Overview

Guanacaste House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Casa Vista Del Mar truly lives up to its name.

Nestled among mature trees on a hill centrally located above Playa Samara, the breathtaking vista spans 180 degrees of ocean view. From Playa Carrillo to the left, all the way to Playa Buena Vista in the far distance to the right, the sparkling Pacific Ocean is a constant accompaniment during your vacation at Casa Vista Del Mar.

The house itself affords one of the best views of Samara bay that can be found. (Don't just take our word for it, you can see the independent comments on the TA travellers forum for Playa Samara dated March 19, 2012.) While relaxing on the patio or bathing in our 26 ft (8 meter) swimming pool, blue ocean waters can be seen everywhere.

You can see Isla Chora where adventurous tourists stop by every day while kayaking, as well as the local fishermen as they pull into or out of the bay in their pangas and fishing boats to bring home the catch of the day. If you were a photographer, you wouldn’t be able to arrange a picture any more pleasing to the eye than this.

Casa Vista Del Mar is centered around a huge living space which boasts a 22 ft. (7 metres) ceiling made of tropical hardwood. The open floor design of the living room integrates the kitchen and dining area and also allows for easy access to the outdoor dining area.

The overall design facilitates natural airflow and keeps the temperature inside the house comfortable most of the time. Individually controlled air conditioning in each of the three bedrooms is available as an optional extra.

The three bedrooms offer a range of views: the blue expanse of the Pacific ocean, the dramatic views of Samara bay, to the dappled sunlight of the grounds with it's one and a half acres (0.6 hectare) of tropical plants and trees. Two of the bedrooms are en suite while the third bedroom has a bathroom adjacent to it. Ceiling fans are in all bedrooms.

The kitchen is fully equipped with all standard appliances - including a blender, and a coffee maker essential for enjoying Costa Rica's fabulous fresh fruit and excellent coffee. A covered propane fired barbeque is located next to the outdoor dining area.

At Casa Vista Del Mar, you will have access to complimentary local telephone, Wi-Fi Broadband internet as well as Satellite TV with audio and video entertainment - mostly in English and Spanish.

The grounds are extensive and ensure your privacy. Our gardeners keep the undergrowth cut back under the jungle canopy to allow the ocean breezes to flow through our property keeping it cooler while also minimizing mosquitoes. Walking paths invite you to stroll about and rest on some of the benches along the way to observe the local wildlife. Howler Monkeys and various other animals such as Coati, Iguanas and Armadillos regularly visit the gardens. This is also a bird lover's paradise with regular sightings of Mot Mot's, Aricari (a Toucan variety), green parrots and a variety of birds unique to the Guanacaste dry forest environment. A wide variety of butterflies too numerous to mention can be seen throughout the property including the occasional presence of the beautiful Blue Morpho butterfly.

A short stroll (roughly ten to fifteen minutes) along a mostly shaded and paved quiet road takes you right to the beach, while walking along the the crescent-shaped beach just a bit farther will lead you into town. A $4 to $5 taxi ride gets you home again.

About KATE and WILL VANDERBURGH

We are a retired British/Canadian couple residing in Canada who escape Canadian winters at Casa Vista Del Mar.

KATE and WILL VANDERBURGH purchased this house in 2010

Why KATE and WILL VANDERBURGH chose Guanacaste

We first came to Costa Rica in 2004 and spent our first few trips exploring both the Caribbean and Pacific coastlines. Luckily we found Samara on our first trip and it became the destination from which we compared all other possible destinations as we checked out different places along both coasts. In the end we were not able to find another location as appealing to us as Samara.________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

What we love about Samara and its neighbouring village of Carrillo is that they are actual Costa Rican villages. Samara has the feel of a small town with all the modern conveniences. It is also the center for night life in the area. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Its' hilltop location provides Casa Vista Del Mar with its 180 degree panoramic views over Playa Samara. The house and pool area face almost due south making it possible to see both the sunrise and sunset. Due to the topography and size of the property the house and the pool area facing the Pacific ocean are completely private. No other property overlooks us._____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

We also loved the unique 8 sided architecture and character of the house. Since Costa Rica is a seismically active country we wanted a single storey house that was well above sea level and it was important to us that the house be sympathetic with its natural environment. Another tropical design feature is Casa Vista Del Mar's high ceilings and double roof that allows the house to be cooled by capturing the fresh ocean breezes that one gets when on a hilltop. We also installed quiet a/c units for each of the three bedrooms for those times when there is no breeze.__________________________________________________________________________________________

What makes this house unique

The things we love the most about Casa Vista Del Mar are:

1. the view,

2. its' privacy,

3. its' unique, spacious and robust octagonal design,

4. its' full complement of modern conveniences,

5. its' tsunami-proof hilltop position,

6. the near constant ocean breeze which moderates the temperature and discourages mosquitoes, and

7. its' proximity to the beach and the village of Samara (i.e. walking distance).

All the previous reviews are bang on, you wont be disappointed. The grounds and house have everything you need. Kate and Will have thought of everything and every comfort is available. The only downside is you end up spending less time at the beach because the is no reason to leave! Do yourself a favour and rent Casa Vista Del Mar.

