Romantic & Enchanting 'Juliette', Utterly Charming Ile St. Louis

Bedrooms 2
Space 725 sq. ft.
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 4 nights

About the property

Apartment, 2 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps up to 6)

You will never forget your stay in this luxuriously appointed, utterly charming 'jewel box' of an apartment on the magical island of Ile St. Louis. The beauty of this Parisian pied-a-terre is exceeded only by its perfect location.

Juliette's 725 s.f. can accommodate from 1 - 6 people (5 adults, maximum) and is best suited for a romantic retreat, a 'girls' getaway, or a small family and may not be ideally suited for someone with mobility issues. With its 'open' floor plan, it does not provide absolute privacy; if that is what you require, please contact us and we may be able to offer alternative accommodations (our Left Bank property is both private and accessible).

Originally constructed in 1652, renovations were overseen by an award-winning French movie set designer; virtually every element is custom, from the 17th century hardwood floors to the hand-painted Renaissance era beams and exposed stonework. Nestled between the Left Bank (Latin Quarter) and Right Bank (the hip Marais district), our little 'island on the Seine' enchants with its narrow, cobblestone-lined streets filled with cafes, art galleries, gourmet restaurants, patisseries, chocolatiers and elegant boutiques selling antiques, traditional produce and fine foods and flowers. The 'Ile' is also home to the world famous glacier (ice cream purveyor) Berthillon, nearby. It is a five-minute walk to Notre Dame, and a short Metro ride (or walk) to every major tourist attraction and shopping area. This picture-perfect location - a favorite of visiting Americans and Europeans -- is everything you've imagined Paris to be. You will feel exceedingly comfortable and safe in this very special neighborhood.

Upon entering, you will be embraced by Juliette's warmth and unique character, which was lovingly created by its former owner, the wife of a French Senator, who scoured the flea markets and villages around Paris to create the ambiance of 17th Century France. At the same time, the apartment boasts the latest, modern amenities -- from WiFi and high-end appliances to luxury linens and a spacious travertine American style shower -- to make your stay completely convenient and comfortable.

You'll enter a small foyer where an antique writing desk, equipped by a MAC desktop, WiFi printer, and travel guide filled bookcase is framed by another ten-foot window greenery-filled floor-to-ceiling French window; the perfect spot to pen a postcard or your Parisian memoirs. The adjacent downstairs bedroom, one step down, features two beds - a double in an alcove flanked by two spacious wardrobes; a second twin bed with storage neatly tucked under stairs leads to a romantic, low-ceilinged upstairs loft.

The large living space is spacious yet warm, and filled with wonderful antiques. A 17th century ship captain's safe serves as a stand for a flat-screen TV, and an 18th century portrait graces an antique hearth with a working eco-friendly fireplace, which faces a comfortable daybed (which can accommodate a sixth guest). The space is illuminated by a sparkling crystal chandelier. A pretty dining table sits adjacent to a street-side ten foot classic French window. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need to create perfect French cuisine, including a famous 'La Cornue' stove (the Rolls Royce of French cooking equipment), microwave, dishwasher (cleverly concealed in an antique hutch), a lovely buffet with marble-topped workspace, and a full complement of utensils, pots, pans, china and glassware. Cable television, DVD and CD player are accompanied by a selection of music and French-themed American movies to complete the ambiance. The lovely shower room features a spacious shower with classic French brass fixtures, crystal sconces and an antique chest/sink. The lavatory is in a separate room, with a unique ship captain's wash basin that complements the nautical theme. There is also a Miele washer/dryer.

You may not want to leave your cozy nest in the mezzanine loft, with a queen sized bed adjacent to an en suite bathroom featuring a wonderful Napoleonic era claw foot tub -- a perfect place to soak after a long day on the cobblestones. It also includes a sink and toilet. Please note that, while adding to the unique charm of this property, the low ceiling in the loft will require ducking for anyone of stature (over 5'5'); the loft is also open to the area below.

With its perfect central location and beautiful interior, updated with modern conveniences, this very special, historic apartment will make your experience in Paris all the more memorable. Juliette is a very special place from which to explore all the best that this magical city has to offer.

Please note: our nightly rate is for up to four guests; there is an additional $25 per night charge for additional guests to cover the cost of additional linens and cleaning. Our cancellation policy is 90 DAYS IN ADVANCE OF OCCUPANCY - VRBO/HomeAway doesn't allow this option in their system, but in our experience, since European travelers normally plan/book their vacations far in advance, this period of time is required in order to re-book our rental. Your 50% deposit (required to reserve dates) is fully refundable up to 90 days before the date you arrive; once the balance is paid the reservation is non-refundable. We will process any deposit refunds outside of the VRBO system. We do recommend trip insurance to protect against any unforeseen circumstances. While you may drop your bags as early as 10 am, check in time is 3 pm if another guest is checking out the morning of your arrival. Check-out is 10 am. Please keep these times in mind when make travel arrangements. We of course do our best to get you in as early as possible, but the only way to guarantee an early check in is to reserve the night prior to arrival.

Please let us know if you have any questions. We would love to welcome you to Juliette!

Utterly charming and well-appointed in central Paris

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent two weeks in Paris--our first time in Paris--staying at this lovely, clean, and charming Juliette apartment. We were amazed that you could hear no street noise at all with the windows closed. The beds were substantial and super comfortable. Lots of outlets for charging camera, etc. Very good water pressure and plenty of hot water in the 3 bathrooms (we used loft bathroom only once--for the great clawfoot tub--so soothing for tired tootsies--just watch your head with ceiling height below five feet, as the picture shows).

