Enjoy your vacation at the beautiful and tranquil Pohailani Resort in Kahana. Located on Maui’s famed Westside you will be close to sandy Kahana Beach, shopping and restaurants. Lush tropical landscaping surrounds 2 pools, several barbeque areas, laundry facilities and a tennis/basketball court. Kana’apali Beach is 5 minutes away and Lahaina Town is just 10 minutes away, by car or public transit. Just some of the many reasons why Pohailani Resort is so popular with residents and visitors alike. The moment you arrive on Maui you will realize why you came. The warm feeling of tropical breezes and the famous warm Maui sunshine will make you feel that coming to Kahana is the best vacation decision you could have ever made. The Kahana area is on the west side of Maui just north of historical Lahaina. Our complex is very large and extends right up to the ocean. Most of the units are arranged around the the outside of the grounds, and the large interior grounds have with lots of trees, grass, and lush vegetation in a park-like setting. The pools and BBQ areas are all on the inside area. The ocean is just a few steps away from our unit. You can access the sandy part of the beach just a few minutes north or south of our unit. Kahana beach usually has calm seas and good snorkeling. The lagoon/inner-reef directly in front of the complex is a wonderful place to explore. If you do not have snorkeling or diving gear, it can be rented at Maui Dive shop or Boss Frog's which are both just a 1 minute walk.. The Kahana Gateway Shopping Center is only a 1 minute walk away. There you will find restaurants, banks, gas station, a coffee shop/internet café, McDs, and shops providing locally-made and imported items. Just a short distance (1 minute walk) down Lower Honoapiilani Road is the Valley Isle Resort. Of course there are so many other places and beaches close by that you will also want to explore. Whalers Village and the Ka’anapali beach area is just a 5 minute drive, and the he shops and galleries of Lahaina Town are just a 10 minute drive. The Cannery Mall with a huge Safeway, Longs Drugs, Starbuck and lots of shops is just a 7 minute drive.

Pohailani 221 is a 2 bedroom and 1 bathroom 2nd floor duplex unit with loft that comfortably sleeps 6. The master bedroom has a queen bed and shoji doors that open to the main living area that has a queen pullout sofa. The second bedroom has a twin bed, pull-out single, and a bunk bed. There is also a loft that fits a double folding mattress bed that is accessible by ladder and great for kids of all ages! There is cable TV in the living room. Vaulted ceilings and ceiling fans throughout contribute to the airy tropical feel of this unit. A large covered lanai overlooks the smaller of the two pools and provides dining for four. Perfect for a relaxing cocktail while keeping a close eye on the kids in the pool!

The fully equipped kitchen has charming Balinese cabinets, stainless steel countertops and updated appliances. A three person kitchen bar provides another dining area and a way to interact with the cook and contributes to the open layout of the condo.

  • The master bedroom has a queen bed and shoji doors that open to the main living area that has a queen pullout sofa. There is also a loft that fits a portable folding mattress that is accessible by ladder and great for kids of all ages! The folding double mattress in the unit can be put in the loft or wherever you want.

The ocean is just a few steps away (89 adult steps to be exact). One way to access the sandy part of Kahana is through the Valley Isle resort just a few minutes walk to the south. The beach (Kahana1 and Kahana2) gets wider as you go farther to the left (south) and there is a public access path just south of the Kahana Sands hotel. Kahana beach is usually a calm beach and it has good snorkeling. If you walk north from our unit about 100 yards along Lower Honoapiilani Road next to the Kahana Village complex, there is public shoreline access (ShoreLine1, ShoreLine2) to a very nice very flat water beach. We like this the best. There is also a really nice untouched little beach (LittleBeach1, LittleBeach2) just off the road a little north from there. The famous Kapalua Beach (Kapalua1, Kapalua2)area is just 3 minutes drive north just next to the SeaHouse Restaurant. There is lots of free parking, washrooms, and a nice strip of grass with palm trees for shade above the beach. The trail along

Perfect for our family!

