SeaSpray Cottage is the quintessential 50's beach cabin! Whether you seek a family vacation cottage or a cozy romantic getaway cottage for two, SeaSpray is the perfect vacation cottage from which to explore and experience the beauty of Lopez Island, a jewel of the San Juan Islands. Known as the 'Friendly Isle', it is a haven for bicycling, kayaking, gentle hiking, beachcombing and beautiful views of the San Juan Islands and Olympic Mountains. Lopez Island is peaceful and quiet.
SeaSpray Cottage is 30 feet from the natural rock steps down onto our private, no-bank beach on Davis Bay. Launch your own kayak from the shore, fly kites with the kids, picnic on the sand or take your family for a bicycle tour of rolling farmlands and gentle fields. Your family can walk along the trails at Iceberg Point, explore Shark's Reef, play at Spencer Spit State Park or Watmough Bay.
SeaSpray has just been completely 'refreshed' inside during the spring of 2012. With the walls whitewashed, new plush carpet underfoot, new lighting and many new touches throughout, the cottage is every bit as original 50's and charming as ever, but fresh and bright and ready to delight you.
SeaSpray's living room is perfect for spending time together; relaxing in front of the wood stove, reading or watching the water just out the windows that stretch across the front of the cottage. Move onto the Sun Porch, even closer to the beach and listen to the waves and the grumbling sea lions. There is a large dining table here for your evening meals. The kitchen is small but fully equipped for family style cooking. Plenty of dishes, glassware and cookware are provided for your use. You will also find a microwave, coffee maker, toaster, full set of kitchen knives and a hand mixer. The kitchen is open to the living room, across the breakfast counter, which will seat four. Along the eastern picture window off the kitchen sits a breakfast table for two more people.
The Master bedroom is on the ocean side of the cottage and has a double bed. From here a sliding glass door opens onto the Sun Porch so the breeze and water sounds will find you while sleeping. The kids will enjoy the cozy, built in 'cabin style' lower bunks in the garden side bedroom. The upper level of the bunk beds are cozy reading nooks for the kids. Brightly colored headlamps await to make the reading bright and fun. We have provided fine quality cotton linens for all the beds and fluffy towels for after your showers. The bathroom has been freshly painted and the shower surround tiled, adding another sparkle to the cottage. Beach towels will accompany you to the shore for your adventures there.
It may look small, but SeaSpray Cottage has been a cozy, comfortable year round residence that is big on making memories for families! Whether in winter, summer, spring or fall there is no better spot for a getaway. Come be our guest at SeaSpray!

Lopez Island has long been our favorite place in the San Juan Islands! We jumped at the chance to take care of and share this magnificent spot on the sunny, south shore of Davis Bay. It is our dream come true!
The Owner purchased this cottage in 2008
We loved the sunny, expansive view of the sea framed by the Olympic Mountains and we love being right on the beach. We wanted to have our grown kids bring their children here, where they can make memories together. We watch eagles, deer, geese, otters, seals and sealions play at the water's edge.
Unique to our property is the easy access to the beach. We can walk our kayaks to the water from our yard! We have beautiful gardens, a wide grassy lawn where kids can play badmiton and chase eachother in big circles. It's the best vacation spot we could ever imagine.
Lanie & Michelle,
Thank you so much for your over the top hospitality and for sharing this heavenly location. We all wish we scheduled more time to be here and hopefully will visit again soon!
Thanx sooohhh much!! Will look forward to a future lengthier stay - very soothing! Your rhubarb crisp rocks!

The moment you step on the ferry and head into the nether-world of green, misty islands you know you are leaving the real world behind. So ethereal and beautiful!
I think Sea Spray is the first home out of the many I have vacationed in that exceeds expectations on all levels.
