Why Bill Nast chose Lake George Area

Our Grandparents built this house on beautiful Lake George. As the story goes, Alexander and Belle came up from New York City in the late 20’s and rented a summer cottage on Diamond Point. They decided to explore the yet undeveloped east side of the lake by row boat. While on the water, a storm blew-in and this beach was the only place they could pull the boat to land. They loved what they found and inquired of its availability.

It just so happened that this area of the lake was a land grant from King George III to the Oakley Estate (locals who favored the King) with the stipulation from the King that the tall pine trees remain available to the crown for ship masts. Alexander and Belle purchased the property but had to wait a few years for a dirt road to be cut along the shore (Pilot Knob Rd) for access. With the help of his brother-in-law Judd, who was an engineer by trade, they built the original cottage. In the late 1960’s, as the family continued to grow, the main cottage had a major renovation and the second cottage was built.

Alexander was a prolific painter who’s works you’ll enjoy throughout the house. His daughter painted his portrait that hangs on the porch. Four generations have grown up here with lasting memories. Our grandparents had a dream, to create a gift on Lake George for their family to enjoy for generations. We hope by sharing this dream with you, you will come to appreciate all the beauty that is Lake George.

The perfect family reunion spot!!

  • 5 of 5

This was our 6th year at this lovely lake front house and cottage. I can not say enough about the location and the perfect "lake feel" you get when you stay here. Every time we return, we all say the same thing, "you forget how wonderful a place it is until you see the lake as you pull in the driveway". It is the perfect location between Bolton Landing and Lake George Village, 10 minutes by boat to each! Viewing the fireworks from the lake is a must! Bonfire every night by the lake making S'mores. Family game night on the screened in porch. The house is well stocked from lake toys to the kitchen sink, literally!

Sleeps 10 comfortably...the kids love having their own space in the cottage! Thank you, Bill, for sharing this gem with us for the past 6 years...we will be back next year!

beautiful and restful retreat!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at this gorgeous property! The house is cozy, inviting and perfect for a group. We hardly left the house because it literally has everything - kitchen is fully stocked and perfect for making big meals, we used the charcoal grill and the outdoor fire pit in the evenings and the kayaks and canoes out on the lake during the day. Relaxing on the screened in porch, the beach and the dock was a perfect way to spend the afternoon. Sunsets are spectacular! Thanks you for sharing your beautiful retreat with us!

Beautiful lake house

  • 5 of 5

Great place for a relaxing long weekend with friends/family. The house was great, right on the water with everything you could possibly need to feel at home. We made use of the canoe and kayaks to explore the lake and fish after morning hikes. Close to black and buck mountain hiking trails and a few others we didn't get to fit into our stay. Can't wait to come back again, thank you for sharing your home!

Great Lakefront Experience

  • 5 of 5

This property is a bit of a hidden gem on Lake George. I loved the location on the lake, close to a couple of marinas, on a bay that is a little quieter than the main lake. The property itself is actually pretty private with a fence and stream on one side and a retaining wall on the other. The grounds are spacious with one of the best swimming areas I have seen on the lake. Great for smaller kids. There is room for a boat and enough included toys to make it really nice. The main house is interesting, an old time lake cottage with updated kitchen and bathrooms. Lots of antiques but not museum pieces. One favorite was the pre-WWII globe in the small bedroom. Kitchen is well equipped and worked well for us. We spent a lot of time on the lawn lakeside and had a great time. Well done Bill.

Lovely Location Didn't Quite Make up For Cons

  • 3 of 5

We stayed at this Lake George home for our annual girls’ reunion weekend, time that is precious to us since we are working mothers with young children and some of us travel very far to make it happen. This is a lovely home in a great area. But we had a couple of disappointments during our stay that weren’t adequately addressed by the owner. We probably would not recommend this rental.

-Spacious, newly updated home right on the lake.

-Located at the end of the road, so little traffic (except for the house next door – more on that in the CONS section)

-big yard with Adirondack chairs for sipping cocktails and looking out at the lake (and the two families of ducks that reside there)

-nice fire pit

-We woke up to construction every morning at 8 a.m. They were building a boat launch at the house next door and used power drills every morning. Apparently the owner knew this work was scheduled but neglected to inform us. Again, his response was lightly apologetic.

-We had to pay a linen fee, which was fine except that at least one set of sheets wasn’t clean when we got there (sand in the bed)! When pressed on the issue, the owner refunded us one quarter of the linen fee.

-We still had to bring our own towels, including hand towels for the bathroom. (There were dishtowels in the kitchen, however.)

-There is a rather major insect and rodent infestation in the front bedroom.

There was a huge pile of dead (or dying) flies on the window sills, on the table near the window, and behind the dresser. There were also baby mice struggling to survive. When informed about the mice, the owner’s (not very prompt) response was, “Sorry about that.”

We understand that sometimes things happen -- bugs and mice do proliferate in wooded areas -- but the owner's responses to these issues was a tad unconcerned.

Owner's Response: I am so sorry that these issues happened and as a family home, we want your experience with us to be perfect. Clearly it was not. “Cons” don’t sit well with us and we will use this as a basis for improvement. We’re going to try harder to be sure our guests have a great experience. While I take exception to some of the facts and the timing as they are described, the bottom line is that we had a renter who didn’t totally love their stay. We take pride in the house that’s been in the family for four generations and in providing a Lake George experience that will bring you back (many of our renters have been returning for years). In this case, our cleaning person who’s been with us for years was away visiting her new granddaughter and her substitute didn’t live up to the level of detail that is expected (we are back to our normal routine). We have a caretaker that checks for issues like the mice. That would be unpleasant for anyone so we will make sure that is improved as well. As you probably know, an early season occurrence like that may happen but we need to be quicker to react. We want you back and please contact me privately to see if there is anything I can do to help secure your return.