The location is more than perfect. Not only can you walk to many top places of interest e.g. Notre Dame), but you could actually never leave the island at all, if you liked, as it has plenty of stores, restaurants, grocery, boulangerie, pattiserie, etc. Of course one MUST leave the island for the Paris experience. The walk to the Pont Marie metro stop on right bank was very convenient. We took the metro frequently...very easy to use.

And the help and support of Michele and David made for an anxiety-free trip...always there to help before and during the trip. We had left a bag of purchases (art and clothes) at a restaurant in the Montmarte and David called them on our behalf to see if was still there more than a day later (when we finally remembered it) and it was! He communicated to them our plan to return the next day to retrieve it. All of Michele's advice is excellent and especially the idea to go to Café St. Regis if you arrive before check in time. Best Eggs Benedict in Paris (probably). We returned for breakfast a few more times (when not getting pastries from one of the three nearby shops).

Two recommendations to pass along--We recommend Les Ombres restaurant--a roof top location with sparkling view of the Eiffel Tower and the sunset and great food. And for the best hot chocolate (in the world, IMHO) go to Angelina's and order the Chocolate Chaud Africain. It is to die for. Flagship store is on Rue de Rivoli near the Louvre, but there is also an Angelina's inside the Louvre, Palace of Versailles, and Galeries Lafayette department store in the Opera district.

We appreciated having a dishwasher and a washer and dryer (two separate appliances) which worked extremely well. The apartment was exactly what we hoped for and more.

Lovely apartment in a great location

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful one-week stay at Juliette. There were many positives: an owner who seems to genuinely care that you have a good time (she left champagne and a birthday card for my daughter); a great, central location; a charming, well-equipped apartment with comfortable beds and nice linens. While it technically could sleep six, it is more appropriate for a couple or a small group like ours--mother, daughter and aunt. The ceiling in the loft area is very low (a few head bumps there despite caution), and we were constantly on guard not to miss the various steps that separate areas of the first floor. It seems like it would be a little risky for an elderly person.

Juliette Review

  • 3 of 5

We had a very nice time in Paris. The location of the Juliette property was great, just what we were hoping for. The apartment was looking a bit tired. We had to have the toilet seat repaired as well as the hook on the bathroom door. Unfortunately for us the dryer had stopped working the week before we arrived so Michelle purchased a drying rack for us to use. It worked well but took over the entire living room when in use. I think the apartment would be better suited for younger people, there are many levels (my husband tripped twice cutting his arms during the night). Also the upstairs bath room doorway opening is quite low and it you don't duck you will hit your head (I am 5'2" and it happened to me a few times). The air conditioner near the door wasn't working a well as it should but luckily for us fans were sufficient. The Juliette was romantic and enchanting looking but these few blips made life a bit challenging.

Owner's Response: We’re terribly disappointed that this guest’s time in Juliette was anything less than perfect. Our goal is a five-star experience, and as you can see from our reviews, that is the norm. Even with a thorough pre-check in walk through however, as in anyone’s home, the unexpected can occur. We can’t promise things won’t happen, but guarantee they will be promptly resolved, as they were in this case - our staff was dispatched immediately to repair the loose hook and toilet seat. Upon discovering that our reliable dryer died after the prior guest checked out, our maintenance team attempted a quick fix; when it didn’t work we immediately ordered a new one, which took a few days to arrive. Since these guests were staying only four nights, our manager offered to personally take their clothes to a local laundry and return them fluffed and folded at our expense. The guest declined, so we purchased a drying rack as they requested. Regarding the apartment’s “many levels” we want people to have a clear picture of Juliette before they book— our listing has a detailed description of exactly what to expect. While we’ve had many senior guests in Juliette without complaint, we clearly state that it may not be ideal for those with mobility issues. Upon entering there is one small step to an area with a desk and bookshelf, then another down into the bedroom. We are very safety conscious so have equipped the stairway to the loft with motion-sensitive lights. While our new AC unit was fully functional, these guests were in Paris during the hottest heat wave on record, so we brought in additional fans to ensure their comfort. It appears a perfect storm of issues made this guest’s stay less than stellar, however as our other reviews attest, “tired” just doesn’t accurately describe Juliette. It’s a recently remodeled 450-year-old property with unbeatable ambiance. We care for it lovingly and it is pristinely clean, comfortable and functional. While inevitable that things will happen, the test of a quality property is how management responds, and I believe that our staff did their very best to ensure this guest’s comfort. We hope you’ll take that responsiveness, as well as our 70+ five star reviews into account when considering Juliette. Feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.

Even more beautiful than the pictures. Superb location. It was the perfect fit for our family!

  • 5 of 5

We were thrilled with this beautiful apartment on the Ile St Louis. It was the perfect fit for our family of 5 with 3 children ages 14, 8 and 6. We could walk almost anywhere we wanted to go. We will miss picking up our daily croissants. The apartment is breathtakingly beautiful and we felt so fortunate to be in such a gorgeous well equipped apartment.

Perfect spot to enjoy Paris

  • 5 of 5

This is a great property and so fun to be in a historic building right in one of th oldest neighborhoods in Paris. Michelle was great and took care of everything we needed. We got great recommendations for food and shopping. It was extremely hot last week when we were there and the air conditioning worked just fine. Great shower and kitchen, very thoughtfully stocked. Really comfortable beds and great antique furniture. There were two of us and I can see how you could have a family but it would be tight. For us it was perfect!

The Place From Which to Visit Paris

  • 5 of 5

A charming apartment in the center of everything -- attractions, transportation, restaurants et al. Michelle Lollo, the property manager, was a terrific hostess - welcoming us, and providing priceless tips on places to go. How to get there and enjoy. Would certainly have Juliette on the top of our list of places to stay in Paris, when we return. Thank you. Merci.
