Downeast Maine Oceanfront Cabin near Acadia National Park - Sept 2-9 Open!

Bedrooms 2
Half Baths1
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

Cabin, 2+ Bedrooms , 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 4-5)

The week of September 2nd-9th is still open! Seaside cabin on the Schoodic Peninsula located within 60 feet of the ocean. Newly updated throughout. Hear the waves lap along the granite shore, feel the ocean breeze, see the Sally Islands off in the distance. At night you can see the flashing light of Petit Manan Lighthouse, Maine's second tallest light, built before the Civil War on a rock ledge two miles out to to sea.

The ocean view faces east across the water so the sunrises and moon rises are spectacular. See shore birds, marine life, and hear the loons call. Lobster boats work the area so you can watch them work from the front deck or along the shore.

The property is nicely wooded and you will have a private setting. Neighboring homes are shielded from view by a beautiful arbor of spruce, balsam, pine, etc. The shoreline is a combination of granite boulders and ledge rock. The water is deep, keeping a beautiful water view which is not affected by the twice daily Maine tide.

The cabin is a classic example of Maine craftsmanship. The interior is pine tongue and groove on the walls and the ceilings on both levels. The first floor living area has a pine plank floor. The second level structure has exposed wood beams and floor planking. The cabin has wifi internet.

Level One includes a dining area and living area with a granite wood-burning fireplace. There is a new, comfortable sofa and chair/ottoman. Also on this level is a full bath and a generous sized newly updated Kitchen with stainless steel appliances, granite counter tops, and all the dishes and utensils you need. Level Two has a front master bedroom with full bed and a balcony that looks out over the ocean and out to the distant flashing lighthouse. The back bedroom has a pine bunk bed with a full size mattress on bottom and a single on top. There is also another single daybed in an adjacent sitting room. A new half bath separates the front and back bedrooms. All these rooms have pine plank ceilings and pine plank walls, new carpeting, and tile.

Walk or bike a couple miles to Corea Harbor, one of Maine's most picturesque working harbors. There you will find the Lobster Co-op where you can buy fresh lobsters directly from the fishermen.

Down the road are the pretty communities of Prospect Harbor and Winter Harbor with many services, restaurants, and shopping. Winter Harbor is the gateway to the Beautiful Acadia National Park - Schoodic Peninsula Section, where you can enjoy strolling the spectacular craggy coast, hike Schoodic's hills, or bike beautiful trails. You can also take the mail boat across Frenchman's Bay from Winter Harbor to Bar Harbor, or take the easy drive from Schoodic Peninsula to Mount Desert Island.

The quintessential Schoodic Area is one peninsula 'Downeast' from the more crowded Bar Harbor area and Mount Desert Island.

The pictures don't lie!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a lovely stay at this peaceful home. The pictures are not in the least deceptive. It really is that close to the ocean! We heard maybe two cars a day. Otherwise, the only manmade sound we heard were the lobster boats out on the bay. We could even hear the lobstermen talking on the boats! The neighbors homes are close, but you don't see them because the trees hide them and we really didn't hear the neighbors at all while we were there. The full kitchen is awesome and so easy to prepare meals in! There is plenty of outdoor seating and it's very easy to spend the day just watching the ocean. Chaise lounges would be a welcome addition to the outdoor seating because it's an ideal setting to nap and relax the day away. The house was clean and welcoming and had everything we needed. Check your cell coverage before you arrive because there is no landline or internet, so if you have no cell reception(like us) you may want to buy an inexpensive Tracfone just for emergencies. We have rented a lot of homes in a lot of places but have never, ever stayed in one that we would consider returning to, until now. We are hopeful that we will return to this clean, quiet, peaceful location again.

Owner's Response: Cabin owner has Verizon cell coverage and can get emails, texts and phone calls easily at the cabin on smartphone. Verizon recently installed an upgraded cell tower on Schoodic Peninsula that has improved coverage.

