Welcome to River Roost.
Everything in this privately owned and managed home speaks of bright, clean, cozy comfort. Sunlight streams over the gleaming hardwood floors of this open concept design which is tastefully furnished with antiques and polished rosewood. The living room invites you to relax with a glass of wine while listening to your favourite music. A clean, bright fully equipped kitchen awaits you with all amenities - full sized refrigerator, 30 inch stove, dishwasher and microwave ensure quick and easy food preparation. Laundry facilities and a treadmill are located on the lower level.
Your eye will travel over the beautiful gardens and well kept grounds, to the bank of the Jock River where a heron is frequently seen during the summer. Beavers, otters and ducks have been regularly spotted in the river, which is large enough for wildlife, but too small for motorized watercraft. Beyond the river lies quiet parkland.
This home seems to be of interest to grandparents visiting their families in Kanata and Nepean as well close to Ottawa.

About Carol McCarthy
Hello, our names are Roger and Carol McCarthy. In 1996, with an large empty nest, we began to look for a cute little house to downsize into. After two years of Sunday drives we came across River Roost. I stepped three steps into the front hall and turned to Roger and said, "This is it!" We have never regretted our decision to move here in June 1998. When I retired in 2010, we began spending more time at our cottage on a small lake. Rather than let River Roost sit empty, we made the decision to share it with guests who wanted a quiet escape to a small town. We have enjoyed getting to know people from many parts of the world. River Roost seems to appeal to grandparents who come to the Ottawa area to visit family. As grandparents ourselves, we understand the need to enjoy the family, but have quiet space to rejuvenate and a good night's sleep. When the house is not rented, we often use it to visit with our family and grandchildren. We will meet you upon arrival and give you a tour of our property, answering any questions you may have. They will also check in with you after a few days to make sure all is well.
Why Carol McCarthy chose Richmond
This is a quiet and unique home that seems to have a soul. It will quickly feel like your home away from home. It is bright, clean and comfortable. It is within easy drive to attractions in Ottawa as well as drives in the country to small towns where you will get a real feel for the history and beauty of Ontario. It is a quiet area with the Jock River running behind the house and a park across the river. When the leaves come out in the spring, other homes are not visible from the back of the house. What you may see is the wildlife that frequents the river. At times, we have seen a great blue heron, beavers, otters and a fox that visited for a few years and moved on. Bullfrogs sing in June when the evenings are warm. It is on the Homeaway site because we spend our time at our cottage right now. But we don't want to give up this special home.
What makes this House unique
It is a great design. It was built as a "wartime house" in 1947 and totally redesigned in 1996. A curved oak staircase leads to a the master bedroom loft with a queen bed. A bathroom with shower is also on this level. The second bedroom is located in an extension to the original house. This has a full/double bed and has a full bathroom adjacent to it. This room also doubles as a TV room. As a door separates the main part of the house from the extension, it gives privacy to both bedroom sections of the home. Over the years, we have improved the house, both inside and out, with a number of updates to maintain a pleasant and attractive home. The bench by the river calls to us for our morning coffee or afternoon tea.

Cozy, peaceful and so well equipped!!
This little gem in the country just outside of Ottawa was a real find. We felt so "at home" there. The house was amazingly well equipped, nothing at all was missing and since the owners lived/live there occasionally, the house is furnished and equipped for comfort and convenience. It is also impeccably clean. The property seems so peaceful with the little river running through the back of the yard. We used the property as a base while we visited our daughter and family in South Ottawa--couldn't have worked better!!
Thank you, Jim. We appreciate the information that you have passed on to others. We are so fortunate to have guests like Jim and his wife who treat our home as they would their own. We are pleased when grandparents use River Roost as a home base while visiting family in the area. As grandparents ourselves, we know how important it is to be close. Come back again, Jim.
Very convenient location. Exceptionally clean and well organized. Owners are a pleasure to work with.
Thank you Ron and Lynda. It was a pleasure to know that you were using our home base to visit with family. That is what we enjoy about so many of our guests. Look forward to having you return to River Roost!

River Roost Retreat!
Hi Carol & Roger:
Wow! For once the pictures of your beautiful home were great on the web but the house and grounds outdid the pictures. Our great first impression stayed with us the whole 3 weeks we had the pleasure of being in your lovely home.
We were definitely so pleased to immediately see the home was very clean and so well equipped and everything was so well organized with your notes etc.
We had great visits with family at your beautiful warm retreat and it warmed our hearts to be outside with our little Granddaughter and showing her all the geese, blue heron, turtles etc.
This was our very best homeaway rental and we hope to return again if we get the opportunity.
Thank you Again!
Harold & Joanne
Thank you, Harold and Joanne. Grandparents visiting their family continue to be an important part of River Roost. We are happy to offer a clean, comfortable and quiet home after a busy day with those special little people.
We loved the photos on the HomeAway website but did not expect how exceptional this property was until we arrived. I can't say enough good things about our stay. The house was immaculate, fully equipped, and comfortable. The location was perfect and peaceful. Right on the river so we enjoyed much of our time on the patio. Carol was very attentive making sure everything was okay for us. Wish I could live there. Close to Ottawa and wonderful scenic back roads to many areas. All in all a beautiful vacation. You can't go wrong selecting this beautiful property.
Thank you, Jean. Your kind words are very much appreciated. Once again, our home was the base for a long awaited vacation to Ottawa. Thank you for recognizing our effort. Please come again. Carol
Wonderful place to stay!
We stayed at River Roost for 8 days and could not have asked for a better place. The house is super clean and well-decorated. It has everything you need, even condiments, sugar, spices, which makes it easy to cook. The area is quiet and the view of the river is a plus. It is super easy to travel to the capitale. The owners are genuinely concerned about making our stay a good and comfortable experience. We would certainly go back.
Thank you. We love to see our home used to bring families together. Grandparents are a special part of the Homeaway experience for us. Roger and Carol
