This spectacular vacation compound on Lake Travis is ideal for groups of families, friends or business associates. The compound consists of two adjacent properties, Moriah and Farr Side, which have houses approximately 50 yards apart.
The first property, Moriah, offers a huge timber-frame building for central living, dining and a gourmet kitchen designed for multiple cooks while two authentic 1850's log cabins provide four private bedrooms. Each of the three historic buildings which make up Moriah have a porch with a lake view.
Moriah has been meticulously restored into a private retreat in the heart of the Texas Hill Country. Moriah has been featured in the Austin American Statesman, Country Home Magazine and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
The second property, Farr Side, consists of two large buildings. One has three bedrooms, a sleeping loft, two full bathrooms, a living area, a large kitchen and sleeps twelve. A huge, inviting porch offers a view of the lake. The second building consists of two very large bedrooms, two full bathrooms and a massive living area complete with a pool table, game table and a sitting area with satellite television. A second porch offers a sitting area and ping pong table.
Both Moriah and Farr Side have a private dock and stunning views of the lake, combined they have 500 feet of private waterfront. A gentle slope leads to the water, only 240 feet from the houses.
Together, the two properties sit on seven secluded acres in the Texas Hill Country on Lake Travis located only eight miles from Marble Falls.

In 2000 we (three sisters and our husbands) purchased these two properties to accommodate our large family gatherings. We had been disappointed over the years with the facilities we had found to accommodate our vacations together. In designing Moriah and Farr Side, we took the best features of the various places we had visited to create a compound specifically for several families to vacation together with ease.
We chose this location because there are activities for people of all ages. Volleyball, ping pong, swimming, boating, walking in the country, sitting on the porch - no one is ever bored. Located just one hour from Austin, it is easy to get away even for just a weekend.
We love that the seven acres and five buildings allow a large group to gather together yet have space to break into smaller groups for various activities or quiet moments. We also love that most of the bedrooms are in separate buildings so that those who are sleeping aren’t disturbed by the people who are awake - no matter how boisterous they become. The kitchen at Moriah is optimized for multiple cooks offering two sinks, two dishwashers and two refrigerators.
We chose Moriah and Farr Side for a reunion of old college friends who now all have kids. The kids loved the space to run around, learning to fish, playing games and roasting s'mores in the fire pit while us adults appreciated the comfortable bed, large kitchens and separate spaces for hanging out after the kids went to bed. We can't wait to go back!
Moriah and Farr provided the right place for our large group to meet. It had enough sleeping areas that were comfortable. We had access to the ping pong table, pool table, TV and games. It provided a large meeting area with a large kitchen and all the items needed. The view of the lake brought much peace and tranquility. Even though it rained the whole time we were there we still had a wonderful time of eating, sharing, and relaxing. We would do it again.
We rented out both properties for four nights for our ~70 person wedding and it was the perfect venue. Did the rehearsal dinner, wedding, and reception all on property. We had our wedding party stay with us for the nights preceding the wedding to help with decoration and enjoy the beautiful property. Out-of-town guests either stayed in Austin and drove up (a little over an hour) or stayed at the La Quinta in Marble Falls (~15 min drive). Nancy and Sarah were great to interact with and were very helpful throughout.
We chose this place because it was a little more of a blank slate than a lot of the venues we looked at. The infrastructure is there to be an event venue but it's clearly laid out to be more of a gathering place about 30 people rather than the 70 we had for the wedding. I think we had 32 people staying there at its fullest. With that amount the property would have been fine as is but required some legwork to comfortably seat and party the entire 70-person wedding.
We had live music in what we referred to as "The Barn" (the main building on the Moriah Side) Friday and Saturday night. The space has great acoustics, but we had to move all of the furniture to the walls to make room for dancing. We had a three-piece (sax, bass, guitar) and a four-piece bluegrass band (Bottom Dollar String Band out of Austin). I was definitely surprised at how well the place handled the sound and think it could do something heavier (like with a drum set) but apparently loud late night music can be an issue with neighbors so I'd be hesitant to bring in a band that was too loud. We had no problems with the bluegrass band playing till midnight or so. We provided a number for the neighbors to call us directly if there were any issues. The tall ceilings and wood interior do a lot to absorb without being too reverby, and you could hear comfortably in the fire pit area.
Food was catered by Vanilla Orchid out of Austin, they prepped everything beforehand and used the kitchen in Moriah to cook all of it onsite, came out fantastic. There's a service entry area on the western side of the property that was very helpful.
Rentals were through Marquee out of Austin, they charged like $600 extra to deliver out to Marble Falls but got a bunch of quality tables, dinnerware, and glassware so it was all good.
We did the bar ourselves, photographer was Olivia Vale. All vendors are highly recommended and now know the property well.
Our family of 23 had a fabulous reunion at this property. It is the best of both worlds, there are places where everyone can be together, but there is also enough room for people to have their own space. There really is something for everyone, no matter their age. There is volleyball, ping pong, foosball, and billiards. You can also just relax in a hammock in the yard or in a rocking chair on the porch. We brought our boat and were able to launch it just up the road and dock it at the house. The houses are fully stocked with anything you could possibly need or want during your stay. The property and buildings are very well maintained. Nancy is an absolute pleasure to work with. We cannot recommend this property enough.
We had a fantastic family reunion. With 23 Adults and 6 Children we all had comfortable accommodations with plenty of space. The main lodge at Moriah was perfect to gather for meals and to hang out. The Lake was great for fishing and swimming and there was plenty of tree cover to enjoy being outside even during the heat of the day. I would recommend this compound for any large family or friendly gatherings.
It was perfect for our family!
