Romantic & Enchanting 'Juliette', Utterly Charming Ile St. Louis

Bedrooms 2
Space 725 sq. ft.
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 4 nights

About the property

Apartment, 2 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps up to 6)

You will never forget your stay in this luxuriously appointed, utterly charming 'jewel box' of an apartment on the magical island of Ile St. Louis. The beauty of this Parisian pied-a-terre is exceeded only by its perfect location.

Juliette's 725 s.f. can accommodate from 1 - 6 people (5 adults, maximum) and is best suited for a romantic retreat, a 'girls' getaway, or a small family and may not be ideally suited for someone with mobility issues. With its 'open' floor plan, it does not provide absolute privacy; if that is what you require, please contact us and we may be able to offer alternative accommodations (our Left Bank property is both private and accessible).

Originally constructed in 1652, renovations were overseen by an award-winning French movie set designer; virtually every element is custom, from the 17th century hardwood floors to the hand-painted Renaissance era beams and exposed stonework. Nestled between the Left Bank (Latin Quarter) and Right Bank (the hip Marais district), our little 'island on the Seine' enchants with its narrow, cobblestone-lined streets filled with cafes, art galleries, gourmet restaurants, patisseries, chocolatiers and elegant boutiques selling antiques, traditional produce and fine foods and flowers. The 'Ile' is also home to the world famous glacier (ice cream purveyor) Berthillon, nearby. It is a five-minute walk to Notre Dame, and a short Metro ride (or walk) to every major tourist attraction and shopping area. This picture-perfect location - a favorite of visiting Americans and Europeans -- is everything you've imagined Paris to be. You will feel exceedingly comfortable and safe in this very special neighborhood.

Upon entering, you will be embraced by Juliette's warmth and unique character, which was lovingly created by its former owner, the wife of a French Senator, who scoured the flea markets and villages around Paris to create the ambiance of 17th Century France. At the same time, the apartment boasts the latest, modern amenities -- from WiFi and high-end appliances to luxury linens and a spacious travertine American style shower -- to make your stay completely convenient and comfortable.

You'll enter a small foyer where an antique writing desk, equipped by a MAC desktop, WiFi printer, and travel guide filled bookcase is framed by another ten-foot window greenery-filled floor-to-ceiling French window; the perfect spot to pen a postcard or your Parisian memoirs. The adjacent downstairs bedroom, one step down, features two beds - a double in an alcove flanked by two spacious wardrobes; a second twin bed with storage neatly tucked under stairs leads to a romantic, low-ceilinged upstairs loft.

The large living space is spacious yet warm, and filled with wonderful antiques. A 17th century ship captain's safe serves as a stand for a flat-screen TV, and an 18th century portrait graces an antique hearth with a working eco-friendly fireplace, which faces a comfortable daybed (which can accommodate a sixth guest). The space is illuminated by a sparkling crystal chandelier. A pretty dining table sits adjacent to a street-side ten foot classic French window. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need to create perfect French cuisine, including a famous 'La Cornue' stove (the Rolls Royce of French cooking equipment), microwave, dishwasher (cleverly concealed in an antique hutch), a lovely buffet with marble-topped workspace, and a full complement of utensils, pots, pans, china and glassware. Cable television, DVD and CD player are accompanied by a selection of music and French-themed American movies to complete the ambiance. The lovely shower room features a spacious shower with classic French brass fixtures, crystal sconces and an antique chest/sink. The lavatory is in a separate room, with a unique ship captain's wash basin that complements the nautical theme. There is also a Miele washer/dryer.

You may not want to leave your cozy nest in the mezzanine loft, with a queen sized bed adjacent to an en suite bathroom featuring a wonderful Napoleonic era claw foot tub -- a perfect place to soak after a long day on the cobblestones. It also includes a sink and toilet. Please note that, while adding to the unique charm of this property, the low ceiling in the loft will require ducking for anyone of stature (over 5'5'); the loft is also open to the area below.

With its perfect central location and beautiful interior, updated with modern conveniences, this very special, historic apartment will make your experience in Paris all the more memorable. Juliette is a very special place from which to explore all the best that this magical city has to offer.

Please note: our nightly rate is for up to four guests; there is an additional $25 per night charge for additional guests to cover the cost of additional linens and cleaning. Our cancellation policy is 90 DAYS IN ADVANCE OF OCCUPANCY - VRBO/HomeAway doesn't allow this option in their system, but in our experience, since European travelers normally plan/book their vacations far in advance, this period of time is required in order to re-book our rental. Your 50% deposit (required to reserve dates) is fully refundable up to 90 days before the date you arrive; once the balance is paid the reservation is non-refundable. We will process any deposit refunds outside of the VRBO system. We do recommend trip insurance to protect against any unforeseen circumstances. While you may drop your bags as early as 10 am, check in time is 3 pm if another guest is checking out the morning of your arrival. Check-out is 10 am. Please keep these times in mind when make travel arrangements. We of course do our best to get you in as early as possible, but the only way to guarantee an early check in is to reserve the night prior to arrival.

Please let us know if you have any questions. We would love to welcome you to Juliette!

