Overview

County Clare House Rental Photos and Description

3 bedrooms (one queen, two twin), 3 full baths, sleeps 6

This beautiful home in Doolin, Ireland was built in 1998 as a traditional, thatched-roof, Irish cottage and contains all modern amenities.

Each of the bedrooms is en suite, with antique pine furniture. The master bedroom has a queen size bed and the two guest rooms each have twin beds. The master bath has a bathtub and shower. The house has wireless access.

The Great Room has a two story fireplace, conveniently gas fired. There is a panoramic conservatory with 180 degree views, including Cecil B. Demille sunsets.

The cottage is well planted with a berm to the west, giving privacy and a profusion of flowering plants.

The view from the house was featured in the September 2007 issue of Conde Nast Traveler magazine. The striking Doonagore Castle, one of the most photographed castles in Ireland, is located immediately down the hill from the cottage and is framed by the conservatory windows. A round tower built c.1350, Doonagore Castle was entirely restored in 1975.

The cottage is surrounded by grazing cattle, lending another level of tranquility to the idyllic setting.

A circular driveway brings guests close to the front door, should there ever be inclement weather! We joke that our favorite occupation is sitting in the conservatory and watching the weather change.

When the cottage was being built, one of the builders suggested naming the cottage. He said we should name it Draiocht, which means a magical, marvelous place and it is.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We loved it! I used to think the Oregon coast was about the prettiest spot of this earth, but not any more. We had he most beautiful weather - every day - and just loved staying in your beautiful home. And that stove of yours - awesome. I do all the cooking for our gang and that was the first item in your book that I studied. Our whole time in Ireland was great. The Doolin area was a high point - and we really enjoyed our boat trip out to Inis Oirr and the cliffs of moher, and the walking tour of the Burren with Shane. We also went to Dysert O'dea and then I studied your book of the Irish Round Towers. Awesome. What a view from your conservatory windows! Thanks again for allowing us to stay in your home. One day we hope to return.

Incredible!

  • 5 of 5

From the minute we arrived, we were all giddy with excitement that we had scored such a fantastic location for our stay in Doolin. The Lynch house is an incredible vacation home. The layout is extremely comfortable, with bedrooms at opposite ends of the house, open living areas, and plenty of bathrooms. And the view. The view is unsurpassed. The other reviewers have pretty much summed up how wonderful this home is. We had a fabulous time and I would highly recommend staying here if you have the opportunity.

Wow, Wow, Wow!

  • 5 of 5

We adored staying in the elegant thatched roof cottage. It was a thrill to look out the solarium windows every morning to see Doonagore Castle (aka 'our castle') and the beautiful ocean view. We walked down the lane, daily, for a closer look. The cottage is as beautiful on the inside as on the outside. We enjoyed having bedrooms on both sides of the house, separated by the common areas, as this gave us and the other couple we were traveling with space and privacy. The Cliffs of Moher and Gus O'Connor's Pub in town helped to round out a perfect trip. Thank you so much, Elizabeth!

Twice a visitor - perpetually in love with the place

  • 5 of 5

For the 2nd year, my children and I spent US Thanksgiving holiday at this gem in Doolin.

I've always loved Doolin and the opportunity for us to relax in such a setting has been marvelous.

Though we've been there in late November both visits, they were equally spectacular. In 2013, unexpectedly good weather for the entire week meant we could almost see people walking on the Aran Islands from the house. Cliff side walks (all the way to the Cliffs of Moher) were unbelievable. In 2015, the weather began more typically - then an offshore storm transformed Doolin and the cliffs to the south into a raging, crazed ocean - the power of the sea was unforgettable.

The house is very well laid out and equipped. But its the setting that can't be beat. Tell everyone how great it is but tell no-one (so I can continue to escape to this gem).

The most memorable place in all of Ireland!

  • 5 of 5

We were very lucky to find such an enchanting spot on the west coast very near the Cliffs of Moher. The house is everything we'd imagined and more. The views are the best and definitely magical. Sun up to Sun down. Loved seeing the tower and sheep out the back and watching the weather change. Doolin itself is very special from the music just down the hill at O'Connors Pub to the warm, friendly, and sincere people who inhabit this very special place. Beds were comfortable and roomy with nice linens. The whole house is open and inviting. Excellent books on Ireland and the area. Everything divine. Did not want to leave and will definitely return!!

Simply Amazing!

  • 5 of 5

When you walk in the door you simply can't believe the incredible views you are facing! The Lynch family has thought of just about everything to make your stay comfortable and magical. The master bed was the most comfortable bed we stayed in while traveling through Ireland. We stayed 3 nights with another couple and had it not been our first trip to Ireland we would have loved to stay longer. Not only is the the house a great place to call home base but the village of Doolin was most charming. We loved the people and enjoyed exploring County Clare, the cliffs and the Aran Islands. If you are near County Clare you should stay in the "Elegant Cottage in Doolin" that captured our hearts!

Dream Come True

  • 5 of 5

The Lynch home in Doolin is a magical place. It steals your breathe away when you walk in the door and then slows your whole being as you fall under its spell. We spent three wonderful weeks in the home using it as a base to explore the west coast of Ireland from Connemara to Loop Head. Each night we couldn't wait to come through the door and settle in to discuss the day's adventure while enjoying the peacefulness of the house and the extraordinary and changing views. This vacation was a dream come true. It was a gift to ourselves to celebrate retirement and 47 years of marriage. It met and far exceeded our every expectations. We have some forever memories and we thank the Lynch family for allowing us to borrow their family home.
