We bought this beautiful five acre property in 2001, when the only access was to swim in. In 2006, a visionary local architect fulfilled our idea of a nature oriented home that blended with its natural setting.

What makes this Villa unique
Casa Estrella del Mar is not the glitziest home in SJDS. If you want complete privacy in a tranquil natural setting, with direct access to a secluded beach, in a masterfully crafted and detailed home, yet only a five minute drive on a private road to downtown SJDS, we might have just what you seek.

Amazing and Unique Home and Experience
The communication before and during our stay with the owners was fantastic, they were extremely helpful and detailed not only with regard to the house, but with recommendations on places, activities and transportation.
We had a truly unique experience, which is what I was looking for.. It took us a bit to adjust to the drive to the house, staying in an limited electricity, and no a/c home, but these were all things we knew about when booking the house, were part of the overall experience in the end, and we figured it out quickly.
The location, view, and design of the house are all amazing and unique. My only request would have been to have screens on the doors so that you could leave those open without worries of letting bugs and critters in, but I am sure there are reasons I am not aware of for whey that may not be possible.
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to experience Nicaragua from you amazing home, and giving us great memories of a fantastic trip.
Fantastic house; Fantastic location
My family and I loved our stay at this house near San Juan. Amazing house -- great design, great view, great location (just outside San Juan but quiet and cool). You will need a 4x4 when staying here -- the road to the house is unpaved and really steep. Rent a Land Cruiser and driving to the beach and home again will be half the fun of your vacation! There is a great Nicaraguan couple (Pedro and Maria) who take great care of you and the house while you are there. The pool is sublime.
Best vacation house I have ever rented!
Great house, amazing ocean view!
A great way to experience SJDS for a group of friends or family that want peace and quiet while staying close to town. Great stay!
Perfect home in paradise
The pictures do not do this house justice, it was so beautiful! One of the best views you can find overlooking the ocean on a private cove. We stayed here for our honeymoon and could not have had a better time or asked for a better place to spend our time! While being only five minutes from town you feel you remote and secluded without feeling isolated. This house is extremely private and romantic. It is by far one of the best locations in SJDS. The owners are so great and helpful and readily available to answer any questions. The caretakers, Pedro and Maria are also so so helpful. SJDS is a great little town with tons of good restaurants and activities but we wanted something a bit less busy and more private and this house was the best of both worlds. If you are coming to SJDS this is the place to book! It exceeded all our expectations and we can't wait to come back!
Exceeded expectations, 5/5.
Our stay was absolutely wonderful. The view was gorgeous and the house was clean and comfortable. The beach was great for exploring and the sea and pool were a nice way to cool off from the mid day heat. I recommend this house highly. The location is very close to SJDS but far enough away to feel complete seclusion and quiet. Pedro and Maria were very lovely. The owner was very friendly and accommodating. 5 stars from us!
Thanks Rob! We are so glad you had a good stay at Casa Estrella del Mar. Please come stay with us again.
The pictures online don't do this beautiful home justice. Casa Estrella is a stunning home perched on a hill, just above a secluded cove. The beach is rocky here (and full of beautiful shells), but there is a sandy beach a short walk to the left. Be sure and rent a Toyota Land Cruiser from "Irish John" as this home is at the end of a private dirt road, just a mile or so from town. We walked into town several times just for exercise, but found it useful to have a FJ40 4x4 for getting around. We saw dozens of howler monkeys and scores of beautiful birds in the yard every morning. As the owner says, it is an Eco-home, and solar-powered which means no A/C, but the fans and fresh breeze kept us comfortable even on the warmest days. On our 2nd day we found a fisherman down at the Marina and bought Tuna, and Corvina. Added some chopped tomatoes, onions, cilantro, and fresh lime juice for some of the best ceviche we've ever had. The home was cleaned meticulously every day by the staff who live on the property in a guest home just behind the main house. Take surf lessons with Dario's company
http://www.sanjuandelsursurf.com/ and you'll be catching waves in no time. We are complete novices but enjoyed 3 days of surfing at nearby Marsella Beach. If you're looking for a 5 star home, with air-conditioning, a country club atmosphere, golf, and "Hamptons" feel, go the Hamptons. If you're looking for an adventurous, safe, naturally beautiful place that is out of the way, that's quiet, peaceful, rejuvenating... Casa Estrella (and Nicaragua) is the place to go. We'll be back next year for sure.
San Juan del Sur is the center of a spectacular and relatively unspoiled coastline that some have compared to a tropical Big Sur. World-class surfing, sailing, fishing, and other water activities abound. The area has started to attract American and Canadian tourists and expatriates, resulting in a variety of excellent gourmet restaurants and fun bars at affordable prices. Jungle canopy zipline, horseback riding, yoga, spas, massage, birding and beachcombing are among other amenities. Nearby Ometepe offers island volcanoes - a contender for natural wonders of the world. The area offers a great combination of Western food and amenities in an amazing natural setting, yet still retains its pre-commercialization fishing village feel. People are friendly and helpful.
