Akiskinook Resort is the perfect all season vacation destination - a family resort featuring a sandy beach and a grassed picnic area. The lake is shallow within a large buoyed off area providing a safe area for the kids to swim and play; a marina with limited boat slips available for rent from the resort (one of the few places on the lake with boat slips available); updated indoor pool and new hot tub, exercise facilities, games room, squash court, tennis courts, basketball court/pickle ball court, newly installed kids playground and lots of green space for playing or relaxing. In the winter months the resort provides skating on the lake and cross-country skiing.
Our updated condominium has a spectacular view of the mountain ranges. Its southern exposure starts your day with sun on the deck to enjoy a leisurely breakfast. The beach is just a five-minute short stroll; and the town of Invermere is only five minutes by car where you can enjoy shopping and browsing at some of the unique stores. Do not forget to sample the delicious treats at the Main Street bakery.
For the golfer, the Lake Windermere valley offers some of the finest golf courses in B.C. from March through to October. Hikers can enjoy exploring the many hiking trails with spectacular scenery. In the winter months, skiers have the choice of the world-class Panorama Ski Resort (only 20 minutes away) and Fairmont Ski hill is very close by. The frozen lake also offers wonderful cross country skiing and ice skating.
Of course, you cannot go to Invermere without experiencing the year-round world famous Radium Hot Springs and the Fairmont Mineral Hot Springs, both only 20 minutes away. The Valley area also includes amusement parks for kids, as well as miniature golf, horseback riding and river rafting.
Prior to purchasing our condos at Akiskinook, we had rented units for several years. With a growing family of 4 children, we were looking for somewhere safe and fun to take the children and found those qualities in the Akiskinook Resort. Akiskinook is only a short scenic drive from Calgary (less than 3 hours). The resort offers many amenities to keep the children happy and safe. It is very friendly, and before the first day is done, the children have made new friends and are eager to get their vacation underway!
Sufficient size for small family
Basic supplies provided such as dishes, towels, etc.
Resort was clean and quiet
Early check in was a bonus
Great access to the Recreation Center which was kept clean
We were not advised that the water was not drinkable due to water advisory, however jugs of water were provided by owners
The barbecue ran out of propane in mid-use on day 1
High Chlorine content in the hot tub made it unusable and there was no one in the office to bring it to anyone's attention (this is a resort issue not an owner issue)
** Return of the damage deposit took 6 days - initial inquiries by email went unanswered for two days. We were understanding (verbally) that cleaners would be in on the last day which is an additional $75 fee, then the deposit would be refunded, however we had to wait until the owners arrived the following weekend before we received the deposit.
Overall this is a good option as a vacation rental. We can overlook most of the cons, however due to the issue with the deposit, we thought it was an unnecessary wait and will find another option next time as we really like the area.
