About Albert Tropea

Captain Albert Tropea, Jr

Once worked with Proctor and Gamble families and the Helene Curtis Company as personal sailing captain. While working in Key Largo with a maintenance company taking care of all hospitality related needs from the homes, to designing landscapes, maintaining yachts, Captain Albert realized that the missing component in vacations in the Florida Keys was the boatel or boat and breakfast style of adventure vacations. Captain Albert decided to bring the experiences he had with the very wealthy to the hard working families who longed for the sailing experience with their spouses, friends or families. Captain Albert has sailed all over the world from being a Everglades then Bahamas Guide,to sailing the Greek Islands and a number of foreign countries. Let Captain Albert or his hand picked captains and trained mates show you the wonders of what makes the area around the Florida Keys so unique. Our captains know many places that the big 40 plus person boats cannot get to and do not know about. Sail with a crew attending your needs, feel free to be involved with sailing or lifting the sails. It is the goal of the Company to have you experience direct contact with the wind, the sails and the sea with confidence if you one day want to buy your own boat. Feel like you own the boat by telling our crew what you wish to have for an experience whether it is more swim/snorkeling, fishing, sailing. You are the one in charge as if you own the sailboat.

Albert Tropea purchased this boat in 1995

Why Albert Tropea chose Key West

Key West boasts over three million visitors a year and for good reason. All year round the temperatures are milder than anywhere else even in the summer. Winter is non existent; come down and thaw out with us for your winter retreat. There are only a few days in January where the chill in the air will be down to a low of 45 for night time temperatures, high of 65 only a few days in January the rest of the year is spring like temperatures. Even the summers the highs are rarely above 92 degrees and nights and ocean breezes keep it mild at nights. 'Gonna go where the sun keeps shining, through the pouring rain' was a line from the song written about Key West! Bring your summer dream weddings and honeymoon plans to us and we help you design a special memory. Key Wes is second only to Las Vegas for easy relaxed weddings in a variety of settings especially on board your own sailing vessel, married next to a famous Key West Sunset. Since it takes from 17 to 25 years to get one of the coveted Key West Bight docks, we just recently added a third boat after waiting almost 20 years. It is well worth the wait, with a short three block stroll to Mallory Square nightly art festival and the famous bars and restaurants along the Duval Street district. There are museums and other attractions close by and the Ft. Meyers Ferry Boat is just a few yards from our E Dock behind the Wyland Murial at 201 William. The Historic Seaport has shopping along the board walk with many restaurants to choose from. Still funky and fun, Schooner Wharf Bar, Turtel Kraals and many old local's favorites still at historic seaport after many years with live music all the time. Restaurant near the Ferry boat has live music, outdoor dining and you are welcome to use the pool when you purchase your lunch or drinks with them like many pools in town. So much to do and see, park your car and bike or walk almost everywhere. Or take a taxi from the airport. Enjoy a simpler life Key West living.

What makes this boat unique

Unique benefits to staying aboard a sailing vessel is to enjoy the life on the waterfront in the Historic Seaport once known for fishing, conch farming and shrimp or lobster fishermen. Feel like you own the boat you stay aboard and then go sailing for your stay aboard and sail charter or choose to take off completely away from it all for as many days you wish to charter with meals and crew providing everything you need. It's your dream, why not live it out this time? You can stay in a hotel or bed and breakfast room anywhere any time; have it all old Key West style and feel like an explorer with family and friends or that significant other. Weather is usually mild no matter what time of the year. Sailing with our crew is safe, learn a few sailing tips, see wild life like dolphins, fish and sea turtles in their natural habitat. Relaxed style of vacationing, pack light, sandals, shorts and swim wear and a few t shirts; bring a light jacket and a pair of casual long pants for nights or when at sea. Bring a pair of good walking shoes, no need to bring heels as you will want to explore and walk as much as you feel comfortable to see the nuances of Key West. While at sea 24 hours, we provide meals and non alcohol drinks of course, with snorkel gear and fishing gear, no need to pack these items. When you take the helm once the captain gets you safely out of the harbor and sets a course, the feeling of adventure will sweep you away. Low tech environment, great for families to take a break from electronics even if for one day, there is so much to see at sea! Earn a 2 hour sunset sail for 2 nights stay at the docks for example. When you watch the sails unfurl, the feeling of exhilaration is exciting and deeply satisfying while living a lifestyle vacation for your special Key West vacation. The weather is usually ideal whether the weather is cold or hot where you are, it is perfect most days in Key West. Call and customize your special destination vacation

