Hello and thank you for taking the time to look at my listing! I am a retired career military officer originally from Austin, Texas and finished my last few years of military service in the DC area. I hope you enjoy your time visiting our nation's capital, and if there is anything I can do to assist, please let me know!
David Cooper purchased this house in 2006
Historic Capitol Hill is truly a downtown suburb that offers all the excitement of the city yet retains a safe and small neighborhood feel. The residents here are a tight-knit group comprised mostly of families who possess a strong sense of community. Nestled within the long rows of neighborhood homes you will find pockets of excitement ranging from a multitude of eating establishments to DC's only remaining original public produce market, known as Eastern Market. And of course it's extremely close proximity to the Capitol and various Smithsonian museums puts you literally at the doorstep of our nation's history. It is an absolutely wonderful location for both residents and visitors alike!
No expense was spared in remodeling and furnishing this house. You will be staying in an historic home complete with modern amenities. Location-wise, everything you need (restaurants, groceries, shopping, Metro) is within 2 blocks and everything you want to see (Capitol, Library of Congress, National Mall, Smithsonian museums) is just a few blocks further and within easy walking distance. Live amongst the locals and truly feel at home during your visit!
Couldn’t have had a better stay in this historic Capitol Hill row house! The house is perfectly located just two blocks from Union Station in a quiet, charming neighborhood. And although it’s so close to the station, we never noticed the hubbub or sounds of traffic. Shops, restaurants, and sightseeing were also easily within walking distance. The house was spacious, well appointed, recently updated, and beautifully furnished. Our group of seven had no problem sharing the space and always felt like we had plenty of room. We especially loved the elevated deck at the back of the house—had happy hour there almost every night! The laundry facilities were also a great amenity to have. We would absolutely stay here again, and recommend it to anyone visiting DC (especially for families and groups)!!
Spring Break visit to DC with multi generational group. Comfortable for all, everything updated and in a great neighborhood. Two blocks from Union Station and also walking distance to great restaurants. For those who drive to DC, free parking! We flew from MN and it was super easy to take Metro to Union Station and walk with luggage and two children.
David was always available to help and answer questions. Very clean and great amenities, would highly recommend! Great patio out back.
Eight 60-year old women stayed in this townhouse for three nights for an informal college reunion. David's instructions and communications were both pleasant and informative, with all expectations met. He fully utilized the HomeAway App where he supplied detailed helpful information re: grocery stores, trash handling, transportation, entertainment, historical sites, government buildings, etc., as well as carefully outlined access and driving directions. The location of the townhouse is perfect as we walked to restaurants, museums, and took advantage of Uber for plays. Transportation to the city was made easy due to its proximity to Amtrak's Union Station and the highways. The use of a garage was an added bonus, so parking was not an issue. Although it was winter when we arrived, there was a nice deck and grill that would tempt in the summer.
The townhouse featured 3 comfortable queens and a sofa bed, so we slept comfortably. The townhouse was immaculate, linens and towels provided. Rooms were good size and well-appointed with sturdy, not Ikea, furniture. The paintings and wall-hangings created a homey feel and made us feel like we were living like real Washingtonians, not visitors. The area was quiet and looks recently transformed.
We do like to cook and brought two delicious dinners to the townhouse, where we found the kitchen well-equipped. We ate easily around the dining room table. Nice fridge, stove, etc. We could have used more placemats, as there were only six, and we went through the plates, coffee cups and glasses quickly, so additional plates and utensils would be nice. But that was quickly resolved with plastic utensils. This minor blip did not impact the enjoyment of our meals together. I recommend this townhouse with the highest of reviews, and we spoke of renting the townhouse again in the near future. So thank you very much, David, for a most enjoyable, problem-free stay in DC!
We stayed in this house over MLK Day weekend and had an amazing time. It's convenient to everything, with Union Station just steps away. More importantly, though, it's very comfortable for a group and immaculately appointed. The beds were super comfortable too. Highly, highly recommended. Also big kudos to David for being so responsive when we had an issue (which was quickly resolved).
I rented this house for my visit to DC from Tampa. Little did we know the blizzard of 2016 was going to strike during our stay! I had not seen snow fall in over 20 years so we had an awesome time in the storm. The house was absolutely awesome. Built in the late 1800s but with all modern upgrades. Being from Florida, I am used to jumping in my car to get around town. In DC cars are more of an inconvenience so we didn't bother renting one. This house was 2 blocks from Union Station and we used the Metro to go everywhere. It was super convenient and fun. The house was a very short walk from the national mall and we walked there several times with ease. The house is great and working with David is great! I will return to this place!
Thanks David for a fantastic stay. Your terrace home is every bit as good as you described. The location is excellent, set among other historic homes and a real treat to walk around the area. So close to Union Station that we walked to and from there with bags when we arrived and left. H street is only a couple of blocks away with lots of restaurants and a great supermarket on the corner. Dangerously Delicious Pies was a standout for savoury and sweet pies for dinner. The Ethiopian Restaurant is also worth a try as the food is quite different.
The house has been beautifully renovated and super comfortable and warm for our winter trip. We especially liked the booklet outlining the history of the house and previous owners as well as local maps and guides for sightseeing. More than enough space for 2 adults and 2 teenagers to spread out and feel at home. Large kitchen and laundry facilities make such a difference.
Thanks also for making it easy to gain access and for quick communication throughout. We would certainly recommend your place for visiting friends or relatives and would love to come back at some stage.