Absolutely wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

Stunning ocean views and sunsets. Wonderful patio/pool area. The entire house is perfecto! Kate and Will were extremely helpful beforehand via email in planning our first trip to Costa Rica. Thank you so much! Property managers were great. David gave us a helpful Samara map and great recommendations for dining, surf lessons, groceries, ATM, etc. and also left us with coffee, milk, snacks, etc upon arrival. Surf lessons at Samara were perfect for 18 & 19 year old sons and hubby too. It was an easy drive to Playa Carrillo for a bit more wave action on boogie boards. Would love to return to this gorgeous home. Highly recommend!

Excellent vacation home!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Casa Vista Del Mar for 8 days over the Christmas break, with 4 adults and two young children aged 2 and 4. I agree with all the previous reviews - the house is beautiful and very comfortable for a family, and provided us with a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the beauty of Costa Rica. The pool is large, clean, with a spectacular view of the ocean beyond, and everything about the spacious grounds was perfect for us. The owners Will and Kate were very helpful beforehand, as were the property managers Melissa and David. The welcome package was a very generous touch, too. The kitchen was well-equipped and spacious, and we enjoyed being able to cook most of our meals and eat outside on the patio. We particularly loved Playa Carillo, one of the most beautiful beaches we have ever seen, just a few minutes drive from the house. We would recommend this property to anyone wanting a relaxing and beautiful vacation. Thank you for sharing your home, Will and Kate!

Spectacular!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Casa Vista Del Mar for 2 weeks in August. This house is absolutely gorgeous - a hexagon shape with high ceilings and glass doors the entire length of the side of the house that faces the ocean. The panoramic vista of Samara bay is spectacular. The pool was refreshing (but not at all too cold) and we often spent hours and hours in it. In fact, generally speaking, it was often hard to leave the house because we were so happy there. The bedrooms and bathrooms were spacious, clean and attractive. The living space was quite comfortable, with fast wifi, a TV and DVD player (along with lots of DVDs, books and CDs).

The owners Kate and Will were friendly, helpful and communicative prior to our arrival. They checked in by email shortly after we arrived. And, very generously, welcomed us with wine, beer and juice in the refrigerator and a bunch of snacks. They also keep an instruction manual in the house with detailed information on everything you need to know.

Similarly, the property managers David and Melissa were also quite friendly and helpful. Upon arrival, they took an extensive amount of time with us going over the house logistics and sharing their favorite restaurants and other insights. They were very responsive when we had any minor challenge (e.g. the gas for the grill ran out and Melissa got another gas tank delivered to us in less than 30 minutes).

Accessing the house by car was simple, although I would not consider it walking distance from the beach (unless you want to walk about a mile). There's no problem parking right in town in August. The only other thing to know about the house is that ants in the kitchen were a daily fact of life. They are tiny and not a nuisance, but worth knowing about in advance.

A few fantastic restaurants to recommend: El Colibri in nearby Playa Carrillo (fantastic grilled steaks) and Casa Esmarelda. We also went ziplining right next door at Wingnuts, run by a kind local man.

I would highly, highly recommend this lovely house and it's spectacular view and privacy to anyone interesting in staying in Samara.

Speechless!!!

  • 5 of 5

Stop! You found the perfect place!!! Look no more!!!

We arrived here after a tiring drive from manual Antonio with 3 little nagging kids.

We got to the house and all 5 of us just stood there speechless!!!

It was even more beautiful in person.

The house is spacious and so tasteful, although it is big it feels so cozy and warm. The grounds are so pretty and the view is breathtaking. My husband and I just stood there looking at each other and we couldn't believe it. The kids jumped straight to the pool!!!!

David the rental manager showed us all we needed and explained everything. He is very friendly and nice. We felt at home.

On the table will and Kate left us a complimentary coffee and snacks and a bottle of wine, beer and milk in the fridge.

So thoughtful and Generous!!!!

We never experienced anything like this before and we have been renting houses like this for the last few years!

The kitchen is equipped with everything you need and more (even a dishwasher)

We enjoyed cooking and using the gas BBQ outside. And making tasty smoothies in the blender.

The next day we just couldn't leave the house we had to enjoy all this beauty!!! And just by sitting by the pool we have seen more wildlife than we saw in the rainforest.

Howler monkeys on the trees just around us, so many different kinds of birds, mot mots, parrots, jays. Iguanas , just amazing... I couldn't get enough and I have some great pictures.

Samara itself is a very friendly town, the beach is great and the atmosphere is laid back and fun!!!

As I said, look no more and book as soon as possible. You won't be sorry!!!

Thank you Will and Kate for opening your house for us! We really do hope to come back soon this house and town is rated by my family number one!!!

Our vacation is almost over and it is going to be very hard to leave this paradise.

Pura vida!!!

the views and the monkeys!

  • 5 of 5

Just completed a great week at this villa. The photos really do not do it justice, as the property is larger than it appears and the landscaping is immaculate. You are surrounded by numerous types of tropical trees (bamboo, banana, etc), flowers, and many birds are frequent visitors. (hummingbirds, parakeets, and many more). The howler monkeys were very evident by all the howling, but for our last 2 days we were treated to some close visits by the howlers and were able to get some great photos. The pool is awesome, especially at night for star-gazing with a glass of wine. The house itself is large and well equipped for cooking. We used the gas grill a couple times. The local property managers David & Melissa, are great to deal with and quickly dealt with any issues that arose. We enjoyed several of the beach restaurants (Gusto, El Ancla, and another whose name escapes me), prices are reasonable and the food is good. However, our favourite restaurants were Samara Pacific Lodge, Ma Ma Gui, and the El Colibri, the first two in Samara and the last one in Carrillo. All in all, a great vacation in a beautiful villa!
