Casa Tortuga villa is a five bedroom villa with a one bedroom guest house adjacent to the villa, for a total of six bedrooms. The pale pink villa is two stories, with five large arches and 60 foot long verandas on each floor. The upper level has two very large bedrooms with king canopy beds. The beach level has three additional canopy beds, and a large lanai around the pool.
The beach has a giant chess set from Neiman Marcus. The King and Queen in the chess set are three feet tall, which makes the game a lot of fun. Our pool is the largest private pool in Belize, with an eight foot high bronze horse fountain from Versailles. At one end of the pool is a booth for 'in pool' dining. We also have 250 feet of beach front, on the Caribbean Sea. Our beach is the longest of any villa in San Pedro.
The guest house has a king bed in the bedroom and a queen sofa bed in the living room. It also has a jacuzzi tub, and a roof garden, where you can see all over the island.
Our cook and her assistant prepare three delicious meals for our guests each day. We have a breakfast china, a luncheon china, and two different patterns for dinner, which she alternates. Our cook, Maria, also uses linen napkins at all meals, and crystal stemware at dinner. Her meal presentations are truly exceptional, as well as her floral centre pieces for the villa.
Guides will pick you up at our private dock for activities and excursions. On the evening of your arrival, our guide, Carlos, will come over to the villa after dinner, when everyone is together, and tell you about the activities available in the area.
Casa Tortuga Villa is a truly magical place. We hope to make your vacation here the most wonderful one ever.
What a wonderful oasis to spend in the sun and escape the cold of January. Our family of 5 plus 2 longtime family friends just returned 2 weeks ago and are ready to return!! Casa Tortuga is quite possibly one of the most relaxing places we have experienced. The inviting hammocks and pool were just what we needed. Although there are houses on both sides you truly feel like you are all alone on the island. I won't go into much detail, only because other reviewers have, but yes, the food and Maria's service are every bit as good as they say!!! This was my first time to enjoy this exquisite villa, but my husband and his family had been before and I guarantee you our family will be back for a third time!
Our family of 9 - ages 9 to 72 - spent Christmas week 2014 at this magnificent villa. Everything was perfect, like the best dream. The villa is beautifully situated and the decor is wonderfully eclectic. All 5 bedrooms are enormous and well-appointed. Our rented golf carts were waiting in the driveway. Soft breezes, swaying palms, hammocks everywhere, waves breaking on the distant reef, just as you would imagine. Maria is a gifted cook: freshly baked pies every night, fresh salsa, lobster, conch fritters, fish, shrimp, chicken, salads, all made from scratch. Her assistants are both warm and efficient. We ate every meal at the villa. The beautiful pool was the center of activity - cleaned every day and cool in the tropic heat. As advertised, Carlos or one of his extremely capable and friendly guide/drivers picks you up at the end of the dock - 100 steps from the villa - for a range of adventures. We took 3 snorkeling trips (including one day with three snorkel stops, the first of which was in part a hunting trip where our guides armed with spear guns harvested fish, lobster & conch for our lunch), and visited the Mayan ruins at Lamanai - all from the end of the dock. We snorkeled with nurse sharks, several species of turtles, squid, spotted eagle rays and Moray eels, as well as an outstanding spectrum of gorgeous smaller fish. The people of Belize are wonderful: disarming and welcoming. None of the hostile edge as in some places in Mexico or the Caribbean. We will be back.
We recently returned from spending a week at Casa Tortuga. We had a group of 10 celebrating my husbands upcoming 50th birthday. The worse thing that happened to us was getting stranded on the North end as our golf carts had issues; however, we spent time at Palapas Bar while carts were repaired and had a fabulous time. Happy to say this is the worse thing that we experienced. WE had a fabulous time. I cannot say enough about Maria and the staff. Food was superb daily with 3 meals a day, all fresh....absolutely heavenly. We are all low key and felt they went over and beyond. The fresh pies nightly.....now we all have to diet but it was delicious. Carlos was also amazing and made sure we all got to do what we wanted. The day of snorkeling and cooking up our catch for a picnic lunch was my favorite. This was a great place as everyone had many opportunities to plan an excursion and experience what they wanted. The only thing we thought would have been better for the accommodations is if there were an ice machine, but then again, not sure how long they would last with the salty air, etc. WE arrived with 10 couples and everyone had an amazing time; we left with 8 couples. :) One couple loved it sooo much and was able to make arrangements to stay another week. Definitely a place I'd like to visit again.
There were twelve of us that stayed at Casa Tortuga for 7 days. We arrived at different times and by different modes of transportation, but dinner was waiting for us and it was the beginning of a great week. Maria, Angie, and Flora are amazing at what they do, very efficient, and very nice. We only ate lunch in San Pedro once because why would you want to eat elsewhere when you have Maria.
Carlos did his best to accomodate us as the weather changed, and always came through. Every tour or excursion we took was fun and/or a good history lesson (ruins).
I think the only thing I could say that isn't in the information is the Tortuga Room's bathroom is not connected to the room, but that really wasn't a problem. Just an unknown. There is plenty of room for togetherness and alone time. Some activities were with all and some days we split up.
Once the bucket list is complete, this VRBO is going back on the list.
Had an awesome time on our 8 girls getaway for March break. Casa Tortuga far exceeded our expectations. The villa was luxurious and had everything you needed for a fun social holiday. My top 10 memories of the trip:
1 Maria's amazing cooking
2 swimming with sharks, stingrays and turtles only 5 min boat ride away (thanks carlos)
3 golfing on our own private island for $75 us in Caya Chapel ..45 min boat ride away
4 lounging at the pool enjoying Maria's frozen fruity drinks
5 volleyball in the afternoon
6 golfcarting to the purple parrot and the Chicken Drop event for fun evening activities
7 watching the sunset from the pelican nest
8 beach style boot camp ( we had a crazy fitness instructor in our group)
9 enjoying fresh coconut from one of the many coconut palms
10 the hot sauce. Love Marie Sharpe!
Thanks Peggy and I think we will be back some day!
Our group of 8 adults visited this beautiful property the first week of Dec. 2012. We have rented several higher-end properties from VRBO in the past but this was by far the best. The rooms were spacious and well appointed. The chef Maria spoiled us rotten with fantastic cuisine. She was kind and accommodating and made sure we were well taken care of. Carlos from Suya tours met us at the villa and arranged all of our excursions. It was seamless and the tour guides from Suya were professional and friendly. The pool and grounds were well kept and we enjoyed relaxing in the many hammocks and lounging by the pool. The fisherman in our group fished off the on-property dock every day. And having left my dogs at home, it was nice having visits from our beach doggie, Sassy! It was nice being able to get around town with only a golf cart. No rental car needed on this compact and tourist friendly island.
I would most definitely recommend this property and hope to visit again in the near future. Thank you to Peggy, Maria, Carlos and all for making this such a memorable trip for our group.
