Torre Montefollonico is a magnificent two bedroom apartment in a castle in the tiny hilltop village of Montefollonico. This unique and romantic home has two bedrooms, a library, and a 12th century fairy tale tower with private rooftop patio. This is the perfect place to enjoy a glass of Vino Nobile as the sun sets on the wondrous horizon. The furnishings are an eclectic mix of wonderful antiques and the best in Italian modern design. This is a large spacious apartment with a high ceiling dining room with exposed beams and new high end kitchen appliances. There is a DSL high-speed internet connection and Wi-Fi for your convenience.
Torre Montefollonico is within 15 minutes by car from Pienza, Unesco Heritage site and Montepulciano, two of the best regarded Tuscan towns. While the apartment is in the village and provides the convenience of a 5 minute walk to four great restaurants, including the NY Times reviewed La Chiusa, with an ATM, pharmacy, and food stores, the setting is pastoral. You will hear sheep bells and watch sparrows wheel about from your patio. You can walk for miles through olive trees and vineyards near Monte Oliveto, Bagno Vignoni, and Moltacino.
This apartment has unbelievably great view of Tuscan country side.
Castle Apartment with wonderous views
We stayed at the Tuscan Tower for one week of a three week visit to Italy to
celebrate my 60th birthday. We chose this property because of the views,
the comfortable beds and linens and because it was located in a small
village with several local restaurants. We wanted to be able to come back to
the village after a day of exploring Tuscany and freshen up to go out to
dinner without having to drive. We were not disappointed. The property is
very comfortable and well tended. There are comfortable beds, nice pillows
and big thirsty towels. The kitchen is very modern and convenient. The view
from the tower is unbelievable. The village of Montefollonico is so clean and
friendly. Everyone went out of their way to help us and be cordial. The local
restaurants recommended to us by John and Wendy were excellent, La Botte
Piena, 13 Gobbi and La Chiusa.
This must be just about the most beautiful self-catering apartment we've ever stayed in. Everything about it was perfect. Tastefully decorated, simple, elegant and very well appointed, naturally air-conditioned with shuttered and screened windows to keep out heat and mosquitoes, cool terracotta floors and it's even got its own tower. There are panoramic views to Montepulciano, Pienza and as far as Cortona. It's in a lovely village and well positioned for tours of southern Tuscany. I don't know why it's taken me so long to review it. I've been thinking of our holiday here ever since we left (and writing blog posts about it - http://blog.rowleygallery.co.uk/walking-to-montepulciano/). Thank you John & Wendy for a fantastic stay.
This is a really special place and was the highlight of our honeymoon in Italy! The apartment, or "the castle" as we fondly called it, is incredible! It comes with it's own private tower which is perfect for enjoying prosecco, watching the sunset, and generally enjoying the relaxing atmosphere of Montefollonico! The apartment is really spacious, and extremely comfortable! You will feel at home during the stay!
We knew we wanted to stay in this area, but weren't too familiar with Montefollonico. We felt so lucky picked this place, as it was so friendly, quiet, and beautiful, while still having nice amenities like a small grocery store and lots of great restaurants.
The owners of the tower, John and Wendy were so helpful in making our stay extra special! Wendy gave us some great recommendations for cooking classes at La Chiusa and La Botte Piensa (do both if you can!), and John gave us some great photo walks to explore the Tuscan countryside. They also gave us lots of tips for enjoying the area, from wine to restaurants to cheese recommendations! It really makes a difference having a local share all their insider tips, and John and Wendy have lots of tips to share for whatever you're interested in!
I highly recommend this place: Montefollonico is quaint, the people were lovely, food was great, scenery amazing, and the tower was fantastic! Stay for at least four days, or a week plus if you have the time!
The apartment was in a great location, it was clean, and had a great view from the tower. Owner was very responsive. Having an old castle as a home for a week helped us feel like we were in Tuscany, walking around the castle was at times challenging as it is old, and not all the floors are level, but that added to the feel of Tuscany.
5 stars – Enter the gates to Montefollonico and you’ve entered another world, a world of tranquility and quiet beauty. The town, surrounded by walls built in the 12th century, consists of a few cobblestoned narrow roads lined with old stone buildings with flower boxes. And, at the foot of the walled town sits the town’s castle. This beautifully restored building has been divided into 4 or 5 apartments. John and Wendy’s Tower is the top floor of the castle and includes the rook-shaped tower. The apartment is beautiful with a large living room/kitchen that has gourmet kitchen appliances and French door windows that open to a panoramic view of olive groves, vineyards and Tuscan farmland which seems to go on forever. The two bedrooms contain comfortable beds. And the bathrooms have high-end fixtures. When we arrived, we found that John and Wendy had left a bottle of the town’s wine for us. We immediately climbed to the top of the tower and enjoyed the wine while taking in the sun setting over the countryside. In the mornings, we would go to the town’s market and pick up pastries and eggs and eat breakfast on top of the tower. On some evenings, after returning from daytrips, we would make dinner and take in the cooler evening breezes on top of the tower. When we were in Italy, the country was in the midst of a heatwave. Even though the apartment is not air conditioned, the apartment quickly cooled down in the evenings. Without the tower, the apartment would still have been lovely. But, with the tower, we truly felt like we were royalty. This was the perfect base for a week in Tuscany. But, truthfully, we could have spent the entire week in Montefollonico, hiking in the nearby El Tondo park, eating at the restaurants, and visiting with the town’s vintner. This is a magical one-of-a-kind place.
John and Wendy have a great apartment, make the process of booking very easy and give a lot of good advice on where to visit, eat etc. Montefollonico is a lovely, quiet town with some very good restaurants and also a good base to explore the area.
We arrived in the late and in the dark, thought what a pretty town and apartment, woke up and then WOW !!! The views from the windows are great, and then you get to the Tower - 360 degree view to die for.
So thanks John and Wendy, loved the apartment and appreciated all your advice - we'll be back :)
Awesome place to stay in a quiet peaceful Tuscan hilltop town. Apartment was very rustic and had terrific views. Very clean apartment equipped with evrything you need to enjoy yourself. The restaurants in town are great and you have to stop by Inocenti winery to sample the Vino Noblie de Montepulciano. This place is very close to Pienza and Montepulciano. John was very easy to work with and supplied all the details to make our stay wonderful
