Why Vicky Daly chose St John

While St John has always been our favorite place on earth, by far Catherineberg is the nicest location on all of St John. There are few prized parcels in this coveted location and you hardly know there is another property around. Located right in the middle of St John's north shore National Park, the views are some of the best on the planet. The convenience to the north shore beaches yet close to town is another factor in our choosing this location. The feel of Old St John with the nearby Catherineberg ruins adds a special uniqueness.

Island Stones will forever be the most special place on earth for my wife and I. We were married right on the pool deck May 1, 2010. If you think the pictures are beautiful, just wait until you see the views with your own eyes. It is a Grand Canyon type experience, only Caribbean style. I recommend the bumpy drive up John's Head Road for an utterly adventurous accent to paradise. For those less daring, it is easily accessible by the main road. This is the perfect villa for a couple or for a large group. We know because we did both during our 2 week stay. St John is an amazing island. It gets under your skin and stays with you. Having traveled all over the island a couple times now, we still haven't found a more beautiful setting than Island Stones. If you are looking for a place to appreciate the beauty and splendor of nature, don't hesitate to book Island Stones. Each of your guests (even 12) will have ample privacy due to the layout of the bedrooms. And for socializing, there is no better place than the pool deck, outside bar and patio. This villa is clean, private, comfortable and just can't say enough about those views. They will put you into a trance and take your breath away.

Please take me back ....

This property is absolutely wonderful, with potentially the best outdoor space we've ever stayed at. We stayed here from April 1-8 with another couple - needless to say, the four of us had MORE than enough space. The bedrooms are extremely private, & the baths plentiful. We enjoyed meals at the house, looking out over Jost, Tortola and Maho Bay. The view is simply beyond breathtaking ... and continues to change throughout the day. The home is in a TERRIFIC location to enjoy both the east end, northern beaches, Coral Bay and Cruz Bay. We have NEVER spent a full day at a home and one of the days, we spent our entire day at the house, floating around the pool, enjoying cocktails and lunch on the spacious pool deck, never getting enough of what truly may be the most beautiful view on earth. Thank you, from Minneapolis & Atlanta.

We're surrounded by national park so the view is almost entirely nature. I too love how the view changes throughout the day as you sit at the outdoor bar, lounge on the terrace or float in the pool. Awesome vacation. Rent A Jeep !

Excellent stay in many respects ! Visited with my adult children - so 3 couples. The view of course is spectacular. The rooms are all so lovely it was difficult to choose which to use. House was immaculate, and Erickson was a great help with arrival orientation and questions. Even though there are numerous snorkeling sights and other activities and restaurants you should definitely allow lots of time for enjoying this wonderful villa. Buy supplies and eat in - lunch, dinner, relaxing. We took a couple of days "off" and just stayed at the villa - fanatastic ! RENT A JEEP ! We have stayed on St. John before and rented elsewhere so we were familiar with the roads, driving on the left, etc. What caught us unaware was the lengthy drive off the Center Line Road to the property. We had rented an SUV and a Nissan Altima. The SUV was fine but the poor Altima had great difficulty negotiating the moonscape approach to the property. There are severe dips, bumps, and rock outcroppings that a low clearance vehicle is not equipped to handle. RENT A JEEP ! Thank you to John (the owner) for checking in on us during the stay to make sure all was going well. Power went out several times but the onsite generator worked beautifully and kicked in very quickly. We are absolutely looking forward to staying again in the hopefully not too distant future.

Spectacular!

Island Stones delivered the amazing views it promised! Our group of 10 enjoyed the celebration of some special birthdays in this amazing Villa. There is plenty of space in the kitchen/great room to socialize and prepare meals. The outdoor living space was perfect for us all to hang out, day and evening. Would highly recommend, especially for this size group.