This was our second visit to this beautiful Downeast cottage and the quiet and mesmerizing area of Schoodic Peninsula. We were here in June 2013 during the same week. The cottage is spectacular, very welcoming, very warm and comfortable, and it has everything you could possibly need; if it is not there, you don't need it! The owner, Bob, provides so much information about the area, you do not have to spend any time researching for yourself. His restaurant suggestions, activities available, etc. are right on. We have not been disappointed yet! The weather was perfect the whole week. We saw the most amazing sunrises and the moon was incredible each night. It is totally etched on our mind! Schoodic Point is relaxing and takes away all the stress you may have come with. Sitting on the deck at the cottage does the same thing! My husband and I totally recommend this cottage and definitely salute it with five stars. We would give it double that if available! We celebrated the perfect vacation, both stress-free and peaceful in Downeast Acadia. We cannot wait to return to our little piece of paradise!

Beautiful and restful!

  • 5 of 5

We had a delightful relaxing week. Cottage was exactly as advertised, comfortable and quiet. The fact that we didn't have good cell phone coverage nor Internet was a plus from our point of view! Spent a lot of time loafing in the Adirondack chairs staring at the Bay! Enjoyed exploring the area- Petit Manaan National Wildlife Refuge and Corea Health Preserve have great hiking trails. Every random roadside stand has fabulous chowders and lobster rolls. Bought the best blueberry pie we'd ever eaten from some guy selling pies out of the back of his car. Drove over to Mount Desert Island one day; enjoyed the view from Cadillac Mountain and some of the carriage trails but hated the crowds over there. Ultimately we were happy with our choice to stay in the more off-the-beaten-track location on Schoodic.

A perfect vacation

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this beautiful cabin the week of August 29th-September 5th 2015. Every bit of our stay was truly wonderful, we could not have asked for more. This cabin is even more beautiful in person, just steps from the water. The rocky beach was perfect for our young children to explore the tide pools and find sea life everyday. We enjoyed watching the lobster boats every morning while having coffee on either of the two decks, the moonlight on the water in the evenings, campfires, and watching the lighthouse flicker in the distance....just perfection. There is no better location than this. Bob was so kind, welcoming and accommodating. It was so helpful when he sent a map of the area before our arrival, taking the time to suggest certain points of interest to visit. This was our first time visiting the area and we would have never known where to start there is so much to see and do! There is also a journal for visitors to write in. Our first night we had a great time reading what past guests wrote. This gave us direction with what to see and do too! Bar Harbor and the main part of Acadia is about a 45 minute drive. We spent two days exploring that area. It was beautiful, but we truly enjoyed the quiet and seclusion of the Schoodic side of Acadia and beautiful Corea, Winter Harbor and Birch Harbor. It was like finding a hidden gem, with all the beauty you can imagine, but without the crowds. Everything is taken care of here for you as a guest. I highly recommend staying here, especially if you are looking for a relaxing, peaceful place to unwind. You will not be disappointed. Our expectations were far exceeded, and we simply cannot wait to come back!

Escape the summer throng - secluded and peaceful

  • 5 of 5

Our first stay - 8/1/2015 to 8/8/2015. We had a wonderful time and enjoyed staying so close to the water. Sunrise is spectacular from the MBR and dining/living room! Same for moonrise. Very peaceful and quiet and in close proximity to Schoodic Peninsula which is always enchanting. The best part about this hideaway gem is, being in close to the fishing village of Corea, ME, it is a world away from the crowds in Bar Harbor - which is only a 30 minute drive south. We had many delightful days exploring Corea, Birch Harbor, and Winter Harbor, as well as a day junket north to Lubec and Campbello Island in Canada. Very private venue!

This property has a rock ledge frontage with deep water so the rise and fall of the tide will not affect the beautiful water view. There is a distant view of Petit Manan Lighthouse, Maine's second tallest, which flashes beautifully across the ocean at night. The Schoodic Section of Acadia National Park is about 8 miles away with unique and beautiful oceanfront, biking and hiking. The Schoodic Peninsula also includes three of Maine's most picturesque working harbors: Winter Harbor, Prospect Harbor, and Corea Harbor. Corea Harbor also has a lobster fisherman's cooperative only a couple miles from the cabin that sells to the public fresh lobsters daily at wholesale prices. Bike/kayak rentals and restaurants are close by.