The home is more private and tasteful than the pictures indicate. There are three different living areas so you can have your own space to hang out if you wish. I'm a cook and gave the small kitchen several workouts and it proved adequate on all fronts. Plus the view while you are searing the salmon! The long screened porch along the rear of the cottage is exceptional. While eating our breakfast or dinner out there we couldn't believe how lucky we were to have such a view. Though there are a handful of other homes on Davis Bay, never in 11 days did we see another person on the beach. There is another home available for rental on the property as well, but it is far enough away that you wouldn't hear them if they were out on their patio and you would need binoculars to see in windows. Speaking of that property, if you have a larger family or group of friends, getting both homes would be the way to do it. I won't go into all of the things to do/see on Lopez or the other islands, as they have been covered extensively by other reviewers. Just know everything you have read won't prepare you for the peace and beauty of this place.
The owners were another unexpected pleasure, though they were generally only around on the weekends. They are world adventurers who delight in sharing their garden bounties, surprising you with homemade goodies, answering all questions re Lopez/San Juans, and just making your trip more special, easy and interesting.
For the opportunity to reconnect with your loved ones and nature, you can't go wrong with Sea Spray cottage!
This was our third year in this wonderful cottage. We adore our hosts, and have fallen in love with Lopez. If we have our way, we will be fortunate enough to return many more times. The hiking is wonderful. This year we were graced with spectacular sightings of Mt. Rainier (from our kayak), Mt. Baker (from Iceberg Point), and the Olympics (from the front porch). We saw river otters fishing, and every evening the salmon were jumping so close to shore that several other guests caught salmon casting from the beach. The garden provided bountiful produce including the most spectacular tomatoes. We are very grateful to know this place and these folks.
We were looking for a place to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary and Sea Spray Cottage appealed to us because it's right on the water. The enclosed sun deck runs the entire water side of the cottage, which is a great place to just "hang out." We rented kayaks, explored the shore coves and found the seals as curious of us, as we were of them. Another nice thing about the cottage, is biking on the quiet roads and meeting all the friendly people. We took a day trip to San Juan island, which is free for walk-ons and bikes. We took the transit van to Lime Kiln park and were excited to see a parade of orcas. Our most favorite part was falling asleep and waking to the waves. The only problem was we only stayed 4 nights and wished we had more time.
We stay at either the SeaSpray or the adjacent Wildwood Cottage, both managed by wonderful owners Michelle and Lanie. The hospitality, home comfort and views are second to none. Our family of five always looks forward to coming back each summer. We load up the Kayak, bikes and tennis racquets. My wife and daughter comb the beach daily for sea glass and agates. The fresh farm food, local meats and Saturday market are the best. At night we star gaze, read or play cards. It is simply a slice of heaven.
The SeaSpray Cottage is an annual pilgrimage for us now. This year we stayed for two full weeks, and I mean FULL. Full of breathtaking beauty, relaxation, kayaking, cooking, biking, reading, and writing. My wife and I are both writers and we use this place and time to recharge and produce work. While there, I posted this on Facebook: "This is how mornings go on Lopez Island. You wake up and drink coffee in bed while looking out at the geese and seals swimming in Davis Bay, the scantly snowcapped Olympic Mountains in the distance. Then you write. You write until you're hungry. You're always ravenous this close to the water. You slice the sourdough walnut bread you baked two days ago and dip it in a beaten egg (one of the eggs your landlady, and friend after three years of renting this cabin, left for you on your doorstep) and Saigon cinnamon. You fry the bread in butter and spoon local raspberries and blueberries you’ve reduced to a sauce on top. You eat that. And then you go back to writing. You write until the water has had enough and calls you out in your kayak." There's no more relaxing and exhilarating place for us. Thank you, Michelle and Lanie!
My husband, daughter and I stayed at the Wildwood cabin adjoining the Sea Spray Cottage for a week over the Christmas Holidays. We have stayed on Lopez for years as our favorite Seattle getaway, but this was our first time with this property.
When we arrived the house was warm and cozy and the view was magnificent. The kitchen was well appointed with all the items we needed for farm fresh meals each day. The bed were soft and inviting and we could see the stars under the skylights at night.
The beach was beautiful and our daughter enjoyed collecting little shiny rocks and driftwood. She also enjoyed exploring the gardens and playing on the large grassy lawn.
We met the owners midway through our vacation. Michelle was so helpful with the booking and even brought us homemade cookies upon her arrival.
We will definitely be back!
