My wife and I travel quite a bit and felt that this was the nicest house we have stayed at. It was just as advertised. We really enjoyed the deck and outdoor fire pit. Our favorite places to eat were the Dancing Moose for breakfast and Danena's (up north on the Cabot Trail just before Dingwall road) for seafood chowder. The CB Highlands National Park was everything we had hoped for. We hit peak foliage from Oct. 11-17. It's a long ways away but worth it if you are going to stay for a week or longer. Thanks again.
I have found that 5 stars are too often given so that the rating starts to lose its meaning. This truly is a 5 star property. It is beautifully designed and built with pine- planked inside walls that lend such charm and interest. Each bedroom has its own bathroom, a rarity and yet so helpful with a larger family or couples traveling together. There's plenty of space for privacy and also for interaction. The furniture is very nice and actually comfortable...as is the King bed (didn't try the others.) We ate all breakfasts and dinners there so really appreciated the high-end appliances (especially the Jenn-Aire duel fuel stove/oven) and the gas grill. And then there's the magnificent view from the house, from the porch, and from the firepit with chairs area right by the water. And the sound of the waves to lull you to sleep. And then there's the porch. since the photos on this site were taken, beautiful, high quality couch, chairs and tables are now present...we practically lived on that porch. This truly is one listing that is even better then its photos and write-up.
As for the practical matters, Tonia was so easy to work with and very responsive. She provides lots of information about what to do, best places to eat, shop, etc. ahead of time and kindly and quickly answered some additional questions we thought of. The house was immaculate and the linens were of excellent quality. Nothing was missing. And our refundable security deposit check was waiting for us when we got home.
We spent a wonderful week at Green Gate Cottage. The home is beautiful and immaculate. The owners were terrific to work with and Tonia provided some great suggestions of local activities and things to do in the park. I will and have already recommended this cottage to friends and may well be back for a second stay!
Just finished our stay! I am at the Toronto Airport headed back to the US and I wanted to thank Steve and Tonia for a great visit! Nicely appointed close to the water, quiet, comfortable. Words cannot express our satisfaction. If you pass this one up, you will be sorry! We hope to come back in the future!
I just spent a week at Green Gate Cottage and it was AMAZING! We went for our honeymoon and brought six friends with us; we had a fantastic time and can't wait to go back for a reunion trip! The house is absolutely beautiful and in the perfect location; it was great waking up to seals barking & the sun shining, campfires at night listening to the waves crashing and spending some time at the local shops and restaurants.
While we were there we drove the Cabot Trail and went into several shops along the way, hiked to Uisge Bahn Falls in Baddeck, went whale watching with Kinnon McKinnon from Keltic Express Zodiac Tours (EXCELLENT!), golfed at Highland Links and Bell Bay and checked out the miners museum in Glace Bay. So much more we wanted to do but we'll save those adventures for next time!
The care-takers were so friendly and helpful and the locals are so welcoming that it felt like home. Thank you so much for everything Tonia! It was more perfect than I could have imagined!
Other Activities: Scenic drives, whale watching, tours to Bird Islands, kayaking, beautiful hiking trails, waterfalls, local music, Ceilidhs, and artisans...
