Acorn Timbers is a lake front vacation rental on beautiful Lake O' the Pines. Fish, swim, bring your boat or rent one near by. Shop in historic Jefferson or enjoy the casinos in Shrevport. Or just relax and enjoy the sunsets, deer, and birds like our piliated woodpeckers. All you need to bring is your food and clothes. .
Wonderful experience. This was a perfect getaway and great fishing! Crappie, Bass, and catfish! Watching the sun set each evening over the lake was breathtaking. We will be going back!
Beautiful view of lake from deck and fun place to stay with our dogs. Close to parks and interesting town of Jefferson. Could use a tv upgrade but all other amenities were good
Great place for a quiet time with the family or friends. We stayed for several days and didn't hear anything but the birds and the occasional passing boat. The fishing off the shoreline was good (some big bass) and Mr Ball was very friendly.
If you are interested in antique shopping in a small town, Jefferson is nearby and offers some unique stores and restaurants. I recommend Riverport BBQ for pretty good food.
The sunsets were amazing and the scenery is pure Piney Woods.
I recommend it.
This lakefront cabin provides the essentials for a pleasant vacation at a fair price. The cabin also comes with a canoe and a small boat, which were critical for us as the dock was unreachable from land due to high lake levels. That's a good problem to have, no complaints, but if you're expecting to walk out onto a dock you may want to research first. It was easy enough to launch the boat from land, as there is a set of stone steps descending to the water.
The large master bedroom is on the first floor, with a full bathroom attached. The other bedrooms are at the top of a steep set of stairs, and you must pass through one bedroom (with a full bed) to reach the second bedroom (two twin mattresses on floor-level frames). This setup was not a problem for us, but renters with small children, mobility issues, or privacy needs should be aware.
Each room has its own A/C unit on the wall, so individual preferences can be accommodated. The second bathroom is off of the living area, with a clothes dryer (but no washer, as stated in the property description). The living area is quite large and the deck is ample - we enjoyed using both. The kitchen is adequate for simple meals, and there is a charcoal grill available. We brought our own deep fryer and were pleased to catch enough fish to need it!
Regarding food, there is a WalMart Neighborhood Market in the town of Lone Star, the closest location to pick up fresh grocery items. For eating out, we highly recommend Five D Cattle Co. in Avinger for a great dinner. They take reservations, and are willing to split meals between diners.
As many reviewers have stated, the sunsets here are lovely!
For the last two vacations Paw Paw and I have taken the grands on the vacations of their choosing. This year we decided to spend a little quiet time to ourselves and a little closer to home. This location was PERFECT! We fished everyday- starting at daybreak, resting through the heat of the day then back at it around sunset. We got some beautiful sunset photos from the dock during our stay and the fishing was wonderful.
We stood on the deck each evening and watched deer as they visited us and the adjoining properties. There were even a couple of small fawns with the group of ten or so deer who seemed to have very little fear as they watched us watching them between their frolicking and snacking.
The cabin was very well maintained and true to its description. Everything we needed as far as kitchen items was available. It was even stocked with plenty of laundry, bathroom and kitchen sundries (although we brought our own).
Even though the owners were out of town, they provided us with a contact person who was very nice and helpful in answering our questions. He even found us some life vests to use in the canoe or paddle boat if we chose to go out.
One evening we road through town and visited the spillway, surrounding area and Lone Star. We didn't eat out at all because we had brought along more than enough food for the stay. Between this and our trips to obtain live fishing bait, our activities were limited to the dock on the lake and the football games! Very restful and calming indeed.
We have told all our family and co-workers about this rental unit and have given them the website address. Thanks Phil for the wonderful home away from home and an atmosphere that definitely what we were looking for. Hopefully we will get to spend another "backyard" vacation in your rental and bring the grands along.
Beautiful spot, easy access on a good road, friendly owners, comfortable bed. 20 minutes to fun little town of Avinger with neat stores and great hometown steakhouse. 30 minutes to Jefferson with tons to do. We took the mule-drawn carriage ride - fantastic. Cabin is clean and in good condition. Plenty of seating for a big group. We sat on the deck and watched the deer in the front yard and sat on the dock and watched the pelicans and fall foliage. Fantastic!
Only less-than-perfects: It's not really secluded like it appears in the photos. Owners live next door, you're sort of surrounded by their outbuildings. The heater/AC is terribly confusing...well, really it was just the explanation of how to operate it that was confusing. Anything that complicated needs to be written down. It was so noisy that it woke us up, so we turned it off anyway and just used extra blankets. So, pretty much no complaints.
We will definitely stay again.
