About the property

4 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths, Sleeps 4-8/price

Next to a mountain stream, this house is handcrafted and ideally situated for exploring the pristine nature of Point Reyes National Seashore. This place is one of the iconic, true Inverness homes, only a 5 minute stroll through First Valley to town shops, oysters at Salt Water restaurant and Tomales Bay.

Or going feral, you can cross the footbridge near the house, hike up the mesa where you'll find myriad trails climbing Mount Vision to the kettle ponds and sweeping views. Nearby are Tomales Bay cove beaches, Pacific side oceanic beaches, whale watching, wild flowers, mountain biking, sailing and kayaking. The house is also perfect for cozy dinners, games, movies, reading and relaxing with loved ones.

This is a great place for a family, at the end of a short lane, safe from road traffic. There is a toy room, shared tennis courts, an open outdoor dining space for picnics under a live oak.

Keywords: Country House, Oysters, Beaches, Writing Retreat, getaway, West Marin hiking, trees and clean air, quiet, whales and wild life, serene marshlands, gourmet food.

Margaret purchased this house in 2001

Why Margaret chose The Bay Area

We marvel at Point Reyes and the choices of fun fresh things to do in this boundless and well-protected natural preserve.

What makes this house unique

Heart's Desire hikes, Bodega Bay for a tour of Hitchcock's set for The Birds and crab salad in town, oysters at Hog Island, dinner in Point Reyes, the local farmer's market on Saturdays, taking the hounds to Kehoe Beach for big tumbling waves, reading the paper at Drakes, blackberry picking in September...the list goes on and on!

Overall, a very comfortable and pleasant home.

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay over a rainy weekend in Inverness. We couldn't go outside like we wanted, but had a great time inside. The owner is very easy to communicate with and is prompt with communications. The house is large and well-equipped, making it very comfortable for 6 adults and 1 toddler.

Beautiful creekside home

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time in this beautiful, comfortable home in the woods of Inverness. The space was more than enough for eight of us, and the house is full of light (skylights, stained glass; loved the windows!) and the sound of the creek. The kitchen is perfectly stocked and a great, open space for cooking with friends. The kids enjoyed the rope swing and we appreciated the wood stove. It's a quick walk to a market, or a restaurant for oysters, and the neighbors were friendly and directed us through the trees to a trail up to Inverness ridge. And of course there's the easy access to Point Reyes beaches and trails. Thank you Margaret!

Perfect, Magical Home in the Woods

  • 5 of 5

We had a family get together for my brother's birthday. It was a last minute change of plan as our original arrangements fell through. Margaret was absolutely wonderful to work with. She accommodated us effortlessly and was a total joy to work with! Margaret was a life saver! The home was wonderful and easily housed all 8 of us. The kitchen was well appointed and flowed perfectly for all the cooks in the kitchen. It rained steadily the whole time we were there and couldn't have been lovelier. The wood burning stove kept us all cozy. It was wonderful watching the rain run down the windows and the creek rushing by. We only went out once for a birthday lunch. The rest of the time we enjoyed playing games, laughing, cooking and looking at all the interesting books on the shelves. It truly was a once in a lifetime experience that none of us will soon forget. Thank you again Margaret. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely return!

A magical retreat

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here for a family celebration and all of us, from toddler to middle schooler to grandparents alike, were so smitten with this place. It was filled with great books, a few great toys, and the kitchen items of my dreams (the best rental kitchen I've ever encountered). I spent much of my time fantasizing about my own family living there--it was so comfortable and tasteful and perfect. We ate outside, played on the rope swing, cooked up numerous feasts, and even played tennis down the road! Margaret was a pleasure to communicate with. Couldn't recommend more highly!

Charming & Comfortable Home Base for a Visit to Point Reyes

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I really enjoyed our stay here. The house easily accommodated our group of six during our visit to explore Point Reyes. Its open layout and high ceilings, as well as the fully-equipped kitchen and nice big dining table, contributed to a convivial, communal atmosphere. The surrounding area - Inverness itself, Tomales Bay, and Point Reyes - is beautiful, and photographs do not do it justice.

Delightful Family Home

  • 5 of 5

We celebrated my husband's birthday here and it was perfect. Play room, tree house and rope swing for the children...incredible walks in Point Reyes ( one of my favorite places on the planet) for the rest of us. It is large and comfortabe with a well equipped kitchen and toasty warm on a cold night. Point Reyes Station is a bonus. A cute little town to poke around and fine gourmet treats or crafts. Highly recommended.
