Overview

Doolin House Rental Photos and Description

3 bedrooms (one queen, two twin), 3 full baths, sleeps 6

This beautiful home in Doolin, Ireland was built in 1998 as a traditional, thatched-roof, Irish cottage and contains all modern amenities.

Each of the bedrooms is en suite, with antique pine furniture. The master bedroom has a queen size bed and the two guest rooms each have twin beds. The master bath has a bathtub and shower. The house has wireless access.

The Great Room has a two story fireplace, conveniently gas fired. There is a panoramic conservatory with 180 degree views, including Cecil B. Demille sunsets.

The cottage is well planted with a berm to the west, giving privacy and a profusion of flowering plants.

The view from the house was featured in the September 2007 issue of Conde Nast Traveler magazine. The striking Doonagore Castle, one of the most photographed castles in Ireland, is located immediately down the hill from the cottage and is framed by the conservatory windows. A round tower built c.1350, Doonagore Castle was entirely restored in 1975.

The cottage is surrounded by grazing cattle, lending another level of tranquility to the idyllic setting.

A circular driveway brings guests close to the front door, should there ever be inclement weather! We joke that our favorite occupation is sitting in the conservatory and watching the weather change.

When the cottage was being built, one of the builders suggested naming the cottage. He said we should name it Draiocht, which means a magical, marvelous place and it is.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We loved it! I used to think the Oregon coast was about the prettiest spot of this earth, but not any more. We had he most beautiful weather - every day - and just loved staying in your beautiful home. And that stove of yours - awesome. I do all the cooking for our gang and that was the first item in your book that I studied. Our whole time in Ireland was great. The Doolin area was a high point - and we really enjoyed our boat trip out to Inis Oirr and the cliffs of moher, and the walking tour of the Burren with Shane. We also went to Dysert O'dea and then I studied your book of the Irish Round Towers. Awesome. What a view from your conservatory windows! Thanks again for allowing us to stay in your home. One day we hope to return.

Spectacular Perch and Home for Our Family

  • 5 of 5

As others have noted, the view is spectacular. I could have watched it all day and it only got better if the weather changed as it made a storm or rough surf fascinating. On clear nights, the stars were amazing. The house was perfect for our family of four, with room for a few more. Three nice bathrooms. Beautifully decorated with cozy Irish touches, many local books, music, fireplace, games. We did not try the stove and really, just used the teapot and toaster and dishwasher, but the kitchen was fully equipped and there were even a few coolers and picnic baskets, hairdryer, fan, rain gear available, which we did not need. Location was perfect for visits to pubs of Doolin, Aran Islands, which we loved, Cliffs of Moher and drives to local towns. There are groceries a few miles in either direction to support our new two scone a day habit. Wifi worked fine, which the teenagers wanted, and all was quiet, simple and relaxing. The most excitement we had was when a local herding dog ran through the yard and we tried to pet him and he ran away. So we visited the cows nearby. We loved O'Connor's pub food and ate there two nights in a row. We didn't need any help or maintenance but there was a book with detailed instructions and a caretaker available. Everything was clean and bright! Perfect! Wish we were there now! Would love to return and have already sent the listing to others.

Beautiful Cottage, Spectacular Views, Quiet, cozy & Comfortable

  • 5 of 5

My husband, sister and I stayed at the Elegant Cottage in Doolin from August 17-24. We went back to Ireland for a family wedding in Liscannor & reception at the Doolin Hotel. When we checked into the cottage we were overwhelmed by the beauty inside & outside. It was decorated beautifully and was clean & tidy. The views from the sun room looking out to the Atlantic Ocean and Doonagore Castle are spectacular. The bed in the Master bedroom was very comfortable and the kitchen was very well stocked. The stove was fabulous. I hosted a dinner one night for all my Irish cousins & cooked tacos for 40 people. ( I am known for my tacos in California) I would recommend this home to my friend's & family. We all agree the Cottage in Doolin was the highlight of our trip to Ireland. Thank you , Elizabeth Lynch..Love, Pat, Richard & Maureen..California

Views, Comfort, and Tranquility in Doolin

  • 5 of 5

This was a perfectly wonderful house for my three friends and me as we celebrated a very special birthday. We felt so lucky to have found such a beautiful, well-maintained home with such dramatic views and masses of flowers blooming all around. We loved the curved sitting room but since it was chilly, we spent most mornings and evenings by the fire in the cozy living room. We were delighted by the Aga-style stove since my British friends have told me stories about them for years, but in the end we didn't try it out since the owner had thoughtfully provided a counter-top burner that suited our cooking needs just fine.