Nothing beats Island Stones

As I sit here at the pool writing this review I have to brag on the view. The pics don't do it justice! The outside bar, the lounge chairs, the infinity pool, all overlooking the most gorgeous beach below. I've been to STJ many times and stayed in many different villas but this goes down as my favorite, by far! The beds are comfy, linens are great, well stocked kitchen, beautiful bathrooms, outdoor showers, & gorgeous stonework every where you turn. The house was spotless when we arrived and check in process went smooth. We never want to leave Island Stones! Thank you for this amazing villa to spend Christmas with family!

Roach Motel, Sub-Par Maintenance--BEWARE!!!

Roach Motel and Poorly Maintained--BEWARE!!!

Having been a vrbo renter without incident for the last 10 years, imagine our shock, disappointment and disgust to show up for what was supposed to have been Thanksgiving in paradise only to find an ill-maintained house INFESTED with roaches (and I am from New York City so I know from where I speak!). Dead ones, lives ones, they were everyone--in the kitchen, the bathrooms, the bedrooms...! When I called the property manager to complain, a handyman was sent over and handed us a can of Raid and 4 roach traps--seriously? There was no follow up beyond that until I called again the next day, at which point I was passed on to our contact person's boss. After calling her, she came over and sprayed 4 cans of Raid (which I only knew because I had to call her yet again, that she asked me if the roach situation had improved). It got so unbearable, that the friends we were sharing the house with, a family of 5, had to leave and stay at a hotel for the duration of our stay! Property management was made aware of this and yet, there was no offer to move us to another property or hotel, no offer to comp our friends stay at the hotel, no attempt to send over a pest control company, and NO FOLLOW UP FROM THE OWNER OF THE HOUSE! When I spoke with the property manger on our next to last day, she told me that in her 37 years on the island, she had never seen a roach infestation of such magnitude. She compared it to the "twilight zone" and said that "we deserved compensation big time". Suffice it to say, this whole situation tremendously impacted our trip--we were all so uncomfortable in the house that we did everything we could not to spend time there (which is the opposite of what you want to do when you spend an exorbitant amount of money for a house).

After returning home, I was in contact with the owner of the house who decided to bring in a pest control company (note: this did not happen DURING our stay, but AFTER the fact--once I was asking for some form of compensation). According to pest control, the roach situation was an act of nature, due to the rain. Given that information, it was very curious that NOWHERE else on the island did we see even a single roach--not at any resort, restaurant, store or on any hikes! I don't know what was worse--the fact that our very expensive and long-anticipated trip was essentially ruined due to lack of upkeep or the owners utter lack of concern and cavalier attitude,

Owner's Response: We've been in touch with this guest quite a few times and take their disappointment very seriously. Of course it is our top priority for every guest to have the best vacation possible and we've had hundreds of delighted renters over the years, as you can see from other reviews. We have a regular pest control program and happened to have a thorough rodent inspection about a month prior to the guests arrival. The incident was unusual, as I'll explain, and did not originate from within the house. First, I cannot help but point out that we did offer significant compensation even though the situation originated outside of our control. They refused the offer, stating that they'd post this sort of review unless almost their entire vacation was paid for. Given the circumstances we did not find that to be at all fair. Aside from our maintenance personnel and pest control visiting the house and working with the problem several times during the stay we had the owner of HMS Pest Control, a certified specialist on island who is not affiliated with our normal company, investigate our property because of this incident to determine what was going on. We had never received this sort of response before and needed to reach the bottom of it. As it turns out, because the island underwent an unusually prolonged and heavy period of rain a certain species sometimes is driven out of their nest and are attracted to light. They can essentially swarm a house. It's not that common but did happen at other houses, according to our specialist, during this time. There was no infestation from within the house itself and occurred because of outside circumstances. The issue is completely under control and the following guests were very happy with the house. We've also taken additional steps beyond the norm to ensure that we remain one of the best vacation spots on St. John. I wish the reviewer all the best for their future vacations.

Island Stones Villa was perfect. It had everything we could possibly need and then some. The view was breathtaking, the house was clean and comfortable. Very private and lovely. Would definitely recommend this villa to everyone. You won't be disappointed. Property management were helpful and accommodating when needed.
