We fell in love with Chile. And we feel so comfortable and safe here! It's become our second home.. We'd be delighted to host you. Long term renters are welcome.
Judy purchased this apartment in 2009
We had a wonderful 4 nights in your very comfortable apartment. You have thought of everything from kitchen needs to bedding - this place is so amazing!
It felt like we were staying at a friend's house instead of a rental.
Thank you so much!
Recently we had a delightful experience staying at the “Las Violetas” apartment in the Providencia section of Santiago, Chile that I feel compelled to share. Firstly, Providencia is a wonderful, picturesque, tree lined neighborhood with tucked away delightful colorful café’s, interesting breakfasts nooks and is centrally located to nearby shopping and wider selections of a variety of restaurants; from delicious international and modern cuisine to vegetarian to great steaks, to local ceviche and all served with great wine and “pisco sours.” Bike riding paths as well are even located nearby.
The highlight however was returning to the apartment after a day’s activities, including vineyards, pre- Colombian and other museums, walking tours, and of course shopping – for antiques, artisanal handwork, “homeopathic” remedies and handicrafts, etc. Not only was the apartment beautifully and tastefully furnished and decorated with a master bedroom en suite and private bathroom for the other bedroom, but also included was a small, separate “guest” bathroom. The mixture of spectacular modern original paintings and artworks blended with actual pre-Colombian and native Mapuche Indian sculpture creates a wonderful feeling and environment to watch the sunset and enjoy a glass of wine and set the restful and romantic lighting. Against a backdrop of a wall of windows, uniting the inside with outside sky, sunset and rooftops was indeed special.
The kitchen was well equipped and enjoyed an openness with surrounding countertops – never isolating the cook from family and guests and is a great place for snacks, dinner and conversation. The original ceramic plates were a nice touch. There is a small office that can be converted to a bedroom, but makes a nice reading room.
I fully recommend “Las Violetas” for a wonderful getaway, a base for enjoying Santiago and its environs. It provided a comfortable and warm feeling with a touch of tasteful elegance. I recommend it highly.
We were so fortunate to make the acquaintance of Judy as she helped to resolve a difficult situation. The day before we were to arrive at another apartment, the person refunded our money and told us we could not stay there. Judy was immensely accommodating when we contacted her. She contacted her housekeeper and arranged to have the home cleaned for our arrival the following day. Upon arrival, everything was prepared and we were given assistance in understanding everything we would need to know about the apartment. A book of information pertaining to the apartment was available for our use. We couldn't have received greater care.
The location was in a safe neighborhood with a little café, called Bonaparte, only 3 blocks away. There are terrific bike lanes in the community and on Sundays until 2:00, the streets are closed to traffic in certain areas so families can bike safely. We were quite comfortable in the apartment, although we didn't choose to prepare meals there. There were so many wonderful restaurants from which to select! Although the restaurants were not in the immediate neighborhood, the taxis were plentiful. As others have mentioned, Spanish is nearly the exclusive language, so a good place to practice one's skills.
We found the internet access to be less than stellar, but it did function. We use Apple products, so there may have been some complication there. All in all, we had plenty of space for the three of us and were quite satisfied with our good fortune.
The smaller house on the property, closer to the Rio Maipo is the Casita with the wonderful sound of the river to fall asleep to. A beautiful house with all the amenities you will need for a perfect getaway. I really appreciated the 360 degree views of the spectacular Andes Mountains. The pool and the hot tub were wonderful after all the hiking. Nancy, our house keeper and cook made us feel very welcome and we bought her excellent honey to take back. The river below was spectacular and we would see raffters go by having a great time. There is horseback riding nearby as well. Can’t say enough good things about this special place. Can’t wait toe return!
Next we spent a couple of days in La Casita, the smaller hoyse on the property which was closer to the Maipo river and seemed like living in a treehouse. The upstairs bedroom also had an intimate terrace where you could have breakfast or a glass of wine and listen to the rush of the Rio Maipo. Every once in a while you would hear a large cheer from a group of rafters as they navigated through a particularly wild part of the Maipo below the house. As a landscape designer, I really appreciated that the house is surrounded by fig, apricot, sour cherry, quince and apple trees and has spectacular ornamental gardens as well. The pool and the hot tub were great too. The days were warm and the nights were cool. A perfect combination. For an extra special treat, buy Nancy’s honey. She is a beekepper and has her hives a short distance from the property. She also makes the most fantastic desserts. I will miss living in El Cajon de Maipo. Highly recommended.
We had an early morning overseas arrival and the property manager was most helpful in getting us in right away. Much appreciated after 14 hours of travel. The apartment does not disappoint. Fantastic kitchen--walked up to the Lider Express to buy groceries and enjoyed many meals in. So much room, such nice views! We were a little hot at night and couldn't find a thermastat--but, we didn't ask so there may have been a system somewhere. We could've used a couple of fans. The dryer cycle is much longer than the US so if you plan to wash do so the day before you leave. This is one of the comfortable and pleasant places we've rented. Advice to English speakers--English is barely spoken. Knowing a few Spanish words is helpful. People got a good natured laugh at my sad attempts at Spanish but it always seemed like making an effort was much appreciated. Enjoy the lovely tree lined streets of Santiago!
We really enjoyed our stay at Las Violetas. The very spacious apartment is wonderful and Judy ensures that you are supplied with anything one could need, including the paper products and soap. We've rented a few apartments now--prefer them to hotels--but the owner usually just supplies you with supplies to start with. Judy goes above and beyond, and Amaranta helped us with anything we needed locally. If you decide to come, Amaranta can help you set up trips to the vineyards--not to be missed. The apartment is in a peaceful neighborhood, but you need to know that it is about a 20 minute walk to the metro, which gives you access to the entire city, and is a similar walk (10-20 min) to good restaurants. Cabs are accessible and pretty cheap. Santiago is a great city to visit, and for us was a good base for exploring more of what Chile has to offer. Las Violetas provided all of the creature comforts we enjoy at home--comfortable beds, an outfitted kitchen, laundry, etc. We wouldn't hesitate to stay there again if we had another chance to visit Santiago. Highly recommended!
