|Minimum Stay||3 - 7 nights|
A short walk or bike to the beach (10 - 15 minutes at a leisurely pace... you want to be leisurely on your vacation!), we offer privacy and seclusion, facing South toward the breezes and the sound of the surf. Although true to Colonial architectural detail on the outside, the downstairs has an open plan, centering on a wall of glass that opens out onto a porch and steps down onto a brick terrace. The two bedrooms upstairs each have a skylight through which to hear the waves and watch the stars. The cottage has recently been repainted and the floors refinished and we built the most fabu outdoor shower ever!
The owners live on the property, in the adjacent Garage apt. The properties are totally separate = orientation, parking, outdoor living spaces etc... enhanced with fenced screening and lush natural plantings.
Nantucket, a preserved historic town: Nantucket was once the center for whaling in all the world. Hence the fortunes the Ship Captains amassed allowed them to build a beautiful town centered around the harbor and wharves. That town and its buildings remain intact today as they were then thanks to The Historic District Commission. What a beautiful and thriving village... a walk back in time along cobblestone streets.
Nantucket also has a shuttle bus system for travelers and locals alike. The Town shuttle (which runs until 11pm) stop is 1 mile, a fifteen minute walk, from the house... all along the bike path except for the last few hundred yards. The Surfside Beach shuttle is only a few hundred yards from the house, but only runs until 6pm. And you can bike to the shuttle stop if you want to shuttle and bike at other parts of the island...and if you get tired, the bus will bring you and your bike home!
Surfside: Surfside gets its name from the waves and wide beaches along the South shore, perfect for fishing, swimming and sunning. Our house is but a short walk or bike from the beach. There is a pavilion there with showers and restrooms if you desire, and Life Guards are present, as the surf can be big. IF you are adventurous, you can stroll down the beach to a more remote area or even (1/2 mi. down the beach and around toward the west) a nude beach!
Biking: Nantucket has created a wonderful bike path system that one may ride in safety. The Surfside bikepath is only 200 yards from the house and takes one either to the beach, to town, or connects to the Siasconset and Polpis bike paths for trips around the island. Great for strollers, bikes, horses, walking, dogs... anything that is unmotorized. Wide and well maintained.
Let me introduce you to my family. I am Patty. I married Mike in 1990 after meeting here on the island. We bought our land in 1991 and Mike designed and built Dalliance for us the following year.
Patty Kepenash purchased this cottage in 1991
We fell in love with the property the moment we saw it. The location is so perfect - close to the beach, to town, to mid island shopping and to the bike path, yet tucked away on the culdesac and totally private.
One of the unique benefits of our home is that it is near to everything but secluded at the same time. The house is perfectly oriented North/ South, with the outdoor living space to the sunny, breezy south shore. There are lush natural plantings all around it, and no one can see you from the back yard. You can hear the waves pounding and Fiera whinney for breakfast and the faraway summer sound of voices of children playing wafting on the breeze.
Nantucket is a very special place and this is a wonderful, clean home. We could not have been happier with our choice of lodging on the Grey Lady.
Location, location, location...so close to the beach (12 min. walk to Surfside - via a flat, paved bike path). We walked into town via the bike path & it took less than 1/2 hour - really easy (there's even a water fountain on the bike path) and the exercise wasn't bad for us either.
Two large & lovely bedrooms, each with window & skylight that are great for the summer breezes. The downstairs was is comfy and spacious. Loved the fireplace, the wall of french doors and oh yea, if you so desire, central air & heat.
The kitchen is large, open and has plenty of counter space. We enjoyed breakfast on the patio and afternoon tea on the back porch.
There is a wonderful collection of artwork throughout this house, which only added to the warm feel of the home.
In short, we loved the house, loved the location & look forward to returning.
Absolutely the BEST rental property I have ever discovered on Nantucket!
Patty and Mike's home is clean, beautiful, comfortable and the location is terrific.
The outdoor patio and grill lends itself to fabulous summer entertaining. It is a quick trip to any of the beautiful beaches and close to town. A wonderful rental for vacations, weddings etc..I will be back again this summer!!!
