Lovely, private Half Moon Bay is home to Playa Caribe #5. Located midway between the points of the bay, the views from your balcony of the second floor center unit are breathtaking. The ocean can be viewed from everywhere in the condo!

The Playa Caribe building, which contains 12 units and 3 casitas, is beautifully maintained and provides purified water from our own onsite Reverse Osmosis plant. You will never have to worry again about accidentally brushing your teeth with the tap water. The water even tastes good.

Playa Caribe #5 is a luxury condominium providing all the amenities you would have at home: high thread count sheets, full kitchen, pool, central air conditioning, free dedicated Wi-Fi, satellite TV, DVD, iPod player, CD player, etc. Add to this the daily maid service, and you will not want to back home! Just because you have a kitchen doesn't mean you have to cook. A short walk up or down the beach leads to two excellent beachside restaurants: La Lunita and La Buena Vida. There are many restaurants to chose from.

Half Moon Bay is a premiere snorkeling spot. Akumal Bay and Yal-ku Lagoon are within walking distance from the condo.

Turtles build their nests on the beach and, if you are visiting during the summer months, you may see the babies hatch and make their dash to the water.

About Annie

Hi from John and Annie. We are happily retired* in Bishop, California, after thirty plus years living on Donner Summit, in the mountains above Lake Tahoe, enjoying the skiing, hiking, climbing and coping with massive amounts of snow. Bishop is on the eastern side of the Sierras and is a playground for athletes. We moved here to rock climb year round and to get away from the snow.

We love spending August in the condo and enjoying our Half Moon Bay. We are in or on the bay for most of every day.

*John was a ski school director and climbing instructor. Annie was a teacher, mainly in kindergarten.

Annie purchased this condo in 2005

Why Annie chose Quintana Roo

One morning in early Jan. 2005, after it had been snowing for a week and road closures were eminent, I decided I needed to get somewhere warm and welcoming. I had a photo of a condo on Half Moon Bay up on the 'frig that a friend had given to us at a Christmas party. After staring longingly at the photo, I started looking for a place to stay on HMB, not having any idea it was high season. Of course, nothing was available. One wonderful travel agent told me she had found a hotel room for us but told me to see if I could find a flight first. Oh, my. By the time I secured the flight and confirmed the hotel room, it was about 2:30 in the afternoon. We ran around throwing things in a couple of suitcases, jumped in the car and made the 3 1/2 hour drive up to Reno with white knuckles. Cars were spinning out all around us.

We spent that night in Reno and flew out the next morning. We had our feet in the sand that afternoon. It was love at first sight! Half Moon Bay is an absolutely magical place.

One day we wandered into the realtor's just to check out prices. When Tony asked if he could show us some properties, we thought it would be fun to look around. One of the properties was Playa Caribe #5. We fell under the spell of that fabulous view of Half Moon Bay from every room in the condo. We love to share our place with family and friends. It is our hope that our visitors will want to return often and think of it as their private get away.

What makes this condo unique

There seem to be two types of visitors to Half Moon Bay. Some fill every minute of every day with some new adventure: cenotes, diving, driving around, shopping, restaurants, cultural events, ruins, etc. Believe me, there is no end to all one can find to do in this area. We fit in with 'the others' who just love to hang out at Half Moon Bay. We bring about a million books and, when we aren't in the water snorkeling, swimming or SUPing, we have our noses pressed to the pages. The diving is wonderful, but we just can't get enough of the snorkeling. I should add that another bonus to staying at Playa Caribe is meeting some of the very interesting people who stay there often.

This was posted on the Locogringo Forum:

I was so so so very excited to see the post about P.C. #5. Annie, we loved it!! We stayed March29 to April05. The view is SPECTACULAR, saw turtles peeking their heads up frequently and rays , we think, swimming about!! We snorkeled half moon bay at least 2 days and thought it was great, a bit more wavey then Akumal bay, close by, where we saw turtles gallor, rays, barracuda, squid, etc.. I saw my first turtle snorkeling in front on the condo though. We also witnessed an AWESOME day of water spouts, I'll try photos later if I can figure this thing out. We loved the wave sounds all day, the wind at night can wake one up if you are not use to it. Augustine is the greatest and all the help too!!! Maid service is so great and the TV was up and working when we left. Loved the lay out with the bedrooms and showers/bath so beautifully tiled and spacious in my opinion. Balconies from both bedrooms and the dining area. We even grilled from the balcony one night, was great! The pepper grinder is not workin so great guys. Loved all the books about Mexico, the reef, etc. The bowl with vegies, fruit, chips, and salsa was a great greeting late at night too. The security is a good feeling. We did use the safe and liked that feature. You guys have a great place. Hope we can do it again next year and bring our daughters.