We walked into Doolin twice just for fun (2 miles or so) and took the ferry one day to the nearest Aran Island. Fantastic location. You can't go wrong if you choose this home for your vacation in Doolin.

Beautiful home, inside and out. Breathtaking loca

  • 5 of 5

Four of us found our experience in this wonderful home to be perfect and we would definitely rate it with 5 stars. The view of course is breathtaking, and the house was a natural fit with its surroundings. The decor is tasteful , comfortable , and very welcoming. Everything was very clean and tidy, and we had everything we needed upon arrival.

We found the temperature inside quite comfortable, and on the nights that had a bit of chill, we happily sat by the fire.

I have recommended the cottage to many friends who are planning to go to that area. The guest book was so full of entries, all complimentary, there wasn't room for us to write !

Beautiful Location But Cluttered, Unclean, Worn

  • 3 of 5

The location of this Doolin house was fantastic. The panoramic view from the sun room was spectacular and it was in close proximity to ferry to Aran Islands, the town of Doolin, and the Cliffs of Moher. The cottage was cute and quaint with the thatched room and farm house feel.

A few things could have made this house a four or five star: the heat was not working (temperatures were in the mid to upper 40's the first two nights) and it took 48 hours to get it working. We were forced to walk around the house in jackets and winter garments which made it very uncomfortable especially for my elderly parents traveling with us. We did appreciate the maintenance man coming to help immediately when called. In addition, cooking on the "stove" was a huge issue. It was an antique stove that did not have traditional burners and was completely impractical. To be clear, the "stove" is not only the stove to cook, but also the boiler that controls the heat for the house, and the water heater (thankfully, there was a back up electric water heater option and a gas fire place that helped somewhat). This "stove" was malfunctioning the first two days upon our arrival, so we had no house heat on account of it.

In addition, the house was also very cluttered with the personal items of the owner. There were coats, hats, and clothes shoved into drawers and closets all around the cottage and especially the master bedroom. Also old food was on the counter, used bars of soap were in all the bathrooms, and we found some candy wrappers on the floors and under the edges of beds. Dishes in the cupboards were chipped and some were actually dirty (we washed all dishes ourselves), and several light fixtures had light bulbs burned out.

This cottage had an overall lack of cleanliness and care. We also had no toilet paper in ANY of the bathrooms when we arrived. Fortunately, the maintenance man brought some within 1 hour of calling. In addition, the seating area in the sun room had a cushion missing and the couch was very old and lumpy, as well as, both sofas and chairs were uncomfortable and worn. The cottage had an overall appearance of being unkempt and worn down.

We are regular travelers to Ireland and have stayed in various accommodations from 5 star resorts, to lavish B&B's, to beautiful HomeAway properties. We contacted the owner with our concerns, but got no response.

Owner's Response: We were saddened to receive this review as it is the first negative review we have ever received since beginning to rent our home in 2007. It took us some time to consider how best to handle this situation as the renters who submitted this review contacted us in advance and indicated that if we offered them some form of remedy, they would modify the review. We do not believe in extortion and therefore did not respond. We do however believe in the beauty and dignity of our family home and therefore feel we should post a public response. We have addressed the issue with the stove, as it had not been working properly before the renters arrived. It is a traditional Aga stove, common to Irish and English cottages, and does provide heating to the house as well as cooking functions. We have clear instructions in the guest manual for using the stove, and our caretakers are extremely responsive to any guests who may have questions. Prospective renters can see that all of the other renters who have reviewed our house before and since have mentioned the elegance and good taste of the cottage. We have left for our guests' use Barbour raincoats, rainboots and hats in the foyer and golf clubs in the hallway closet. As to other personal clutter, there is none to speak of. We regret that these renters were not pleased with their stay but are heartened that every other renter who has stayed in our house has left greatly satisfied by their stay and with an eagerness to return.

A peaceful and stunningly beautiful cottage

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is truly a little bit of heaven in a wonderful location. Doolin is full of friendly people with lovely pubs, restaurants and shops. The cottage is remote enough to be completely peaceful but close to the Cliffs of Moher and Ferries to the Aran Islands. There is music at the pubs most nights and plenty of activities such as golf, hiking and we enjoyed the sheep herding demo. If you are going to Ireland ... add Doolin and this cottage to your itinerary.
