There are many things to do and see in Southeastern Connecticut. A few blocks away you'll find Ocean Beach Park which features a waterpark, mini-golf, an arcade and daily exciting activities. As our guest, you'll have a free beach pass to let you in as often as you'd like! We have two fabulous resort/casinos nearby. Mohegan Sun, the 2nd largest resort/casino in the world is only a 15 minute drive and Foxwoods/MGM the largest in the world is only 30 minutes away. Mystic, a quaint little village that holds Mystic Seaport & Museum, Mystic Aquarium, Olde Mystic Village (great shopping) and some wonderful restaurants is only 15 minutes away. If you want to visit our US Navy Submarine Museum, that's only 15 minutes away as well.
Choose to make New London your stay and Boston is just 2 hours North and New York City is only 2 1/2 hours to your south (save yourself some drive time and catch a train to either location right in the heart of downtown New London....a great way to see the countryside). Or catch a ferry to Block Island or Orient Point Long Island for the day.
My husband and I own two loving shih tzu's, Patch & Pumpkin who are the loves of our lives...next to each other of course! We love New London and the Southeastern shoreline of Connecticut where we have numerous properties that we own and rent out. We thoroughly enjoy sharing are little part of the world with new and old friends. www.vacationsbydesignct.com
Suzanne Karp purchased this house in 2009
We purchased this beautiful home and have had loads of fun renovating and decorating it. We enjoy vacationing ourselves here when, as rare as it is, we don't have visitors. The walk to the beach anytime of the year is always relaxing and reminds us why we moved here in the first place.
The proximity to Ocean Beach Park with all the family friendly events they produce here makes it the perfect vacation home. And, of course, for 'adult play', the proximity to the two largest casinos in the world can't be beat!
THanks you guys for welcoming us so we could enjoy a relaxing enjoyable week in Ocean Beach. New London has a great history behind it! This was a nice get-a-way!
My Family & I (12 of us altogether - mix of little ones, teens and adults) were lucky enough to stay at Suzanne and Dan's place in New London in July 2015. Suzanne met us at the house to give the tour. It was perfect for ALL of us with PLENTY of room and privacy...similar to a mini hotel with all of our own family suites. The kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans, utensils, etc., but if you needed anything, you could go 10 mins down the street to a shop & stop (open 24hrs). Because we were a large group, we cooked out on the grill EVERY NIGHT and had our dinner and drinks on the (very private) deck. I think this was my favorite time : ) chilling at the end of the day before heading down to Ocean beach (2 block walk) for the nightly events. The game room provided a ton of entertainment for the kids (all ages) every night. Mystic is so close (15mins) and for a more wavy beach, we ended up at Misquamicut RI Beach ($20/day) for boogy boarding. Highly recommend it, the only thing we couldn't find for the beach was a sun umbrella-they could have had one, but we didn't bug Suzanne or Dan for one. They had everything else though...towels, chairs, sunscreen, beach toys, etc.
This house is a 5 Star for us - it was perfect in so many ways. Great space, great location, great quiet, friendly neighborhood and neighbors. Someone in another post mentioned ants in the kitchen...yes, we saw a few around the water faucet, (my home is no different) but I don't believe it was about any food that was left-atleast not in our case...it certainly wasn't bothersome or an issue at all (2 or 3 the whole week).
We would DEFINITELY return back here for more morning/nightly walks on the beach, exploring more CT fun and just being able to relax in this wonderful home ; ) TY Suzanne and Dan for hosting our family in New London.
Me & my family had the good fortune of picking New London for our summer vacation. Suzanne & Dan's home comfortably held all 8 adults and a few kids too. The best part about the house for us adults was probably the kids room in the basement - stocked full of games, a soft carpet and a TV, they had all they needed to enjoy a few hours every evening after the beach. The second best part about the house was that it had all we needed for the beach - chairs, towels, toys, etc.. For someone like me (who doesn't think of these things), these items were surely appreciated.
