A perfect hidden cottage in the heart of Lourmarin

  • 5 of 5

Amelie is all that the prospectus promises and more. Behind a flaking blue wooden door at the end of the main street in Lourmarin is a lovely little courtyard, hidden from the world outside, but just in touch with the sounds and life of this lovely Luberon town. The cottage is perfect for two people – it is a bit like the Tardis; it seems small, but all you need is cunningly tucked away and there is a big welcoming bed and many stylistic touches. There is an excellent restaurant literally on the doorstep and many more within five minute's walk, along with a boulangerie and two small supermarkets, not to mention the magnificent Friday market that almost overwhelms you with its cornucopia of produce. Half day drives will take you through the wonders of the Grand and Petit Luberon villages. Do not miss Oppede le Vieux. Meanwhile Kristine will be a most charming multilingual landlady with a wealth of local information, especially about the best places to eat. There is plenty of parking in the vicinity, but although you are almost in the heart of the town it is a haven of peace.

A Lourmarin Jewel

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I enjoyed our five night stay in la Maison Amelie. Our communication with Kristine was always timely and friendly and her English is excellent. For those of you concerned about parking a rental car away from the house, there is no need to worry as parking in the town center is safe and a very short walk away.

The cottage has a very sensible layout and we had everything we needed. For those of you wishing to spend a pleasant holiday in Provence, I highly recommend a stay in this delightful village. We would gladly book again at la Maison Amelie. Merci beaucoup!

Two wonderful weeks in La Maison Amelie

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent two glorious weeks in La Maison Amelie, a gorgeous little Provençal cottage. The house was ideally located in the centre of Lourmarin, a magical bustling medieval village.

The house was spotlessly clean and well equipped; it was like a home from home. We enjoyed relaxing in the private, shady courtyard; a welcome treat after a day's sight seeing.

The weather was very hot, but the air conditioning helped keep us cool. The kitchen, living area and bathroom are on one level. The large spacious bedroom is downstairs, in the basement of the house, accessed via a little stone staircase. Sometimes it got very hot in the bedroom at night.

Lourmarin is "the prettiest" French village we have ever stayed in. We loved people watching in Cafe Gabby's, strolling along the cobbled streets, exploring all the little shops and eating out. There were so many restaurants to chose from. Our favourite, Nonni's was literally on our doorstep.

We didn't get the chance to meet Kristine and Thierry but Kristine constantly kept in touch with us via email and telephone, checking we had everything we needed. A very attentive hostess who speaks excellent English!

Exquisite Cottage in Lourmarin

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Maison d'Amelie for two weeks in July 2015 and loved it. Everything the other reviewers have said is true. The cottage itself is very well equipped and beautifully presented. The attention to detail is extraordinary. It is as if it has been lifted from the pages of a magazine but it is real and it is a joy to stay there. The courtyard garden is exquisite and very private, and we ate breakfast there every day and dinner when we were home. There weather was extremely hot during our stay but the house remained cool (with the help of the air-conditioning) and the downstairs bedroom was always lovely and cool, so we always slept well.

Kristine and Thierry were very easy to deal with and nothing was too much trouble for them. Kristine was also very helpful with restaurant suggestions, both in Lourmarin and in neighbouring villages, that took us to places we would never have found on our own and we had some memorable meals as a result, and this was our 3rd holiday in Lourmarin. It is such a beautiful village we keep coming back and the Friday markets are probably the best we have experienced anywhere in France - a big call - but they really are very good.

Maison d'Amelie is perfect for couples, and we will happily stay there again when next we return to Lourmarin.

Gorgeous Provence Village Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Everything that the other reviews from September is so true! It was a fabulous week and we loved coming home to "our" garden and cottage after exploring different villages each day. We really felt like locals and Kristine and Terry were great to deal with. Really miss our daily wine/cheese/olives in the garden and early morning trips down the cobblestone street to the baker.

Lovely Cottage in a Perfect Location in Lourmarin

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent a week in Lourmarin in this truly charming and tastefully decorated cottage. The location is right in the village and very close and easily walkable to several delightful cafes, restaurants and a boulangerie. We used Lourmarin as a base, exploring and having lunch in different villages in the Luberon each day and returning to Lourmarin for wine at one of the cafes (Gaby's was our favorite) and dinner at one of the many walkable (from the cottage) local restaurants. Kristine kindly provided us, before our stay, a very detailed list of restaurants in the Luberon villages and throughout Provence as well. She also included excellent recommendations and comments so we could make our reservations well in advance of our visit ,as some of the restaurants (especially local favorites in the Luberon villages) can be difficult to book. In addition, there was a book of recommendations for sightseeing and restaurants put together by Kristine in the cottage and reference travel guides about the area. We thoroughly enjoyed our week at the cottage (and yes, the bed is extremely comfortable). Our travels around the Luberon each day were truly magical and we would recommend Lourmarin as the perfect base for exploring the area. The extra effort and guidance kindly extended by Kristine made our trip perfect. We would love to return to Maison Amelie and look forward to doing so in the near future!
