About owner/property manager
After 10 years together we eventually married on New Years Eve 2003. As we had sold our schools equipment mail order business we travelled the world on many different types of holiday. Eventually, in 2007, we arrived in the Calvados Region of Normandy near a delightful market town of Vire. We were so struck by the area that we spent a day of the holiday with real estate agents! La Pelviniere is a 300 year old, stone, thatched cottage that was in need a a little TLC!! We spent the next 18 months completely renovating it to a very high standard to highlight the original wood and stone features whilst ensuring that it benefited from all modern fixtures, furnishing and comforts demanded by todays travellers. We hope you like it. Stephen & Eileen Plummer, Ashby, Leicestershire, England

Why owner/property manager chose Champ-du-Boult
On our first visit to the area we were struck by the quiet, unhurried and calm atmosphere and were overwhemed by the friendly welcome we got from the French. This area was badly affected in World War 2 and there is still a deep affection for the Allied forces for the liberation and the sacrifices they made. The region boasts a wealth of fine restaurants, mostly family run, where the food is prepared from first principles at very reasonable prices. If you want to leave behind the stresses of modern day living for a quiet and peaceful location then this is the place for you. Within 5 miles the market town of Vire offers all facilities with every shop you could possibly need and a bustling market each week. For more local involvement the village of Champ du Boult is only 1 mile from the cottage and there you can get fresh bread and cakes baked on the premises or have a drink at the local bar. This is why we chose the property!
What makes this Cottage unique
The location is ideally placed(3 miles) near a lake(fishing)and a superb 18 hole golf course. The countryside is ideal for walking. Our friendly French neighbours run a small farm and the fresh eggs are to die for! The Housekeeper lives nearby and is English so language is not a problem and she is happy to answer any queries you may have.

A lovely place to stay
A very comfortable modernised cottage with everything you could possibly need. Lots of history to experience in a very French non touristy area, and within easy reach of the channel ports. Very pretty scenery with lovely walks and some wonderful medieval towns and villages. A very friendly bar in the local village. Perfect.
Thank you Sue and glad you enjoyed your stay. We have furnished the house as our own rather than just a rental and tried to think of everything you might need.
Hope to see you again

Ideal "hub" for visiting Normandy
This is the real thing. It is as advertised. Wonderfully comfortable, centrally located for visits to all of the "tourist" locations of Normandy, yet situated near Vire, a non-tourist town in which we felt quite at home. Merchants were friendly, food was good, and since the cottage does not have WiFi we made a daily stop at a bar named "Gambrinus" in Vire to acquire some refreshment and logon to the internet. After two days of visiting Gambrinus we were taken to be regulars. Very welcoming.
The owners have restored the cottage to a very high standard (showers are more advanced than we have in our own home). If anyone I know plans a holiday in Normandy, I will STRONGLY urge them to consider La Pelviniere.
Many thanks Anthony for your kind comments and glad you enjoyed your stay. We hope you enjoyed the rest of your tour as much and returned safely home

This home is a must!
We were a family of 7 - including 3 grandchildren- and we loved La Pelvinière. The pictures do not do it justice. It is a BEAUTIFUL home that has been decorated with great taste and furnished to meet the needs of anyone using the home. Stephen & Eileen have equipped it with everything that will make your stay most pleasant. You are greeted with a basket of fruit and a few essential needs -e.g. butter, bread. The home is spotless. Stephen's suggestions were spot on and very helpful. Be careful of Villedieu les Poeles if you like copper cookware. You'll end up buying out the stores. Vire is centrally located so that visits to the Normandy Beaches, Bayeux, Avranches, Mont St. Michel are not impossible - you just need to allow adequate time - generally one day. There is just so much to see and do. We did not try the restaurants because we love to cook so we took advantage of the great kitchen and local produce. We can't imagine anyone being disappointed in this rental. The GPS was most helpful in finding Champs de Boult and in getting around. I would highly recommend having one.
Many thanks for your kind comments and we are so pleased you enjoyed your holiday. Thank you for being so pleasant to deal with and we hope to see you again. If you ever come to the UK please call and perhaps we could meet up.

June 2011 The Hofers
What an exceptional experience! We loved this 'cottage' ... and would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who enjoys experiencing 'the real France'! The cottage was LOVELY! Clean and new! We used it as our home base during our BUSY day trip schedule which included Caen, DDay Beaches, Bayeaux, Mt St Michel, St Malo, Chartres, ETC! There was a lot to see! Our hosts were very accommodating ....
we will likely visit again! The Hofers - Chicago and Toronto
highly recommend
My family (wife and 3 boys) had a great time. The house was a wonderful experience . Gave us a real appreciation for the French countryside with the neighbors rooster, cows and horses. Since the kids were studying WW2 , we visited the Normandy coast with the 35 yr celebration. We also enjoyed a great restaurant about a half hour away in the farm fields which was fabulous ( cant remember the name). There are incredible places to drive to all within one hour.
The house was clean , recently remodeled, beds were very comfortable. My only recommendation is to dehumidify the house before visitors arrive. It rained several days and the house was pretty humid. thanks again for letting use your cottage.
This sums up why we bought the house after staying in the area with lots to do and great French Food at reasonable prices at small local friendly restaurants. After 18 months complete renovation(remodelling?) we are glad you enjoyed it.Unfortunately we cannot control the weather but turn the heating up and the cottage is warm and cosy especially with the log fire roaring!
