About Preben Martin - Owner

We are Seattle natives but now spend half of the year in Seattle in our downtown condo or in our home on Vashon Island, and in our Arizona homes (Tubac and Tucson Foothills which is available for rent). We also love Hawaii and have a condo there that can also be rented through VRBO (our downtown Seattle condo is too). Working in sports television has its perks, but after many days on the road our favorite things to do are spend relaxing days in the beautiful places we call home. While in Tubac we love to walk to dinner at some of the fabulous restaurants, take walks along the de Anza trail behind out home, go hiking, ride our bikes around visiting galleries, and of course we just relax in the sun! Tubac is one of our favorite places on Earth and we hope you are able to enjoy it as well.

Why Preben Martin - Owner chose Tubac

We LOVE Tubac! We fell in love with it on our many visits from our home in Tucson for fabulous shopping and dining. It is a magical place where time stands still, history comes alive and you can immerse yourself in the small town Southwest lifestyle.

What makes this house unique

It was important to us to have a home that did not back up to other homes. We wanted the feel of being out in the great expanse of land that extends to the mountains beyond. We were lucky enough to get that house that backs up to the De Anza walking trail and active wash. At the same time we wanted to be within walking distance of the shops and restaurants we have come to love so much. With this beautiful custom home you get it all!

beautiful setting along De Anza Trail

  • 4 of 5

Beautiful both indoor and outdoor. Easy to hike the trail both south to Tumacacori and north.

Everything inside was comfortable. We rated it 4 stars rather than 5 because the "instant hot water" was not easy to figure out, and the barbecue grill starter button did not work and there was not an igniter tool around.

Owner's Response: We appreciated Rebecca taking the time to send us a note with things that needed to be addressed. All the homes in the trailhead were built with the same water systems. We have detailed how it works in our welcome packet. Most guests get the hang of it or ask for help when they arrive. We wish we would have had an opportunity to fix the BBQ starter while they were at the house. It is now scheduled to be fixed. Most of all we are glad they had a wonderful time in Tubac and love it as much as we do. Preben & Nicole Martin

Typical “absentee owner rental property”

  • 3 of 5

1. Wireless internet - wrong information provided.

2. 3 of 6 light bulbs in kitchen were burned out. Also some in bedrooms.

3. Toilet in master bath disgusting. I tried to clean.

4. Hot water circulation pump needs much better explanation. When set to provide hot water you can not get cold water in master bath.

5. No info provided about pool & gym. Which pool to use, code for gym, wifi code for gym.

6. Two sets of dishes but only 4 spoons.

7. Closet for master bath is dark. Overhead lighting has a problem. A table lamp without a shade is jury rigged to provide light.

8. Spare blankets were in a plastic bag. Could not use as the smell was overpowering. Barb took them home and washed them.

9. Sleeps 8 ????

10. $145 cleaning - someone needs to check.

11. $105 service fee - customer support? Problem calls are to be made to owner. Where is VRBO support?

We rented a unit in Barrio de Tubac for the month of April 2018. We thoroughly enjoyed Tubac. People are extremely friendly, great shopping, and good restaurants.

Owner's Response: We are very sorry that Michael R was not happy with his short visit at our house, and while we have never received any negative reviews, we take his experience very seriously. We stand by our successful rental history that spans many years with numerous return renters. We had problems originating with the initial correspondence with Michael. Unfortunately for all of us, he entered his email address incorrectly in the VRBO system and therefore he was not receiving our return communication prior to his check in. Once in our home, we moved quickly to remind him of the internet and pool access details that are in a binder in the house. We also send all of these details in an email prior to check in (that he did not receive because of the before mentioned incorrect email). We sincerely apologize that a few light bulbs were burned out, the spare blankets needed re-washing and the toilet had a malfunction between renters. We have addressed those issues with our property manager, and they will be rectified for all future renters. We clearly state that the home sleeps 4-6, not 8 as Michael suggests. In response to his feedback on VRBO, we of course don’t manage their fees or communication with the renter and have no control over that experience (however we did send them some feedback from our perspective on what can be improved). We are most happy that Michael is returning to Tubac, as we love this town, and we are glad he does too.

We have been to Tubac driving back from Bisbee and did stop but never stayed until this trip. We are so in love with this town, we want to live there. Our VRBO home had everything we needed and the best part was being able to walk the DeAnza trail each morning. It's why we picked this place and it did not disappoint! We were not able to connect to the wireless service but I could get through with our Verizion account.

We look forward to returning soon and often.

Beautiful house in exquisite setting!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 1/2 days at this beautiful home in Tubac AZ. The house was amazing and the setting for the property itself was beautiful. It was extremely quiet because behind the home is unspoiled land and hiking trails. There are birds to see and hear galore.

The house is so well equipped we had everything we needed and more. We have stayed at other places in Tubac but they don't come close to this charming house and property.

We read, rested, hiked, shopped a little and mainly unwound and came home relaxed and happy. We highly recommend escaping city life and heading for Tubac and this top notch vacation rental.

This house has it all!!

  • 5 of 5

Want to get out of the Phoenix heat, but not go too far? This is a great option for you! My husband and I spent some time at this charming house in June of this year and it was perfect! The house has everything you could possibly want from ample space, plenty of dishes, comfortable bed, TV, BBQ and an amazing outdoor area to gaze at the stars. Seriously, it is truly a treat to go outside after the sun goes down and stare at the beautiful, unobstructed view of the stars with no city lights! We spent a couple days just lounging in the comfort of the home playing board games and relaxing feeling like we were millions of miles from Phoenix. We spent a morning walking the trails that are literally right out the back door then the afternoon by the neighborhood pool. We were able to even take an excursion to Lake Patagonia to picnic and experience the cool lake water, it’s a mere 45 minutes away! Take advantage of the small town feel by hitting some of the local shops with awesome knick-knacks for your yard and there are plenty of yummy restaurants nearby too. Plus, the golf course that part of Tin Cup was filmed at has a great outdoor café that we stopped at on our way into town for a drink. Finally, the best part is if you don’t live in Arizona, but want to visit, it’s less than an hour from the Tucson Airport. The owners were super helpful and accommodating, we highly recommend this house and hope to get back sometime in the winter for a whole different experience!
