Lovely, private Half Moon Bay is home to Playa Caribe #5. Located midway between the points of the bay, the views from your balcony of the second floor center unit are breathtaking. The ocean can be viewed from every room in the condo!
The Playa Caribe building, which contains 12 units and 3 casitas, is beautifully maintained and provides purified water from our own onsite Reverse Osmosis plant. You will never have to worry again about accidentally brushing your teeth with the tap water. The water even tastes good.
Playa Caribe #5 is a luxury condominium providing all the amenities you would have at home: high thread count sheets, full kitchen, pool, central air conditioning, free dedicated Wi-Fi, satellite TV, DVD, iPod player, CD player, etc. Add to this the daily maid service, and you will not want to leave! Just because you have a kitchen doesn't mean you have to cook. A short walk up or down the beach leads to two excellent beachside restaurants: La Lunita and La Buena Vida. There are many restaurants to chose from.
Half Moon Bay is a premiere snorkeling spot. Akumal Bay and Yal-ku Lagoon are both in walking distance from the condo.
Turtles build their nests on the beach and, if you are visiting during the summer months, you may see the babies hatch and make their dash to the water.

Hi from John and Annie. We are happily retired* in Bishop, California, after thirty plus years living on Donner Summit, in the mountains above Lake Tahoe, enjoying the skiing, hiking, climbing and coping with massive amounts of snow. Bishop is on the eastern side of the Sierras and is a playground for athletes. We moved here to rock climb year round and to get away from the snow.
We love spending August in the condo and enjoying our Half Moon Bay. We are in or on the bay for most of every day.
*John was a ski school director and climbing instructor. Annie was a teacher, mainly in kindergarten.
Annie purchased this condo in 2005
One morning in early Jan. 2005, after it had been snowing for a week and road closures were eminent, I decided I needed to get somewhere warm and welcoming. I had a photo of a condo on Half Moon Bay up on the 'frig that a friend had given to us at a Christmas party. After staring longingly at the photo, I started looking for a place to stay on HMB, not having any idea it was high season. Of course, nothing was available. One wonderful travel agent told me she had found a hotel room for us but told me to see if I could find a flight first. Oh, my. By the time I secured the flight and confirmed the hotel room, it was about 2:30 in the afternoon. We ran around throwing things in a couple of suitcases, jumped in the car and made the 3 1/2 hour drive up to Reno with white knuckles. Cars were spinning out all around us.
We spent that night in Reno and flew out the next morning. We had our feet in the sand that afternoon. It was love at first sight! Half Moon Bay is an absolutely magical place.
One day we wandered into the realtor's just to check out prices. When Tony asked if he could show us some properties, we thought it would be fun to look around. One of the properties was Playa Caribe #5. We fell under the spell of that fabulous view of Half Moon Bay from every room in the condo. We love to share our place with family and friends. It is our hope that our visitors will want to return often and think of it as their private get away.
There seem to be two types of visitors to Half Moon Bay. Some fill every minute of every day with a new adventure: cenotes, diving, driving around, shopping, restaurants, cultural events, ruins, etc. Believe me, there is no end to all one can find to do in this area. We fit in with 'the others' who just love to hang out at Half Moon Bay. We bring about a million books and, when we aren't in the water snorkeling, swimming or SUPing, we have our noses pressed to the pages. The diving is wonderful, but we just can't get enough of the snorkeling. I should add that another bonus to staying at Playa Caribe is meeting some of the very interesting people who stay there often.

I was so so so very excited to see the post about P.C. #5. Annie, we loved it!! We stayed March29 to April05. The view is SPECTACULAR, saw turtles peeking their heads up frequently and rays , we think, swimming about!! We snorkeled half moon bay at least 2 days and thought it was great, a bit more wavey then Akumal bay, close by, where we saw turtles gallor, rays, barracuda, squid, etc.. I saw my first turtle snorkeling in front on the condo though. We also witnessed an AWESOME day of water spouts, I'll try photos later if I can figure this thing out. We loved the wave sounds all day, the wind at night can wake one up if you are not use to it. Augustine is the greatest and all the help too!!! Maid service is so great and the TV was up and working when we left. Loved the lay out with the bedrooms and showers/bath so beautifully tiled and spacious in my opinion. Balconies from both bedrooms and the dining area. We even grilled from the balcony one night, was great! The pepper grinder is not workin so great guys. Loved all the books about Mexico, the reef, etc. The bowl with vegies, fruit, chips, and salsa was a great greeting late at night too. The security is a good feeling. We did use the safe and liked that feature. You guys have a great place. Hope we can do it again next year and bring our daughters.
We have come to Quintana Roo 6 times in the past 8 years. Isla Mujeres, Playa Del Carmen, Puerto Aventuras...all were wonderful in their own right, but Akumal was the perfect fit, and the best by far, for our family. In all of our trips to the region, we have never stayed in a nicer condo than this one.

