Photo: Linda & visiting bull moose calf.
I (Jim) & my wife, Linda were born in 1953 in Lynn & Westfield, Massachusetts. I graduated from U. Mass. (Amherst) with a BA in Early Christian Theology (Latin & Greek) and Linda graduated 1st in her class from Paier Art School in Hamden, CT. We married in 1979 and have raised 5 children. We enjoy our private, wooded location, do lots of gardening and keep chickens. We are spiritually minded (Catholics). We have always done things the simple, home way--home birth, home school, etc. We bake our own bread and raise as much of our own food as we can.
Jim and Linda Cunningham purchased this cottage in 1994
After a kidney transplant gave me (Jim) a new lease on life in 1992, our family decided to move to the woods near Jay Peak to be close to nature and as independent as possible. We are the only residence on a 1.5 mile long road. Nature abounds here. Once a bull moose calf visited our garden for weeks.
We bought these 21 wooded acres for privacy, peace, quiet and independence. We built our home and the neighboring 'Carmel Cottage' from scratch. Now that our 5 children have grown up and are raising their own families, we are still developing, having just completed renovating the top storey of our house into our second vacation rental, 'Carmel Loft.'

Warm hospitality from our host. Short drive to the mountain. We stayed with 6 guests, which was a bit tight. Sauna was nice after a day of skiing.
What a summer. A big thank you to the hosts for providing a sanctuary, the cottage. My stay was memorable in all the right ways and I was sad to move on. I would recommend this place to anyone, skier or not. Comfortable and quiet, the cottage felt like home. The hosts are thoughtful and will make you feel like family. A beautiful and special place for a night, week, or however long you have.

We had a delightful week-long stay—Jay Peak glades to classic Craftsbury touring, 40°F to -3° and 12” of powder to ski on Wednesday. Exciting and rewarding. The sauna felt great after so much outdoor fun!

Wow! What an amazing family getaway at Jay. Three days of COLD skiing at Jay, but we always came back to a roaring fire in the Cottage (Thanks, Linda!).
The Cottage was very comfy. We had everything we needed. Certainly, the wood stove and sharing the sauna with the Sutherlands [Loft guests] were the highlights. A few board games, great, homemade meals and lots of laughs… Thanks for a terrific end to Christmas vacation—back to work and school!
Woo hoo! What a clean, quiet and warm place to rest your head after a day at Jay Peak!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
We certainly hope to be back and bring our Canadian friends with us. Be well, Jim & Linda. Till we meet again!
Was lucky to have found the Loft on line. Much less expensive than any other accommodations in the area! Perfect location to Jay Peak—close enough to drive every day but far enough away to relax from the mountain every night.
Jim and Linda are very sweet and accommodating. I wish I had them for landlords when I was younger. I would recommend this location to anyone staying in the area and for certain, I’ll be back.
Other Activities: Naturism
Ski: Closest downhill skiing/snowboarding is at Jay Peak Resort (10 miles driving). Within 1 hour: Owl's Head (Quebec), Smugglers Notch (Jeffersonville), Mt. Mansfield, etc. (Stowe).