Best time ever in Key West after 40 years of visiting Key West

  • 5 of 5

I am a vistor of the Keys for more than 40 years and staying with KW Sailing Adventure is the best. You get the best of everthing Key West and it´s surrounding seas have to offer. Old Town Key West, the Hemingway house, the Mel Fisher museum, the Aquarium, the arquitecture, the ambiance, Historical bars and eateries, great shopping and Maollory Docks with it´s sunset show. And this is just the beginning. You get to enjoy the real reason we come to the Keys, the ocean. You get to enjoy the true wonder of the keys on and below the sea, sleep under the stars, eat FRESH seafood with pampering second to none. I will not stay anywhere else.

Staying on a sailboat is a great option!

  • 5 of 5

We very much enjoyed our trip to Key West. Wild Thing is a great 44' Morgan. Pictures represent well. It is not fancy, but comfortable and nice. Having access to the private marina guest facilities is an added plus. Captain Albert and his first mate, Nicole, were helpful and knowledgeable. We had a great 1/2 day sail with them and enjoyed their company.

This area is very convenient as you can walk everywhere. New noise ordinances allow the marina to be quiet and peaceful in the evenings.

This is the way to do Key West!!!!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I decided to do a last minute getaway, for a long weekend. Captain Albert was a pleasure to work with right from the beginning. His crew was unbelievable as well.

If you are looking for a relaxing stay, this is the place for you. The boat was clean and plenty of room. We even had friends meet us from Miami and they had plenty of room as well.

Thanks for a great, memorable getaway!

Sailboat Living

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent 5 nights on Wild Thing using her as a base to explore Key West. Situated in the middle of everything, we were able to walk to different areas of interest. The boat was very comfortable and we enjoyed just sitting and watching people. We had a beautiful sail with Tyler and Leilani, our excellent crew. Captain Albert and Mate Ronda were just delightful. Very knowledgeable about the area and gave us excellent recommendations.

Fantastic Experience in Key West

  • 5 of 5

If you are trying to decide if you should book with Captain Albert for the Wild Thing in Key West - DO IT! My co-workers and I were in Florida for work; we had the weekend off and wanted to venture to Key West. We decided on the sailboat instead of a hotel and we are so glad that we did!

We had a sunset sail on Friday night with Captain Albert which was fantastic. His wife Rhonda sent along a fruit tray for us to enjoy which was such a nice touch! We added on a half day sail on Saturday and went snorkeling. Captain Victor and First Mate Saunders took us out to a quiet reef where we were the only swimmers and we saw amazing sea life! They couldn't have been more accommodating for the experience. It was so enjoyable and memorable!

The boat itself is clean and comfortable. If you like camping you will like staying on a sailboat. But it's even better - because there is air conditioning! The boat is parked central in the marina near the showers and restrooms, which you are given a key to access. There is also laundry in there, just in case.

And where the marina is - is right in the heart of everything in Key West. Tons of restaurants and bars right there, grocery stores, shops, and coffee shops, can walk to Duvall Street...we didn't use the car all weekend. We walked everywhere we wanted to go - even a place that we rented motor scooters and scooted around the island.

We have not stopped talking about our time in Key West, and all of our interactions with Captain Albert and Key West Sailing Adventure. We would absolutely do this again. Thank you to Albert, Rhonda, Victor, Saunders - it was fantastic!

Just Book It! We Are Glad We Did!!!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed on Wild Thing for three nights. It was fantastic. Air conditioning and master cabin bed made the stay very comfortable. The location could not be beat and the marina was very quiet and mostly very private. We loved every minute of it. Short walking distance to everything and anything you need. The day long sail was absolutely beautiful and the captain and first mate made sure we had a nice time. If you are thinking about this as an option to a hotel room or rental property, I highly suggest it.
