The weather was fine,
We read the whole guestbook
We drank lots of wine.
We're reading departure
And eating some chips
Pete knows construction
He's giving us tips.
We like how the sky stretches out on all sides
The sun comes out sometimes
And sometimes it hides.
We like all the cacti
Antlers and masks
We even lliked doing
The clean up crew tasks.
But, Sun Dancer, baby,
We've gotta depart
But we leave behind
A piece of our......
I'm not sure how to end this.
Today we traveled to Etlan, Virginia where we spent the weekend at Sun Dancer. The property where Spirit Dancer, Sun Dancer and Star Dancer Lodges are located borders on the Shenandoah National Park. This weekend we had no cell phone or Internet connections.
These days, we are all used to instant connection via mobile phone or computer. It is technology that makes this possible but when technology is unavailable, we are forced to connect in ways that rely only on face-to-face time where spaces are filled with hugs, discussions and actually doing things together.
At night I went outside, listened to the silence above, and saw more stars than I could count. Looking up, I felt a connection to these distant bright balls of gas that inspired people long ago to create pictures and stories by connecting the dots in the sky. Other humans far away also look up at these distant points of light and, like me, are awed. In a way, during our lifetime, we are all our own stars secured to the earth by gravity and given the task of connecting the dots, the spaces among ourselves.
My father once asked my husband about his philosophy of afterlife. My husband told him he believes we are made of stardust and that when we die, we become part of the universe.
"The cosmos is within us. We are made of star-stuff. We are a way for the universe to know itself.” ~ Carol Sagan
What a gift we had this past weekend--millions of points of light.
I just returned from a wonderful, relaxing, weekend vacation @ the Sun Dancer. The pictures on your website did not do justice to the gorgeous scenery views and lodge accommodations. Not only was the location perfect but the home owner, Geri, was perfect to work- so accountable and accomodating!
Our group had wonderful weather the entire weekend and enjoyed exploring Old Rag Mt, wine tasting at Sharp Rock Winery, sipping cocktails on the deck while playing board games, and meandering through the Copper Fox Distillery. A great time was had by all who attended and we all cannot wait to rent this location again.
WOW, WOW and WOW!
We spent the weekend at SunDancer for my daughter and future son in laws "last fling before the ring". From the minute you drive up and see the house on the hill you know it's going to be good. But the minute you walk thru the door - just stunning.
The house is decorated beautifully. I can't even begin to describe the hand hewn walls, the amazing decorations in each of the rooms, the bathrooms are a decorator's dream. The knick knacks - and the game room down stairs - incredible.
The view is to die for. Sitting on the huge deck overlooking the valley and mountains is just breathtaking.
Did I mention the house is HUGE? we had 16 people and no one was on top of each other.
We'd love to spend another weekend at SunDancer - the house was stunning and the time there fabulous.
Girls went to a few wineries (Boot camp at Little Washington was perfect and then a private wine tasting at Quievremont) and the boys went tubing.
Wow!! What a wonderful weekend! Our daughter got married this weekend. We live out of state & were referred to this site. While we rented the house for the weekend, we also had the rehearsal dinner on Saturday. Our Bridal party, Grooms family extended members were taken aback by the whole experience! The lodge, the spacious rooms, more than enough seating for dinner and the decks with more stars than you could imagine. When you say a full kitchen, you are true to form.
My Husband leaving everything to me & was so happy with the outcome! From the views, the beautiful mornings & the hot tub as we were gathering our clothes, kitchen items, dishes and what-nots! (He really did most of that, so when he mentioned Hot Tub, I told him to take as long as he wanted!)
We bought solar lights and placed them on either side of the drive, which not only aided people up the drive, from the deck it made a regal impression for all.
My extended family were so impressed & said we should make it a yearly reunion spot!
Thank you so much! While the wedding was breathtaking, heart melting and unbelievably memorable, the stay at your lodge added so much. Our Daughter & new Son sent us a message that read: from minute one, our new life was magical!
Thank you a hundred times! If you want somewhere that offers every measure of the Shennandoah experience with warmth and comforts, come on down!
Have to admit after reading the disgruntled review from the person with food on the utensils and bugs we were a little apprehensive, but after staying there for a weekend I have come to the conclusion that Ms disgruntled would find something wrong with a five star Hotel. This get away is exactly that, a beautiful country home with a million dollar view. Has all of the amenities that one has at home and we experienced no bugs, tv worked everything was perfect. Very clean, will definitely come back and I recommend it everyone.
Stayed here with a group of friends earlier this summer to celebrate a birthday. Everyone raved about how beautiful it was and continues to do so a month later. The house itself is wonderful - large and beautifully appointed with plenty of beds and bathrooms - and the land surrounding it is lush and verdant and peaceful. We spent our days biking and running and hiking and then cooked amazing dinners in the enormous kitchen. Best of all was the profusion of fireflies that appeared once the sun had set. I haven't seen that many fireflies since I was a kid. It was a wonderful weekend.

There are many scheduled events, festivals, & activities throughout the year. There are world class (Inn of Little Washington) to down home restaurants within 5-25 miles.
