Overview

About the property

1 bedroom, 1 bath (another shower outside), foldout couch in LR, sleeps 4

Our cottage is a waterfront gem on Narragansett Bay, located on the neck of Prudence Island, overlooking Bristol Harbor to the east and Potters Cove to the west. We have our own stairway leading to a private beach below and we have a 300 lb. mooring for your boat. Down our lane and across the street is a lovely, quiet sandy beach perfect for morning walks or runs, skinny dipping and quahogging. The outdoor shower is perfect when returning from the beach. Our large backyard is surrounded by a 6 foot cedar fence leaving 100 feet of uniquely private uninterrupted, panoramic views of the bay. These bay views can be enjoyed off of the large waterside deck, on the sleepy hammock or in front of the fire pit.

House Layout: Hardwood floors throughout, our home is a quaint, one-bedroom cottage with a queen-size bed and pull out couch which sleeps two. The kitchen is galley with granite counter tops. The bathroom has a stack-able washer and dryer and custom tiled shower.

The Basics: A ferry is required to get to and from Prudence. There are no shops or restaurants on the island. There is one general store and a few local farm stands. The house is two miles from the ferry homestead in a very private neighborhood. Prudence is perfect for sailing, boating, beach combing, walking and biking. Since many of the roads are unpaved it is suggested to bring your mountain bike. With a large backyard and sprawling views of the bay, our property is an ideal venue for small, private wedding ceremonies (2 so far!).

Bristol: The ferry leaves from downtown Bristol, Rhode Island. Bristol is an historic harborside town speckled with quaint shops, restaurants, bars and ice cream stands. Bristol offers a convenient excursion for our guests as it is not necessary to bring your car. You need only leave your vehicle at the ferry homestead and walk right onto the ferry.

Surpassed Almost All Expectations

  • 5 of 5

First of all, it's tough to find a dog-friendly vacation rental to go along with your preferred location and price range. The owners were very accommodating with bringing our 2 dogs, which was absolutely necessary since my pooch is epileptic, and it wasn't possible to leave him anywhere for a week. The back lawn is really well-fenced and perfect for what we needed.

If you're looking for a spot away from the hustle-bustle of most of our daily experiences, then you won't be disappointed. Prudence Island only has one general store, and it's important to come prepared with plenty of food stuffs and drinks (the store doesn't sell alcohol, but you can get deliveries via Viola's in Bristol. It's only $5 on top of the beer/wine/liquor cost, comes in on the ferry, and I wish we'd discovered this before our last night at the property). The cell signal is good, but there isn't an internet connection, which was totally fine for us. You can do almost anything on smartphones now, and who wants to be in front of a computer while you're on vacation anyway?!? The island is naturally isolated because of it's dependence on the ferry, and the home is on a lesser populated part of the island as well. If offers a lot of privacy (although, there are neighbors on each side), but mingling with locals and other vacationers was awesome too. It immediately caught out attention that absolutely everyone on Prudence Island waves and smiles as you pass by. On the 2 mile drive (approx.) between the property and the ferry, you can expect 9 out of every 10 passing drivers, bicyclists, or other passerby to throw you a wave and a smile. All the kindness truly didn't feel superficial. It was more of a throwback to a small town, welcoming nature, which was backed up by the helpful and genuine affect that we'd seen during longer interactions with the folks around. Having never spent time in the area, we had a lot of questions (logistical and otherwise). The home owners, the ferry staff, the local water taxi owner, and the staff at the local businesses went out of their way to give advice.

The house itself was well-maintained and very comfortable. Everything was spick-and-span when we arrived after a long drive. The AC unit was even running when we got there, and it cools the house very well. The owners really seemed to care about making sure many peripheral aspects of the house were quality. Loved the outdoor shower!

Really, really hoping to come back!!

Amazing spot

  • 5 of 5

This property is incredible. Upon entrance you feel millions of miles away as your stress instantly fades. We spent our days walking the island with our dog, our evenings kayaking and our nights by the fire pit.

Make sure to bring whatever you need for food, drink, and coffee. Also bug spray is essential. Ticks on the island are awful so bring long pants. Luckily we did not have an issue with ticks in the yard.

Finally, the owners are amazing, easy to work with and readily available.

A perfect vacation

  • 5 of 5

This was our first trip to Prudence Island and it was love at first sight. The house is cozy and the views are spectacular. Our dog loved the fenced in yard and we were so happy to bring him along. Prudence Island is a perfect spot to get away from it all and truly relax. Thank you to Jim and Kristin for sharing your beautiful home. We can't wait to visit again!

My husband and I had a wonderful time at this quaint little cottage and would definitely come back. It's perfect for a long weekend for two and I could look at that view forever.

True R & R

  • 5 of 5

This is a great cozy house with a nice deck on back overlooking the yard and water! Also very private with fenced yard so you can bring your best friend (your dog!). We only stayed 2 nights, but it was so relaxing with the panoramic views & beautiful sunrises in the morning, that we will be going back for a full week at some point! This is truly an outstanding & beautiful location!

Peaceful, relaxing, and scenic

  • 5 of 5

Thank you to Kristin and Jim for renting their quaint cottage to us. It especially meant so much to us that we were able to travel with our four-legged companion. We all had a wonderful time exploring the island again, and the cottage was the perfect spot in which to comfortably relax after long days of hiking. Its location (on the neck) is secluded and private. The pictures can't capture what a breathtaking and expansive view there is from the back yard. We didn't bring a car to the island, and we were able to walk to the cottage from the Homestead ferry in about 45 minutes (with full backpacks). For avid hikers, it is a perfectly do-able walk. Do follow Kristin and Jim's helpful recommendations. We were glad that we brought a lot of drinking water with us. The outdoor shower was a delight -- even in the cold air! Thanks again!
