Berkeley Shopping Districts: Berkeley is a lively marketplace with an atmosphere wonderfully conducive to the art of shopping. Here, shopping is not a passive, enclosed-mall experience - instead it's an interactive, outdoor-oriented activity where window-shopping and walking complement the excitement of discovery.
Gourmet Ghetto: NORTH BERKELEY 'Gourmet Ghetto'?The restaurants, boutiques, and galleries along Shattuck Avenue and Vine Street in North Berkeley emphasize unique, artisan-production, and it's bounty of sidewalk cafes, flower stands, and fine food purveyors lend the area a European ambiance.
Telegraph Avenue: TELEGRAPH AVENUE- Historic Telegraph Avenue, adjacent to UC's central Sproul Plaza, is a center for culture, intellectual pursuit through its many independent book stores, and diversity. Telegraph also features world-famous music stores and vintage clothing stores. Some of the city's best ethnic dining is available just a few blocks south of Sproul Plaza right on Telegraph.
Lots of space and sun in this apt. We loved the view (yes, there is a small view from the 1st floor apartment) towards San Francisco and the palm trees outside from the couch every afternoon. We stayed here two nights in March 2009 after a two months journey and the location of this place made it possible to go sightseeing in Berkeley by foot in the morning, swing by to relax a couple of hours, and go out for dinner in the evening, fantastic.
Another great thing was that Ada the owner was very helpful and flexible with us.
The kitchen has all you need and more, though we didn't use it much with the Gourmet Ghetto so close. Heaters made the temperature comfortable. This is an old apt - some might find it a little worn out or old fashioned (all furniture is new though) but we kinda liked the feel of an old Berkeley place. I give it four stars, to earn the five stars, in my opinion, it would need a renovation and a king size bed in the bedroom in stead of a queen.
My husband, 18-month-old daughter and I stayed in #1707 for a long weekend, visiting my brother who is in grad school at Cal. We loved our stay and this excellent location was one of the biggest reasons why. It was such an easy walk to campus, down to the restaurants on Shattuck or to grab the BART into San Francisco. The bedroom allowed for plenty of room for my husband and I, as well as for our daughter's pack & play. We will definitely return and hope to stay again! Thanks Ada!
In the best location in Berkeley, near lots of good restaurants, a spacious apartment with all amenities, received in mint condition. Wi-fi, cable tv, stereo with good records, good kitchen and bathroom, tourist guides, Ada, the owner, is very nice and helpful. We are a mature couple, used to renting apartments for vacations. This one was the best we ever rented. We stayed for three weeks with a car, and Ada provided a parking place for us.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Oxford Street Apartment. The place is charming, clean, comfortable, and spacious. The decor is tasteful and the apartment is furnished with all necessities. Convenient location, safe neighborhood. The manager, Ada, was wonderful and extremely helpful. Highly recommended. We have already booked the place for another stay!
I stayed in apartment 1701 for a month while working at the university and waiting for my long-term rental apartment to be available. It is a lovely place furnished with everything you could need to feel at home. Just one block from the university, and with a bus to Tilden park stopping right outside the door, the location is perfect. Ada was friendly and helpful. The only thing I would change is the shower, which gave a rather pathetic dribble of water, despite multiple spray settings.
I've recommended this place to all my friends who might visit Berkeley. It was very clean, spacious, had all the facilities (kitchen, bedroom, living room) that one might need. Ada (landlady, who was lovely and accommodating) even had a high chair for our toddler! The only negative thing was the creaky wooden flooring and also that you could hear the upstairs tenets walking around - but that's the nature of apartment living (even the case in hotels). All in all, It was more comfortable than a hotel! We would definitely stay here again when we're in town.