Ocean Beach was absolutely gorgeous. Not crowded, beautiful sand and just enough surf for the toddlers. The splash park, playground, amusement park, arcade and night events provided plenty more entertainment. I'll be honest, we didn't get past Ocean Beach but I know there's a lot more to do in the area. Maybe next year!
Suzanne was very responsive to all my inquiries. The one issue we had was that there wasn't enough gas for the grill and it was replaced by noon the next day. We had a very lovely time.
I recently booked this house in New London for a weekend retreat with a group of friends. Suzanne and Daniel were very helpful and accommodating towards our group. The house comfortably fit all of us, and--seeing as we were there during the wintertime and thus didn't spend too much time outdoors--we happily took advantage of the board game and VHS/DVD collections. The house was very cosy and quaint, and the kitchen was well stocked in terms of utensils, allowing us to cook meals for a large group of people. We also took a walk to the beach, which was very close by and beautiful in the snow. Had we been there longer, we would have loved to explore the town more. Overall, we had a lovely time! Thanks to Suzanne and Daniel!
It pains me to submit a negative review but I feel honesty is essential for sites like VRBO. People base their travel plans on such reviews, this is my 1st negative review and I hope my last. I will start with the pros: the house holds alot of people. It is large inside and plenty of sleeping room. It is close to the beach and a beach pass is provided. They had plenty of televisions, games and entertainment for the kids.
The negatives: The house was FILTHY when we arrived. Dirty kitchen, dirty fridge, dirty floors, dirty bathrooms, we even found dirty diapers in the bathroom trashcan. We called the owner and he apologized but did not offer to send cleaning crew out and I did not want to make trouble so we cleaned it ourselves. I would be shocked if the owners actually use professional cleaners. My suspicion is that they clean it themselves. I thought the leftovers in the fridge were very unclean and did not appreciate having the space taken up by things we would not use(who knows how old they are). The bathroom rug in master bath is glued to the floor-how is it ever cleaned?
As per the owners instructions we called the owner to let him know of our arrival time and had to wait 1 hour for him to show. I had to call him to remind him we were waiting, he said he forgot. Have no clue as to why he had to meet us and did not just give us code over the phone?!?
Despite leaving the house in better condition than when we arrived it took about FOUR months to get the security check returned and that was after 5 phone calls and various texts to remind them to send back the deposit. If this was a 1 time error fine but please note that almost every other review submitted by guests and not the owners had the same issue. UNACCEPTABLE! Lastly, please note that 90% of the reviews submitted for this house are input by the owners in the guestbook they leave at the house. Who would write a negative thing in a guest book in hand at the house? The owners might get angry and with hold the security check although that is likely to happen anyway. Again it is hard to submit this but I feel I must be completely forthright about the house.
My wife and I decided to travel east for Thanksgiving to be with our son who attends college in Boston. This property suited our needs with it's many bedrooms, centrally located between Boston and New York, and reasonably priced. Our son had two friends join him and we enjoyed cooking, walking on the beach and just hanging out catching up on his school year. We took a day trip to New York on the train which was really easy from the Amtrak station in New London. This property is great for large groups, is easy to get to, in a nice neighborhood and close to the beach. Our only concern is a failure to return our security deposit and no response to our emails : (
The New London property was located in a very nice neigborhood and only minutes from the beach. The home fit our needs, there were 6 adults and 2 little ones, plus a dog. The only concern we had was the amount of food items left in the refrig and draws from other renters. Upon our arrival there were small food ants in the bread draw and on the counter around the sink. We found the location to be great! Easy access to beach, Mystic area and many other sites and places to eat. We did utilize the grill and deck a great deal.
My big concern after almost two months from our stay is not receiving our initial deposit back. From a business practice this is unacceptable. Hopefully it will be corrected???!!!
Mohegan Sun Casino Resort less that 15 minutes away. Foxwoods/MGM Grand Casino less than 1/2 an hour away. Ocean Beach Park walking distance from home.
