Nice public beaches with parks, walking trails, lighthouse with pier, ferries to the Lake Erie Islands, and Cedar Point minutes away. Avoid Cedar Point traffic by traveling 'the back way'. Much to Do: Shop for antiques in Milan, visit the small shops of Vermilion, or go to the various malls on Rte. 250. Golf at Thunderbird or Keys. Walk Sheldons, Old Women's Creek, the pier, the Greenway or use the 2 mile long Huron Bicycle Path. Take the self-guided Huron Historic Home tour. Visit the McBride Arboretum. Learn about the lake by visiting maritime museums in Sandusky and Vermilion. Attend the Huron Playhouse, Ohio's oldest summer theater. Soak up the sun and swim at Lake Front Park or Nickel Plate Beach. Watch sunsets over the lake. Visit Put in Bay or Kelley's Island for the day. Travel to Marblehead and see the oldest lighthouse on the Great Lakes. Beradi's. Marconi's, I'5's , the Angry Bull, Amaroni's , and the Sand Bar serve good food at reasonable prices, as well as the Huron Pizza House and Jim's Pizza Box. Sawmill Creek Lodge offers fine dining and shopping. Venture into Cleveland just 45 minutes away and tour The Rock and Roll Museum and world class museums.

Wonderful stay!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I were very pleased with the cottage. It was clean, comfortable, and a perfect location. We loved the small town of Huron and how peaceful and quiet it was. The lake is super close to go to the beach and check out the lighthouse. You are very close to Sandusky and everything it offers. Mike and Judy were both very welcoming and friendly. We didn't get a chance to use the pool during our stay but it looked wonderful and Mike and Judy are so nice to let their guests use their own pool.

  • 5 of 5

Mike and Judy are very friendly and helpful. Very knowledgeable of the area and willing to share this information. The cottage is very clean, cozy and comfortable. A nice place to come back to after a day at Cedar Point or sightseeing. The location is close to many attractions and very convenient!!The pool at the rear of the property is a nice bonus, a great place to relax with your favorite beverage. I have told family and friends and we are definitely planning on a return visit next year!!i cannot say enough good things about this place and our wonderful hosts! Can't wait to return next year.

Welcome Guests

  • 5 of 5

My first time using a rental property rather than a hotel was an awesome experience. The cottage is comfortable, clean and stocked with more than you could ask for. The owners were more than welcoming. The wifi was not accessible in the cottage but was accessible outside. The owners did offer to let us use their computer if needed. True, there were a few spiders and earwigs, the owners mentioned this on the more than ample information provided, and also had bug spray stocked in the cottage. I had an unexpected trip to the local hospital and the owners were kind enough to check on my family and offer assistance in any way they could. The cottage was like a home away from home. It felt comfortable and safe. I would return to this property in a heartbeat and would clearly recommend it to all.

Unwelcome Guests

  • 1 of 5

My family and I have happily stayed at several VRBO properties, but, unfortunately, we just returned from an unpleasant stay at this rental property. We were willing to tolerate the proximity to a busy road, the earwigs and spiders, the lack of wireless internet, and being discouraged from using the stacking washer and dryer in our unit or the pool in the main house's back yard because it IS a "charming cottage" and a reasonably cleaned and maintained accommodation for the price.

But when the owners discovered they had double booked our last night with their next arrival, their reaction was rude and completely unacceptable. Instead of apologizing for their mistake and offering a solution, the owners insisted it was our fault (it wasn't, and I had our email correspondence to prove it) and even harassed us when we tried to check out the next morning, saying, "We have been more than patient with you". Excuse me? I'm sorry for choosing to stay at your rental property!

Bottom line: I would not stay here again as I did not feel welcome the first time, and I would recommend a friend look elsewhere.

Owner's Response: What a disaster! The couple who had booked the cottage for the following 5 days graciously accepted our offer to pay for a hotel room of their choosing and we made the reservations. It is hard to deal with a situation when the couple who wrote the negative review left 10- minutes later after a terse phone call to go to Cedar Point and returned in mid evening. The problem resulted over whether the couple had extended their stay for one day via the internet. As for the other negative comments, the washer and dryer handle only small loads so we offer to do loads of towels because who wants to spend your vacation doing laundry. There is WIFI and, yes, spiders and earwigs can be part of the lake experience from time to time. The weather was not good and no one used the pool. We do have repeat guests each year and have been told that several of our guests this year would like to return this fall or next summer. Please let us know, if you have any concerns after reading this review and we will be happy to answer them.

Great Place, Great Hosts, Great Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

My Husband, Daughter and Sister in Law stayed in this rental July 24-31. We had never stayed in Huron but have stayed in Sandusky, Marblehead and Catawba over the years. This place was beautifully remodeled and having the pool to relax in was a super bonus for all of us. The Ryans were wonderful to us and the cabin was well stocked with treats and lots of material of area attractions and history. We had a great time shopping at the Goodwill stores in the area as well as the Mall in Sandusky. For the Goodwill shoppers, Tuesday's and Thursday's are the day to shop as they have tag and manager specials on those days! This cabin is perfect for anyone wanting just a relaxing vacation as it has the comforts of home plus a pool to enjoy. It is also perfect for anyone wanting to see the sights and enjoy Cedar Point and all the other attractions of this beautiful Lake Erie Area.

Relaxing stay

  • 5 of 5

I am a return guest to this comfortable cottage and the quaint town of Huron. The visit begins with a warm welcome from the owners who undoubtedly invested a lot of thought, love and work into the remodeling of the structure. A photo documentation of their efforts is available at the cottage as well as a well-stocked binder of information about its history and activities in the area. It is well supplied, more than I anticipated, with dishes, glassware, utensils, cooking needs, towels and bed linens - all of good quality. I enjoyed being awakened by the chirping birds and the sunrise over Lake Erie. It is a quiet, wonderful place to relax at the end of the day. Mike and Judy are to be commended for their all their efforts and hospitality.
