My fiancée and I booked this house as a weekend getaway in the off chance it would be warmer in Virginia than New York in April and we lucked out with great weather and a really easy booking process with Jennifer. The house was perfect and immaculate and the location really can't be beat if you are looking for a getaway and some river time. We were able to take the kayaks out and did some fishing but it would be even more amazing to come in the summer when you can take a raft out and float down the river. We brought our dog along and she loved it as well, there are no close neighbors and no river traffic at all that time of year so we felt like we were alone in the middle of nowhere which was exactly what we were looking for. Jennifer had some great suggestions on places to visit within a 30 minute drive and we were able to spend a gorgeous day winery hopping (our favorite was cobbler mountain cellars which was very dog friendly and had wine and tons of ciders to try) but wish we would have packed a picnic because that definitely seemed like the thing everyone was doing. We also had some great food at Hunter's head in Upperville and also traveled up north a bit to check out catoctin creek distillery and Market burger-all of which I would also recommend. While we were at the house there were some minor issues that came up that Jennifer was able to help us trouble shoot quickly even though she was traveling herself that weekend which was great as well. She was very accommodating and we couldn't have asked for a better weekend getaway. We will definitely be visiting again and recommending this place to friends and family!
This home was really wonderful. I took my hubby and three kids (14, 10, & 9). We went during Spring break and it was still cooler so we didn't use the boats or the fire pit, but we did enjoy fishing and hiking. We also went to the State Park near, but I'd love to come back with my girlfriend for the wine tours in the area. There is something truly magical about being away from it all and it was a great escape for us from the hustle and bustle of the DC area. We would definitely come back . Jen the owner was really great and we stayed in touch throughout our stay. I've never met her in person, but it felt like I knew her. She was so accommodating and really wanted to make sure we had a great time there. Thanks for everything! We'll be back!
My husband and I have rented this house for a week for the past two summers. I just confirmed our booking for this summer as well! This house is perfect - private, serene, well cared for, comfortable, very clean, and has gorgeous views with easy access to the water. Our friends thought it was strange for us to pay to stay at a place that is only 45 minutes from where we live. But, this house has everything that we are looking for: water views and sounds of the river from the deck, access to a river which is clean and the perfect depth for floating in our giant vacation raft or letting our corgi wade in the shallows :-), and privacy - although you can see the river from the house, it is very difficult to see the house from the river. I have stayed in other rentals before that make me uncomfortable due to personal items and photographs scattered throughout. This rental is well-decorated and cozy - it feels like home without the odd feeling that you are invading someone else' s personal space. This allows us to truly relax and enjoy the visit. The owner is extremely easy to deal with and always thinking ahead to make certain things are just right for our visit. I am already looking forward to our week at The Riverhouse this coming summer!
My wife and I rented this incredible house for the Thanksgiving weekend in 2015. This was our first trip to Virginia's horse country. As other reviewers have mentioned the house, the views, the location and the amenities are exceptional. We are going to attempt to round up our adult children for a week's vacation this year. This is the best VRBO I've experienced. Bar none.
This house was a steal and offered so much for my whole family!!! Far enough away from it all, while still being close to so much outdoor activities. Right in the middle of Wine and Horse Country, so don't forget your boots. We loved Three Fox Vineyards, close with a great property layout and delicious wines. You will not get better views from the decks at the house and we saw not one, but TWO Bald Eagles!!! We were feeling adventurous and took the canoe down the river. The water was refreshing and the river features only small rapids, so our 4 year old had no problem. Is there any better way to cap off a awesome day out in the country then a nice fire with some s'mores? Already booked our next trip!!!!!
I already cannot wait to go back to this house and I just left! Both the house and location were absolutely amazing. The house is located on a gorgeous stretch of the Shenandoah River with great views from inside the house and on the two decks. That alone made it an incredible visit but it also made it easy to go canoeing, kayaking, among other activities. Canoes and kayaks were provided - which makes it so convenient to do what you wanted without any hassle! The float down the river is calm and great for the whole family even the dog.
The house is in great condition and has everything you need to enjoy your trip! You are close to amazing vineyards, countless activities, the lovely town of Middleburg, etc. The list could go on and on. Also, most places are dog friendly – you can bring your dog to vineyards, restaurants and all around town.
It was a great getaway and really relaxing. A house like this is hard to come by and I will be returning as soon as I can!
Use our four kayaks and explore! Winery tours and tastings nearby. Restaurants & shops.
Saturdays/Summertime: Vintage & biplane air show, Twilight Polo matches (Great Meadow)
Orchards: Peach, apple, berry picking (seasonal)
