About the property

1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, sleeps 3

Your own island! Who has not dreamed of having one? This little gem of an island can be yours for a week. Little Diamond Island is a 1/4 acre island located in Lake Cobbossee in West Gardiner Maine. Just 20 minutes from the capital city of Augusta you are close to restaurants and shopping but in a setting that is private and close to nature.

Little Diamond Island in Lake Cobbossee is a unique lake front vacation rental. Rustic 3 room cabin with lake views from every window. The lake is just steps away in any direction. Sandy bottom swimming areas and the lake is great for boating, canoeing, kayaking or jet skiing.

Island vacationing is not for everyone. If you love camping (not the same as RV'ing) you will love this. It is a lot like camping except you have a real bed to sleep in. Rustic in nature there is no electricity or running water. We do provide a composting toilet, propane stove, refrigerator and solar campers shower.

This is a peaceful spot for anyone who loves nature. Except for the occasional boat the only sounds you hear are the young osprey begging for food in the nest above the cottage and the mournful cry of the loons as they float past the island. You can see nesting osprey, pileated

Little Diamond Island Shines

My teenage girls and I thoroughly enjoyed our island paradise. The lake views are beautiful; especially the sunsets. Our close Osprey neighbors begun our nature tour that was highlighted with perched eagle taking flight as we paddled near. The cottage was clean and cozy, with an inviting lake breeze throughout the day.

The girls and I agree to make sure we return to this hidden jewel.

We had a wonderful time on Little Diamond Island! It's such a peaceful, relaxing place, and the bird life is a treat to watch.

The cabin is equipped with everything you will need to have a comfortable stay, and with water views from every window, you'll never want to leave!

It was a wonderful little island, and just as described. The cabin is very private, comfortable, and quiet. The the scenery was beautiful, and the water was crystal clear. The nesting birds were also fun to watch. We had a wonderful time, and I'm so glad we did it. Thank you for the unique experience, and the great memories we took with us from this trip.

3rd visit...still wonderful.

  • 5 of 5

This was my 3rd year in a row visiting the island and I have to say that it really is something special. It is by far my favorite place to vacation and I have found myself looking forward to it with eager anticipation each year. So peaceful, private and beautiful. My wife and I spent our 3 day getaway relaxing on the deck as well as spending a great deal of time in the crystal clear water. This cabin is the perfect place to get away from it all without really having to rough it in the woods. To us, it's the best of both worlds and we will definitely try to keep our annual tradition of visiting in tact.

Unique and special

  • 5 of 5

Hm. I almost don't want to tell you all how stunning this place is - I'd like it to be available whenever I want to book! The island is about a 5-minute canoe or kayak ride from shore. Once we pulled up to the dock, I actually gasped at how pretty (and huge) the cabin is. It's full of thoughtfully provided details (pots, pans, batteries, soap - all sorts of stuff you don't have to carry yourself), the bed is comfy, the sun porch turns even a cold and rainy day into a beautiful bit of time with nature. The island is a perfect launching spot to set out to fish or just explore the lake by boat. Nesting birds on the island provide a real-life soap opera you can follow just by keeping your eyes open. It's a wonderful little spot to completely, totally, get away from everyday life (you can still get a cell signal ... but of course you don't need to tell anyone that!)
