!! Spider webs everywhere, mold & mildew in both showers & there was DRIED BLOOD on the comforter on the upstairs bed.
3. The dock was in serious disrepair. Most boards were soft & we personally were not comfortable having more than one person at a time on the dock.
4. Definitely not a 3 bedroom - it's 2 bedrooms with a sitting area outside of the upstairs bedroom with a pullout sofa.
5. Advertised fans in every room, there were a couple of disgustingly dirty table top fans & one equally dirty fan on a stand. Also there was a filthy box fan that didn't work.
6. Couldn't keep all the windows open due to gaps letting in flys, nats & bees.
7. Sliding screen door was a joke, it kept coming off the tracks - we finally contacted the property owners & the husband came the next day to "fix" it but it didn't seal properly so the bugs got in anyway.
8. Furniture was horribly uncomfortable. We did figure out near the end of our stay that the loveseat cushions were not put back correctly from a previous visitor so that ended up be a tad better than the sofa.
9. The beds are horrible, you can feel & hear the springs with every movement. It's obvious the property owners don't sleep here.
10. Just an overall rip off, this house was not worth the price & didn't look as nice in person as it did in the pictures.
A few summers ago we rented a beautiful house on Lake Michigan for half the price that was virtually spider free & clean. The first night in this house we slept with the lights on & seriously considered contacting the owners to request a refund........
I grew up on Owasco Lake and was so looking forward to a week there and I was not disappointed!
The house was comfortable, the kitchen fully stocked with everything you need, plenty of towels, blankets etc. The large back deck was perfect for entertaining. We rented a pontoon boat for the week and my husband was out every morning fishing. The lake is very weedy right now but that did not stop us from kayaking. We went to the sand spit and swam there. Our evenings were completed with a fire in the fire pit.
The location is very convenient to Auburn & Moravia and shopping!
I would recommend this house and we are thinking about going back next summer
My family and I spent a fun filled week here. The cottage was well maintained. Auburn, Skaneateles, and Moravia are all easily accessible within 10-20 min from the cottage. Syracuse is only 40 min away and features an excellent mall. Owasco marine is only 5 min away where you can rent fishing boats and pontoons at very reasonable rates and they put them in the water for you which makes it much more convenient. The lake here is very weedy but if that doesn't bother you it is good for swimming. It is an older home so there are a few kinks here and there but that is to be expected. Overall we had a very good experience here.
We arrived at this home with high expectations. The sliders out to the front, the deck and the front yard leading to the dock/water were very nice. Unfortunately, the rest of the house did not meet our expectations. To the owner's credit, when we let her know our feelings about the cleanliness of the house, she offered to come and make it right, but on the Thursday of our week stay, my friend had a mouse run up the front of her and that sort of was the end of it for us. At that point we did notice mouse droppings in some of the cabinets. The property is not well maintained, but if aesthetics don't bother you, then that is not an issue. The couch/sleeper sofas in the living room are in pretty bad shape, but if you are not looking for comfort when sleeping, that is also not an issue. There is a bedroom upstairs with a very tiny bathroom and another bedroom/master downstairs with an attached bathroom, but unless you don't care about disturbing the person(s) sleeping in that room, the bathroom is only accessible when everyone is up for the day.
The family of a Cornell graduate stayed at this loction Memorial Day week to attend graduation ceremonies (Saturday and Sunday). Those that stayed at the cottage were 3 Uncles and Aunts, four cousins (age 1 to 13) and grandpa. Total 11; 3 camped out in a tent near the deck. The family of the graduate, stayed in Ithaca but came to the cottage cookouts following the Saturday and Ceremonies.
The 40 minute commute to Ithaca was pleasant as we entered the campus from the north with no hassel or delays, avoiding the heavy and restricted campus traffic.
The facilities at the cottage were as advertized: plenty of bedding and towels, kitchen well stocked with appliances in good working order, cooking, tools and eqiipment, and serving dishes and plates,
Access to supplies were convient in Auburn.
No plumbing problems and new sliding doors worked great. The view and activity of the lake were a treat.
This was a pleasant way for the family to gather for this occasion. We will do it again sometime.
The house was spacious and had mostly everything we needed to have a comfortable weekend.
The kitchen came fully stocked with equipment, glasses, dishware, etc. Furniture was comfortable and the house was also stocked with many blankets, sheets, and towels.
My group and I had a great time grilling, kayaking, and using the campfire.
We had an issue with logging for than four people at a time onto the wireless internet, and the door to the back of the house was really hard to open.
I definitely recommend this house to people looking for a nice getaway at a value.
The Finger Lakes region is well known for its wineries, waterfalls, rolling hills and beauty. There are plenty of parks and sites to visit within a few miles, along with the Merry Go Round Theater (live Broadway caliber performances), museums, restaurants and shopping. The quaint historic village of Skaneateles is only five miles to the east and has wonderful shops, restaurants, and scenic beauty. An abundance of golf courses are within a few miles of the home as well. Owasco Lake is a very clean lake for swimming and recreation. Fishing is excellent for walleye, trout, bass, perch, and northern pike.
Check, cash, money order, etc.
