Here's an excerpt from an email we received from a family member of this guest:
Hello my family and I had a lot of quality time there, everyone enjoyed it very much ! ...........
We hope to stay again next year.
Thank you for a lovely time !
Then we discovered they had a wedding on our property which we were never informed of in advance and which we would never allow due to the disruption in our other guests vacationing at our property. One of those other guests complained that they were not informed there would be a wedding which they found themselves right in the middle of. We gave them a $200 refund to help offset their inconvenience. II then asked this party to please reimburse us since they did not inform us and did not pay our $1500 wedding fee. That's when we were threatened and told they would post negative remarks about our listing and obviously they followed through. They never talked to a maintenance man, we have none, they never were congratulated about their wedding we did not know of it. Sad that there are people who apparently decide to cover their guilt with cover-up accusations. We run a very thoughtful and caring business. We reimbursed our other complaining guests who were disrupted by this wedding. I just asked them to reimburse us for that refund since by not informing us they were having a wedding they avoided our $1500 wedding fee.
I've stayed at this resort for the past 10 years.
Everything about it is wonderful. The sunsets are breathtaking and the cottages are quaint and lovely.
Every year my family rents a cottage on Lake Michigan for a week. This was the first year that we went somewhere new because the place we normally go changed their pet policy.
Never having had any friends stay at Sunset Beach, I didn't know what to expect other than:
My immediate family and my husband's immediate family (no grandparents, aunts, or friends etc...) being present for our short 45 min (tops) wedding commitment ceremony. We kept it small to be respectful and to save money. Little did we know that planning our trip at the cottages at Sunset Beach would be a HUGE mistake.
The day before the wedding, the groundskeeper (who was AWARE of the wedding) offered to mow the lawn on the bluff so that he didn't interrupt the ceremony the next day. I thought he was thoughtful to do that and I thanked him, while he congratulated me. Besides the groundskeeper, the person who booked my mom's cottage over the phone knew about the wedding because they gave her the cottage with better views because "it would be prettier for the wedding"
When my mother arrived to stay in the front cottage, she was rudely asked by another man renting a cottage to move her car because he claimed that HE had access to all of the front parking spots (even though he was in one of 4 cottages surrounding the few parking spots up front). He made other various comments under his breath to them, and watched my family through his windows. This man was extremely out of line in the way that he spoke to my family, yet my mother respectfully moved her car and ignored the man's attempt to start problems. (Note:There was nothing posted saying which parking spots were for which cottages)
The day of the wedding, after sweating through all of our clothes as we slept with no provided fans and NO AC, we started the day with getting ready in the SCUM-INFESTED, standing-water filled showers, under the insufficient lighting (there were light bulbs out everywhere) and watching our feet so we didn't step on the EXPOSED NAILS on the stairs as we went about the house. The only 3 guests to come (my father, his fiance and step-daughter) came around 2:30 (and left before 8), which is around the time we were being spied on by a neighbor who was taking pictures of us on his phone and staring out the window. I was extremely disturbed by his watching and documenting us without our permission, when we had been so courteous to be quiet and not disrupt anyone else's time.
Our activities during the day w