This place worked perfectly for our family! Convenient location, close to nice beaches, and 10 min to Lahaina. We really appreciated all of the extras in the unit. The pack-n-play and high chair came in handy for our one year old and our other three kids took advantage of the body board and snorkeling gear! Plenty of room for everyone to sleep. Really nice place to come back to after exploring the island. Parking spot was a little tight but it was so nice to be able to park right next to the unit when hauling up groceries or gear. Loved how private the lanai felt with all the tropical plants and trees. Did make it difficult to sit out and watch the kids in the pool, but the pool was pretty cold anyway so we just usually hit the beach instead. The unit was very clean but did have some minor wear and tear (i.e. no fridge handle) but overall price was great, unit had everything we needed and the location was good. Really glad we found this place.

Beds lack proper mattresses, loft not usable as a bed. Not worth it!

Queen bed in master & twin in 2nd bedroom both have old, thin foam mattresses that are sunken in the middle. No support at all! I was in so much pain after trying to sleep on it for the 4 night stay. The only beds with a proper mattress are the twin bunk beds. Loft only had pillows on it, it can't even be counted as a bed in my opinion. Also, there are no glass windows, only plantation shutters. So you hear everyone outside all night, including the busy street the unit faces. "Beach" across the street from unit is a tiny strip of sand covered in beach bags to prevent erosion. We drove to a different beach every day. Unit pool was so chlorinated my kids couldn't swim in it. Only 1 beach chair in unit, it's not going to last long. Kitchen & bathroom had all the essentials, which really was the only plus. Will not stay here again. Spend a bit more & sleep comfortably elsewhere.

Owner's Response: We are very sorry that your stay in our unit was not up to your expectations. It sounds that the most upsetting part was issues with the mattresses. We understand that everybody has their own preference on the softness of the mattress. Our mattresses are standard Ikea mattresses, and they are medium firm. Most of our guests are happy with the mattresses, but I guess some people with back issues may dislike the firmness. If you had any concerns or special needs, we are always available to answer your questions prior to the stay. You also mentioned that the loft is not a bed and not suitable for sleeping. We advertise our unit for 6 guests only. We have a queen bed in one of the bedrooms, a bunk bed (2 beds) with brand new mattresses, a single bed plus the loft in the second bedroom. We also have an unfolding double sofa bed in the living room. Technically, we have 7 sleeping places PLUS loft. Usually the loft is used by kids to play or sleep, but they do not have to use it because THERE ARE OTHER BEDS. In regards to finding beaches near the unit, we have Kahana beach right across from our unit. You can choose to walk a few minutes to the left of our unit to get to the wider section of Kahana beach, or go north a few minutes walk from the unit to get to a very secluded beach. Personally, I prefer the secluded beach. If the tide is high and it is taking over a large portion of the sand, we recommend going to the famous larger beaches like Kanaapali or Napilii. We have multiple beaches just a 5 min drive from the property. Regarding chlorine in the pool, I am not sure why would you be surprised to find chlorine in the pool. It would not be healthy for your kids without chlorine in the pool and i believe it is required by law for the Condo Association. Maui is a tropical place with endless bacteria thriving in hot climate. The management uses professional company to maintain both pools daily. If chlorine is an issue, the ocean is just few minutes away. Our unit is a typical Hawaiian bungalow with window shutters. Most people appreciate the Hawaiian flavor of the house and the ocean breeze coming through the shutters, but some prefer a modern hotel room. There is no right or wrong. We are not a 5 star hotel, it is our vacation home which we share with other guests. We appreciate all your comments, but we also expect that the guests read all information provided on our website, ask additional questions and make the right choice for their accommodation.

This was great accommodation for our family of five.

What we liked:

-nice location close to great snorkeling beaches and also a quick drive into Lahaina

-lower Honopilani Road is a beautiful place to run in the morning

-kitchen is well equipped

-lanai is very private and a nice place for morning coffee as well as for dinner

-the gardens around the condo are very well established so filled with beautiful bird sounds

-geckos!!! :) lots of them in the grass around the pool area

-had no problems with sleeping arrangements boys are 11, 15 & 18 so two beds and loft in the 2nd bedroom worked well for them

-wifi available

-liked the cottage feel to the condo, very homey and laid back

-very quiet complex

-condo was very clean

What we didn't like so much:

-lockbox was hard to figure it out the first time, especially when tired from travelling. Once you figure the trick of it out it is fine though.

-Barbecue area is dark, would be nice to have some kind of light there but that is probably not something in the owners control
