Beatrice Rizvi purchased this cottage in 1982
Wanted to have a place of our own to spend time with our children when they were growing, then finish the inside to our specifications.
You will enjoy the cozy living room at night and during the day you can enjoy sunbathing on the dock, swimming or boating or the lake and mountain view from the porch, with occasional visits from wildlife such as beavers, loons, eagle, moose and of course plenty of birds.
You will find real peace an quiet, away from it all !
We had a great time at the cottage, we will be going back. The place is beautiful and feels like home.
Thank you for sharing this slice of heaven with us!
Beautiful! Was the first thought as we entered the cottage. It was clean and nicely decorated-the pictures do not do it justice. It was spacious and we loved the porch! We saw the beaver, ducks, loons, a family of fox's and turtles! It was very relaxing. Beatrice-thank you so much for opening up your beautiful cottage, allowing us to to let go of our daily stress and enjoy life!
We arrived to a cute, clean, little cabin with plenty of breathing room for our family of two grownups and two high-energy little ones. We enjoyed the screened porch for all of our meals and the kids were enraptured by the frequent visiting ducks. The pond was perfect for fishing and canoeing and just generally splashing around. We had dear friends staying at a neighboring cabin and there was seating and plates enough that we could easily accommodate the 6 of them for a group breakfast and a dinner. The only recommendations I'd make for a family visiting with small children would be to bring child-sized life jackets, to know that the bunk bed is very narrow and there is no rail on the top bunk (we put our 7 year old in the double bed and our 4 year old on the bottom bunk) and to remember to bring a large pan if you plan to cook for a crowd. Also, storage space/flat surfaces were pretty tough to find- the cabin had lots of sweet decorations, knickknacks, books, and games (which were great!) but as a result we had to move things around quite a lot to make room for our stuff which made me nervous that I wouldn't remember where I moved things from. Otherwise the property was thoughtfully prepared for visitors and the property owners were kind, reasonable and easy to work with. I would definitely recommend this sweet cabin.
My husband, 3 year old son and I were looking for a place on a lake to unplug (though there is some reception for AT&T users), swim, relax and boat that had basic amenities without being too rustic. This was perfect, and nicer than I had hoped! The cottage is spotless with soft carpeting throughout, adorable decorations but nothing over the top. It felt like the log cabin in the woods we were hoping for. There is TV, but thankfully just all PBS stations, however there is a DVD player that entertained our son in the early evening when he was exhausted from playing outside all day.
Beatrice was more than helpful with anything we needed and thought of everything that might be necessary for a 3 year old renter even before I did! You can walk into the lake (with water shoes) to swim, or play in the shallows like my son did. The dock is nice and wide where I had no worries about my son being out there. It was also the perfect place for my husband and I to watch the Perseids at night. We brought our canoe, but really didn't have to as there's a nice paddle boat (my son loved to ride along in that), a canoe and a rowboat. The bedrooms were lovely, and comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked - both in basics like sugar for coffee and pots and pans, and plates and glasses. The screened in porch was a delight to have as it can get buggy at dusk, so it was a perfect place to have all of our meals. We didn't leave the cabin often, but did go into St. Johnsbury to the great Natural History Museum, and further north to see the Bread and Puppet museum and their circus performance, and a bit north to visit the Cabot Creamery and over to Littleton, NH to check out the galleries. All were an hour or under away. And the cabin has flyers for so many sights to see in the area.
Definitely go - a perfect place to unwind for all ages.
This was our fifth year to visit this lovely spot on Miles Pond and we are absolutely smitten with the cottage, the lake, and the whole area (Vermont's "Northeast Kingdom.") There are many things we love about the cottage.
1. It's just perfect for the two of us in size and amenities. We don't want for anything while there. On the other hand, it will accommodate 6 people nicely, so when we've had our children/grandchildren there for an overnight, that is very comfortable too.
2. Then, there is the porch! When not at the water, we spend most of the time on the large screened porch. It is beautiful there from early morning until dark. The scene is always changing - ducks, geese, loons, eagles, and songbirds are in abundance. The light on the lake from sunset to sundown is amazing. All your stress melts away the moment you step onto the porch.
3. Inside the cottage is roomy and the Rizvis have provided things over the years to make sure the guests are comfortable and have what is necessary to have a nice time there. There are games for children and adults, books, a full array of brochures and information about nearby locations, as well as a well-stocked stocked kitchen, making the living easy!
4. For those who like to dine out, there are nice places within a short driving distance. St. Johnsbury, VT and Littleton, NH are both towns that have a fairly vibrant downtown with a nice variety or stores and restaurants. We rarely want to leave the lake in the evening because it is so beautiful at that time, but for those who like to go out, there is plenty to choose from. And within driving distance, if you are looking for a day out, there are some lovely areas to explore.
5. Finally, the owners care very much about making sure everything goes well for their visitors. You will find them very caring and helpful!
We feel so lucky to have found this spot that we love so much!

This cottage and the setting are even lovelier than the photos show. The cottage has been completely updated, has everything you might need and is furnished nicely. It was great to have a screened porch to read or eat if it was rainy or buggy out. The spot on the lake is near the end of the road so it was very quiet and beautiful with the mountains in the background - we saw a loon family, bald eagles, kingfishers, lots of ducks and fish jumping. We wish we had some kayaks to explore the lake as the paddleboat was slow and pretty noisy - next time we will try to bring some. There is some growth of lillypads that it would be nice to clean out around parts of the lake, but other than that out stay was perfect.