Playa Caribe #5 is fanatastic!

  • 5 of 5

Playa Caribe #5 is a beautiful, well equipped and maintained accommodation on Half Moon Bay. We recently spent a week there and Annie is very easy to work with and has so much information to offer to make your stay in the Akumal area that much more enjoyable. The staff is very helpful and Agustin, the on site property manager, is tremendous. We had a great trip! We were able to snorkel everyday. We saw turtles, manta ray, sting ray, and many beautiful fish! The first 5 minutes we went out we saw a sting ray who spooked my daughter a little. The 2nd day the water was rough, so we went to Yal Ku lagoon which was a good place to get Delilah more comfortable in the water. We rented bikes right at Playa Caribe which was fun too! One day we went to Akumal bay and snorkeled. Lots of tourists and turtles! I'm glad they are trying to protect that area because it is crowded.

We also went to Cenotes Rancho Santa Cruz...highly recommend! It was private, beautiful, and close to Playa Caribe. The rest of the days the ocean was much calmer and we snorkeled out front. A turtle built a nest right in front of the condo while we were there! Of course it was the one night I didn't wake up constantly to see if there were any turtles. A lady staying there saw it and of course took pictures with her flash....upsetting. We also saw a lady rip off one of those beautiful coral leafs! 😢

As far as local restaurants we liked La Buena Vida the best, as well as La Cueva de la Pescadora.

Thanks for a great trip and information!

Loved Playa Caribe #5

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 10 days at Playa Caribe in unit #5 and loved the vacation. Annie is fantastic to deal with and she has lots of information about the area. The condo is very clean, with daily cleaning, well stocked kitchen and fantastic view of the bay. The staff was great at helping when we needed anything. The town is a 15 minute walk, 2 restaurants are only 5-10 minutes away. There are lots of rocks when getting into the water but we knew this and had water shoes which helped a lot. The water was warm with small waves for the first part of the vacation and then really calm for the end. It was a very relaxing vacation and I would definitely recommend unit #5!

We have stayed at Playa Caribe a few times now and Unit #5 is wonderful! Well equipped, clean as a whistle and a perfect location within the building. Views are spectacular. The building is located at a great spot on the beach in terms of restaurants being close and trip to town an easy walk. For SCUBA divers, it is a very short walk to Dive Adventures. Annie was very easy to work with in terms of setting up the reservation. Pool is right on the beach and lounge chairs are comfortable and readily available. Highly recommend Unit #5. Would give it a 6-star rating if possible. We will be back!

Lovely Place

  • 5 of 5

The condo is a lovely place to stay. The views are spectacular with Half Moon Bay right in front. It is well furnished (love the onyx table top) and the kitchen well equipped. Easy walking distance of several restaurants. Nice pool area with tables and umbrellas for shade. Can't say much about the beach because of bad weather, but with good weather it would be a great place to lay on the lounges and snorkel. All of the employees we dealt with were great. Much thanks to Patricia for cleaning up after us. Annie was easy to work with and answered all our questions. We'll look forward to staying in #5 again soon.

Great Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We spent 10 days at Playa Caribe #5 and loved it! It was close to everything and we got to see a turtle lay her eggs right in front of the condo. If we needed anything, all we had to do was asked. We also had our groceries delivered prior to our arrival and the was awesome too! Highly recommend this condo! Anne is wonderful to work with!

Best Family Vacation!!!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 4 had an amazing week! The condo is exactly as described and more. The balcony was unbelievable! All of the staff at the condo were welcoming and very helpful. Daily maid service was a special treat. We ate some meals at local restaurants, all were fantastic. We had pre-ordered groceries to be delivered, as well as an arrival dinner from Turtle Bay Café. Both were a great choice for starting off our vacation. We did rent a golf cart for the week which came in handy for numerous trips to the store, restaurants, the lagoon and Akumal beach. It was not necessary but it added to the fun of the trip, especially for the kids. Akumal is a great location for day trips. We went to the Tulum ruins, Xcaret and Xplor. We did not rent a car this trip. Just used taxis. Had no problems at all. Annie was great from beginning to end with booking and planning our trip. Thanks Annie! We would highly recommend this condo for your next vacation! Hope to be back one day!