We can't say enough about Patty and Mike's vacation home. It was gorgeous and comfortable with everything you could ask for. Patty was an amazing hostess and gave us just the right amount of privacy while making it clear she was available for anything we needed. The outdoor shower was divine. The beach is in walking distance and the sound of the waves can be heard at night through the skylight in the master bedroom. A car is helpful for going into town but there is also a shuttle bus stop within easy walking distance if preferred. We can imagine being regular summer renters and are already looking forward to returning!!
Dalliance is a beautiful home and Patty & Mike are great hosts!
We stayed for a week with our 2 year old son, and everyone enjoyed it. The place is lovely, clean and functional. The outdoor shower is amazing! Our little guy got a thrill out of feeding the horse carrots each day! The photos do not do this place justice!!!
We left our car on the mainland, but Patty was kind enough to pick us up and drop us off again at the ferry. We also appreciated the fact that she was always available via email to answer quick questions or update us on the Mid-Island Market!
Could go on and on, but words (like pictures) won't do Dalliance or its owners justice. We recommend you see it for yourself!
This cottage was even nicer in person than in the pictures. It was very private and quiet with a beautiful porch and backyard. We had breakfast out there every morning. It was so peaceful and relaxing. There is one bathroom and two bedrooms upstairs with very comfortable beds, a queen in one and two single beds in the other. The house was immaculate. And the details that went into the design of the house were simply amazing.
The house is about a 10 to 15 minute walk to the beach, right down Surfside Dr.which is about a block away. Or you can get on a shuttle bus, but we never did after the first time, once we realized how close the beach was. My personal recommendation would be to walk down Surfside, but you can take another path to the beach which lets you out in a less populated section of the shore. But then you are rather far from the bathrooms and concession area. The island is really easy to get around via any of several shuttle buses, but they run somewhat infrequently and, apart from the Surfside bus which also goes to town, they are a bit of a hike to get to. The problem with the Surfside bus is that it only runs until 6PM, as it is intended for the beach goers. If we had to do it again, we would rent bicycles or a scooter. I think a car would be more trouble than it's worth. There's quite a bit of traffic in town during the season.
In town, there are a number of very good restaurants, but nothing really reasonably priced, apart from the sidewalk storefront places. In the "Mid-Island" area, the Seagrill was great, but also pricey.
I cannot say enough good things about the property owners. They were incredibly warm, friendly and helpful. But they also respected our privacy. All in all, you couldn't ask for better hosts.
Staying at this cottage is a slice of heaven to me.
It is situated on a lovely piece of property that feels completely private. You can hear the ocean and it is a mecca for birds and bunnies. I also love the occasional whinny from the lovely horse at the barn nearby.
The house is exceptionally beautiful. Its design is pure Nantucket but with the modern amenities. The craftsmanship is outstanding, everything is so tastefully done and well made. The kitchen is perfectly equipped. It is very clean and filled with light. The house is filled with art by Nantucket artists and has beautiful books that you can read on a rainy day.
I first rented this cottage last summer and could not have imagined a better place for a sabbatical. It is a eight-minute walk to the beach and oasis of calm in the busy summer months. I have rented it again this summer and long to have a place like this in my future. I recommend this cottage highly.
Oh, Nantucket! that wonderful spit of sand that teems with life all the year... summers of sun and art and music, or just quiet contemplation. A haven for artists for over a century, Nantucket boasts some of the worlds best artwork, restaurants and theater as well as many beaches, woodland and moorland walks and is a bird watchers paradise! World class golfing, fishing and whale watching too. Something for everyone!

Best deal on the island - an exceptional value for a simple, elegant and finely appointed vacation home. NOT your usual rental. Check out our reviews. Most of our returning friends decline to review Dalliance because a best kept secret is, well... best kept!
I will send out a simple lease for guests to look at with a payment schedule. All payments refundable up to 60 days prior to rental. After 60 days, only damage deposit and cleaning fee will be returned. However, if I am able to rent the property for the time frame that is canceled, I will return payments made prior to cancellation in full.