Utterly charming and well-appointed in central Paris

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent two weeks in Paris--our first time in Paris--staying at this lovely, clean, and charming Juliette apartment. We were amazed that you could hear no street noise at all with the windows closed. The beds were substantial and super comfortable. Lots of outlets for charging camera, etc. Very good water pressure and plenty of hot water in the 3 bathrooms (we used loft bathroom only once--for the great clawfoot tub--so soothing for tired tootsies--just watch your head with ceiling height below five feet, as the picture shows).

The location is more than perfect. Not only can you walk to many top places of interest e.g. Notre Dame), but you could actually never leave the island at all, if you liked, as it has plenty of stores, restaurants, grocery, boulangerie, pattiserie, etc. Of course one MUST leave the island for the Paris experience. The walk to the Pont Marie metro stop on right bank was very convenient. We took the metro frequently...very easy to use.

And the help and support of Michele and David made for an anxiety-free trip...always there to help before and during the trip. We had left a bag of purchases (art and clothes) at a restaurant in the Montmarte and David called them on our behalf to see if was still there more than a day later (when we finally remembered it) and it was! He communicated to them our plan to return the next day to retrieve it. All of Michele's advice is excellent and especially the idea to go to Café St. Regis if you arrive before check in time. Best Eggs Benedict in Paris (probably). We returned for breakfast a few more times (when not getting pastries from one of the three nearby shops).

Two recommendations to pass along--We recommend Les Ombres restaurant--a roof top location with sparkling view of the Eiffel Tower and the sunset and great food. And for the best hot chocolate (in the world, IMHO) go to Angelina's and order the Chocolate Chaud Africain. It is to die for. Flagship store is on Rue de Rivoli near the Louvre, but there is also an Angelina's inside the Louvre, Palace of Versailles, and Galeries Lafayette department store in the Opera district.

We appreciated having a dishwasher and a washer and dryer (two separate appliances) which worked extremely well. The apartment was exactly what we hoped for and more.

Charming stay in the perfect location

  • 5 of 5

We came to Paris for our anniversary, we couldn’t have asked for a better spot to stay. The location on Ile St Louis was walking distance to all of paris’ sights and the darling streets of the island would have been missed had we stayed elsewhere. The apartment itself was such a treat we ended up have all our morning coffees and more nights in than we had planned because the ambience was pure Paris perfection. The history of the building with the beautiful wood floors and incredible beamed ceilings along with the elegance of the chandeliers and beautiful decor made it such a treat to wake each morning and return home each evening. There are a lot of little quirks in the apartment, from light switches in odd places, the four foot opening to the upstairs bath, and the fold-down sink downstairs... they added to the charm of the place, and with the modern conveniences that the owners have included - dishwasher, nespresso and coffee press, the lovely fire and the spa-like shower, we were very comfortable. We loved our stay and would highly recommend Juliette to anyone looking for a special spot they will remember long after they have departed.

Stunningly gorgeous (yet quirky and unique) apartment on an idyllic island in the Seine

  • 5 of 5

My family of four (including an 11 and 13 yr old) absolutely loved staying in Michelle’s apartment in Paris! We stayed there at the recommendation of friends who had said that they absolutely loved it, but that it is quirky. To me, it felt like we were staying in the flat of a family friend who has amazing taste and attention to detail. Everything from the smell of the apartment (a lovely —and compimentary—french soap) to the sheets to original French antiques and art work that adorn the apartment reflect a true love for Paris and someone who has amazing taste. The apartment is definitely quirky... you enter through a first floor gated hallway/allyway and up some exterior circular steps, the toilet and shower/sink room are separated, the loft has a low ceiling and you need to crouch to get into the 2nd fl bathroom. That said, we were cozy and comfortable in the space and felt we had been well prepared by Michelle’s description. The location of the apartment is unbeatable— quiet, yet filled with chic shops and tasty neighborhood-feeling restaurants. We loved it!! I feel like I should mention that there was a mix up and the local apartment manager was expecting us a day later than our reservation. Luckily she was able to respond promptly to my calls and get us into the apartment with only a small delay. The local cleaners and apartment manager seem to be very “on it,” and the owner’s lengthy sheet of Parisian recommendations (from what to pack to where to eat and shop) were fabulous. Thank you for making our family’s trip to Paris so special!

Perfect in Every Way!

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from our 5 night stay at Juliette, and what a wonderful experience it was! The apartment is charming in every way, and both the owner and the on-site manager could not have been better. . . their professionalism, enthusiasm for Paris, responsiveness, and attention to detail are unmatched. Our family of four, including kids ages 18 and 20, had a wonderful time.

Ile Saint Louis is the perfect location, offering a quiet neighborhood ambiance just steps away from the action in the Latin Quarter, the Marais, and Ile de la Cite. We walked everywhere. Ile Saint Louis was the perfect place to start our day with a trip to our favorite boulangerie for croissants, and the ideal picturesque setting to return to after a long day of site seeing. We felt like temporary Parisians for 5 days, since we got to know and looked forward to seeing and interacting with our favorite boulanger, wine merchant, and server at the Cafe St. Regis. We cannot recommend this apartment, the island, or the personal service more highly.
