Beautiful little oasis right on the beach!

  • 5 of 5

The property is about an hour from the airport and is just as described. The pool is a plunge pool, not meant for swimming laps. There is a small town within minutes for groceries and Jaco is only 20 minutes away.

Caretakers came and cleaned the pool and grounds every day. Plenty of clean linens were available. The beds were comfortable. The only time we were in the house was to cook or sleep. We had the beach completely to ourselves. The location of the house is perfect for viewing beautiful sunsets every night. Patri was very helpful but gave us our privacy.

The highlight of our vacation though, was Jarra and Elbi, the caretakers. They were so helpful and friendly, even with the language barrier they were patient and caring. We even shared a few dinners at their casa and ours. We were taken on in a mountain hike where we could see the entire coast, just as the sun was setting. Amazing country! Amazing people! They are now amigos of ours and we will miss them! We will definitely return!

Dirty and bug infested

  • 2 of 5

We were looking forward to our stay at Casa Amarilla. However, we decided to leave within hours of our arrival, but due to the late hour, left the following day. The house itself is an older style home, which suited us perfectly. It was nicely decorated. The bugs and dirt are what drove us away! The floors were extremely dirty. The smell of Raid was overwhelming, and ants, spiders, roaches all throughout the house! Not to mention ant nests in the bottom corners of the wall/floor boards. Also, if the common areas don't have a/c, then some changes should be made to help with air flow in the house. There was no movement of air whatsoever, and because the screens were broken, we also had to close the front door so that the mosquitos would be kept out. The locks on the home made us slightly uncomfortable...bolt style locks. We were advised that the area can be sketchy, and all items should be kept out of sight...kinda common sense stuff, but the bolts added a touch of concern with the safety level of the neighborhood. The macaws in the morning were great to watch. The beach area was also very dirty...it was unclear as to whether it had washed ashore or if it was just stuff thrown away by the neighbors. There were big trash mounds on the property lines of most homes. I wish I could recommend this property, but unless some major attention to detail occurs, It's not a home away from home that I would recommend.

Patricia worked with us and seemed understanding of our concerns. She refunded us 40% of what we paid.

OUR HOME AWAY FROM HOME!

  • 5 of 5

NOT ENOUGH GOOD CAN BE SAID ABOUT THIS PLACE!!! The house is charming, clean and has everything you need, the proximity to Tarcoles/Jaco/SJO is perfect. You can walk into Tarcoles, buy fresh fish every day at bargain prices, and enjoy a beer and excellent ceviche at Chepes. Some of our group did Jose's Crocodile River Tour and loved it. The sunsets every day are breathtaking. Patri is SO helpful and gracious, promptly responsive when we had any questions. Jarra, Elbi and Gerardo that maintain the property regularly clean up the gardens and look after the pool, and are outstanding. Incredibly safe, secluded little piece of paradise. Beautiful beach walks either direction. We've stayed here 2 years in a row and will be back again next year. This place, and these people, are gems, PURA VIDA. <3

Casa Amarillo

  • 3 of 5

My cousin & I spent 10 great days at Casa Amarillo. It was a good location from which to do some fun excursions and we really enjoyed just hanging around on the grounds reading and playing cards when we weren't sightseeing. Watching the Macaws was another favorite pastime. Patri was very helpful when we called on her, and the caretakers worked regularly to keep the pool and grounds clean. While we didn't spend much time inside, I do think it could use a bit of TLC and upgrading. I would have given it a 3.5 star evaluation if that were possible.

Beautiful, relaxing home in the "real" Costa Rica

  • 5 of 5

Casa Amarilla is a beautiful oasis and a great place from which to start your adventure. Only about 1.5 hours from the airport (follow Patricia's directions and you shouldn't have any problems), the casa is right on the beach with a beautiful yard. In the morning, drink you coffee on the patio and watch the scarlet macaws having breakfast in the almond trees surrounding the pool. If your an early riser, around 6am you can walk out and watch the neighborhood fisherman bring in his catch and clean it while surrounded by 30 or so pelicans. It is a beautiful walk in either direction, with the village of Tarcoles to the right and a fun beach front restaurant to the left.

The house is very comfortable and well stocked for you stay. Jarra is very friendly and fun to talk to, even if you don't speak Spanish! If you like dogs, then this is the house for you. The neighborhood dogs are all very friendly and well behaved and love nothing better than to join you on a walk on the beach.

The neighbors are a little loud and like to stay up late but they are friendly and having a good time. We felt like their music just added to the ambiance! We would definitely stay here again and for a longer time.

WONDERFUL PLACE!

  • 5 of 5

Casa Amarilla is an absolute gem, we couldn't have been more thrilled with our choice. Everything was exactly as described, and we swam in the ocean right outside the house - the water was so warm! Patri, Jarra and Elbi were so helpful, answered all of our questions immediately and Jarra cut coconuts for us and taught us how to BBQ fish in a banana leaf, delicious! The property was clean, had everything we needed and was very quaint. The location was ideal, quiet but only half an hour to Jaco, close to the fishing village for anything we needed. We were going to do the crocodile tour but ended up saving the money and seeing lots just standing on the bridge instead! Every time we went anywhere, we were so glad to be coming back to our little paradise at the end of the day. I would DEFINITELY recommend this spot, and we will be back! Thank you Patri!
