We rented both houses since we had over 16 of us all together, plus probably another 12 day guests and this place was amazing for our reunion. The beach is huge, and the house was great with so many family members. We plan to come again, not as big a crowd, but we will see you next summer! -Al, Eden and the rest of the crew
This Estate and experience surpassed all of my expectations! We very comfortably hosted our bridal party and parents in both properties and had room to spare! The classic stylings and decor were the perfect backdrop to the sprawling trees and nature. The private beach was truly a delightful oasis from city life. We also explored nearby horseback riding and a distillery tour. Jason, the property manager, was very pleasant and helpful. Thanks for a dream wedding come true! I look forward to staying here for years to come!
We stayed in this home for a weekend with 7 adults and 10 kids ranging from 9 months to 7 years old. There was ample space for the kids to run around both outdoors and indoors. Home doesn't have air conditioning but with it being on the lake, the house was almost too cold with the windows open. Great for large groups!
I brought a group of 12 "mature" adults here for a 4-night weekend, and we all totally fell in love with the place! Jason was a very attentive manager, available to answer even the smallest questions before and during our stay. I'd done lots of research in advance from home (Illinois, near to the Wisconsin border), so we had SO much to see and do in our short time there. We hit a very cool, gigantic craft fair, walked in the forest preserves to see the autumn leaves, had 2 microbrewery lunches, about 8 assorted winery tours and tastings, cooked fabulous breakfasts each morning, cozied up by the main fireplace (of several in the home) each night, and even had the chance to have a little bonfire outside. The property is visually breathtaking...massive, completely and utterly secluded, with an air of grace and charm from a bygone era. The kitchen (with maid's quarters) was abundantly stocked with every utensil, pot, pan, and accessory imaginable. The bathrooms worked well and we never ran out of hot water, even with a crowd our size.
With so many people bringing their favorite foods, beverages, etc. to feed all of us for 4 days, we could definitely have used either a larger kitchen refrigerator or an auxiliary frig (suggestion: get a nice used one at a garage sale and tuck it somewhere...maybe in that angled closet under the staircase?), and I requested curtains or shades be put on the large 4-twin-bedroom windows, both exterior AND interior windows, for more privacy and less early morning light, as well as adding a wall or dresser mirror in the only bedroom that didn't have one (mine!). Both super simple fixes! I am planning to book this lovely home again for this October, and guarantee you too will fall madly in love with it, the ambience, the villages, the friendly locals, and the awesome restaurants and wineries!
We gave this an enthusiastic 24 THUMBS UP! :-)
Longacres Estate and the Big House have been home for our early fall long weekend getaway now for 6 years in a row and this year was no exception. We had our crew up and everyone enjoyed pitching in cooking in the large country kitchen with all the windows open and a great breeze coming through. We had both grills going with 2" steaks from Faladic's and sweet corn, plus surrounded by great family and friends. The house is not fancy, but it is large, clean and has plenty of historical charm as it is almost 100 years old (built by Mr. Warren of Warren Dunes).
The property manager had everything ready when we arrived and was able to answer some questions we had about where to find fire wood for the beach, extra towels and a specific store I was looking for to buy premium steaks.
This is one of the grandest homes around on one of the last great un-broken estates left in southwest Michigan and we love coming here every year for our "big chill" weekend!
We've stayed at this property for the last several years and have enjoyed every year. We will absolutely continue to come back. The beach is truly incredible, with over 100 feet of private beach. The house is big, spacious and great for families. It is the perfect place for kids of all ages with the beach and the huge front yard. Every year the kids have exciting games of capture the flag, and baseball in the front yard and then head to beach for a swim. We like to sit in the little screen beach house and watch the sunset. It is beach living at its best and we can't wait for next summer!
