About the property

1+ bedroom, 1 full bathroom, fully equipped kitchen, mountain views

What a great place to escape from it all! Sleep in one of our very own hand-hewn log cabins situated on 232 acres of land. Walk into a charming country kitchen, fully equipped with everything you need to make a romantic dinner or just relax in the cozy living area with your favorite book by the wood-burning stove.

Early summer evenings are best enjoyed while rocking on the covered porch with a glass of cool lemonade watching the wind rustle through the leaves as deer graze nearby.

If you are the more adventurous type; enjoy a stroll down to the pond and ride on the paddle boat perhaps catching a glimpse of the wild geese and Mallards who visit there, or hike one of our many, beautiful woodland trails. Picnics are 'a must' with the outdoor grills and picnic tables we provide.

The property is gorgeous. Tucked away in a wooded area - we got there as it was snowing - PERFECT!

  • 5 of 5

When we arrived, we talked to Mary and she was extremely nice and welcoming. The cottage was prestine with everything you would need for cooking/baking and showers. There were also extra linens on top of the furnished beds. There were clear instructions on how to use the wood burner as well as a binder with detailed information about local restaurants and tourist areas. The cottage was cozy and gave the quintessential experience of staying in a cabin in the woods.

Perfect Christmas Get Away

  • 5 of 5

Since our kids were celebrating Christmas down South and on the West Coast, my wife suggested that we find a place to just get away by ourselves. Our desired destination was Vermont, and so we hunted through HomeAway and found an idyllic cabin in Brookfield VT. Not a resort area, mind you, but the perfect spot to get away and enjoy what nature has to offer. After a long 6 hour trek from NJ in the rain, we arrived in Randolph as the rain turned to snow, topped off our supplies at an ample supermarket and headed to Brookfield. We arrived after dark and it was snowing quite heavily. Speaking with Mary Comerford by phone she offered to help us reach the cabin if our vehicle couldn't make it; as the cabin was up on a hill. Fortunately, we made it on our own.

The cabin was very much a surprise to us. It was decorated in an Native American motif, with many interesting and artful pieces of Indian artifacts and paintings. The queen bed was firm, but not too firm and the sheets were very comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked with all cooking utensils, pots and pans and sundry goods needed. The cabin had a loft that was also nicely decorated in the Native American style which we did not use. The cabin was equipped with a very functional wood burning stove (with plenty of wood) along with a backup heating system that work very well.

Because we got about 7 inches of new snow on Christmas Eve to go along with the couple of feet already on the ground, we ventured out on walks, but for the most part, stayed inside with the wood burning stove and enjoyed each others company. It was a wonderful experience, well worth the money and we intend to return during the late Spring or early Summer.

FOUR WHEEL DRIVE NEEDED

  • 4 of 5

Everything about our stay was great, except the one small detail that was not mentioned ahead of time...you need a four wheel drive vehicle to access these cabins in the winter. They are off of a 3+ mile hilly dirt road entrance, with a final large downhill followed by an immediate large uphill on the actual property. Our minivan could not adequately handle these hills in the snow. We got stuck 3 times just getting in and then had to forego our first day of reservations while we waited for the roads to be plowed and sanded. I am reasonable and realize this is Vermont...in the winter. However, every other place we visited was off the main paved roads which were plowed and salted to allow easy access with the van.

In the end, we were able to get out and enjoy our vacation, but had we known the entrance path ahead of time we would have planned differently. Coming home each night not knowing if we'd make it up the hills was a scary thought in the dark!

The cabins were wonderful. Stocked with everything needed! The loft bedroom was perfect for my children and the futon bed in the living room was very comfortable too! They gave us fresh towels daily. The kitchen was stocked with pots and pans to cook meals. And best of all, the heat worked flawlessly despite the temps being below zero our entire stay!

Charming cabins in a perfectly remote location

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our long weekend in the “Bear’s Den” cabin. It truly is a luxury log cabin with all the necessary amenities, and adorably bear themed. The location was perfect, the property is gorgeous and Mary is nothing short of gracious hostess, we felt right at home.

Great place to curl up to a fireplace and enjoy some quality time. Near lots of towns and activities and the owner is very kind and accommodating. Nice pond just down the way from the cabin. Will definitely return.