After traveling all day, it was an amazing feeling to step into a condo that was every bit of what we had hoped it would be and more. Towels were folded into animal shapes, there was a welcome basket, and the place was immaculate! Usually, if I use a glass from the back of the cabinet, or some obscure pot, I expect it to be a little bit dirty just from not being touched for so long. But I SWEAR...EVERY ITEM WAS WASHED FRESH FOR US!
Both of the rooms are practically identical and would both be considered "Master Bedrooms". They both have beautifully tiled HUGE tubs and showers. They each have small private balconies that look straight over the ocean. TVs in both.
All of the reusables are replaced for you free of charge, so don't buy a giant pack of TP like we did.
The kitchen is complete and would satisfy most needs. There is not an oven, but a great cooktop and a microwave. Whatever you do buy, don't buy salt...there is plenty of salt.
There are outlets everywhere! some even have built in USB, so you can leave the power strips and extension cords at home.
Playa Caribe is extremely well kept and on the perfect part of half-moon bay.
Being able to use water STRAIGHT FROM THE FAUCET, to brush teeth and wash fruits and veggies was such an unusual treat, and a first for us in Mexico. There is always someone there to help with the little things you need, like charging your golf cart, etc.
When you rent Annie's condo, you not only get an amazing condo, you also get what equates to a personal concierge in the owner, Annie. From the day you book, you begin receiving helpful tips that will make your stay better. We followed all of her tips, and couldn't have been happier.
You can not be disappointed if you rent this unit!
We just returned from an absolutely perfect Akumal vacation. From the moment we walked in, we knew Annie's condo was special. The condo is immaculate and the daily maid service is wonderful. The festive decor is perfect. There are two AMAZING tile huge bathtubs that we all loved. The staff is wonderful as well as the security, they were on top of everything. Akumal itself is warm and fun but small enough to feel cozy. Thank you, thank you for such a perfect trip.
Annie's place is beautiful! She has everything you could ever need in her Condo. If you've thought about it, she's got it! One of the things I loved most is her attention to the details. She has thought about Everything. CARM (the shuttle service, she told us about) was worth every penny! The staff at Playa Caribe are very pleasant! We had an excellent time and my husband is already talking about booking for next year!! Oh ya, He went fishing one day with "DOG", caught 3 El dorato. We had some for dinner. Very tasty! Super great time. Thanks Annie and John.

What a wonderful place to stay over Christmas! Two couples and 1 adult son enjoyed #5, especially the patio for Happy Hour and breakfasts with its wonderful view of Half Moon Bay....you can see it all! Snorkelers, paddle boarders, diving pelicans...lots of entertainment! The bedrooms were very comfortable with plenty of storage and a TV each. My husband found great reception to watch our favorite football team on the Mexican NFL station! But too much else to do! Augustin was helpful in arranging Santa Cruz Cenote tour and helping us out in many ways. Patricia, our dear maid, brought a lovely food basket as we moved in. The kitchen was very well equipped ; our favorite appliance was the blender, and we used the citrus squeezer several times a day! Annie was great sending us tips of restaurants and activities. We ordered our Christmas morning breakfast as a takeout the night before from Turtle Bay Cafe. We went to the little produce market in town (Wed/Sat..ask Augustine) and got fresh juice oranges, papayas, mangoes etc. We did rent a car (parking in town 20 pesos/hr..validated by Turtle Bay or Taverna..or farther out 50 pesos/day if you're going to beach or shopping wandering through town). However, easy to rent bikes or golf carts. Several restaurants within close walking distance..Annie will send ideas. We had horrible service at Buena Vida..would avoid that even though it's close. It was so nice to walk out from our condo and wade in to snorkel or we got canoes to paddle just down the street. The pool on the patio is very comfortable and I practiced using my goggles and snorkeling equipment there! You will appreciate Annie's decorating touches with local art throughout the condo. In the Tulum area, we enjoyed the El Paris Beach Club(See Trip Advisor) and the Biosphere boat ride/float. (Augustin can arrange transport) A wonderful condo in a great location! We highly recommend Akumal and Playa Caribe #5!
Our stay at Playa Caribe #5 was absolutely perfect in every way. The location was great a 5 or 10 minute walk to the town of Akumal and great restaurants. Annie thought of everything and sent us so much local information before we arrived, not to mention the wonderful food basket as well. The condo itself was so beautifully done. It was recently remodeled with gorgeous tile colors and beautiful decorations. Very much a true Spanish vibe.
The views were unbelievable. Had coffee and drinks on the balcony everyday as well as on the beach and at the pool. The staff was so accommodating and friendly. We met so many nice people while we were there. It was one of the most relaxing trips I think my husband and I have ever had. The snorkeling was amazing too. Very quiet and private area.
We will definitely be back to Akumal and stay at John and Annie's place. It was so inviting and the kitchen was so well stocked with everything we needed and then some.
I would highly recommend this property to couples and families alike.
The rooms are very large and lots of closet space. We're already thinking about going back soon.
We loved our trip! The condo was exactly, if not better, than the pictures! And the view feels like your are on the ocean! Location to town was perfect... we could walk or ride bikes everywhere! We actually were able to rent bikes for the week at the condo office! The condo is also as beach front as you can get with snorkeling right off the shore! The local restaurants were great and super friendly! We especially enjoyed Buena Vida which we walked to just abouthe everyday! I did a ton of research on other condos in the area and am so happy we chose #5! We will definitely be back! Can't wait!
The snorkeling and diving are fabulous! We are in the perfect spot for easy access to Mayan ruins, EcoParks and many other adventures
