My husband and I share this home with our four sons. We have lived in San Francisco for 20 years and have brought our children up in this home for 16 years.
Hilary Billings purchased this house in 1997
Lake Street is one of the prettiest streets in San Francisco. The street is a long, flat boulevard that runs along the Presidio so it is edged by wilderness along the entire length. It is a perfect neighborhood for kids as it is safe and easy to walk and filled the parks to play in. We chose the Richmond for its proximity to all the special sites in the city, including the Presidio, the Golden Gate Park and the beaches. There are shopping streets and many parks within a few blocks. It is close to all parts of the city and only a 2 minute drive to the Golden Gate bridge, making getting to Marin or Napa very easy and fast.
Our home has been recently remodeled to create an open, sunny floorplan. There are windows in every part of the house and all the rooms are spacious. Our home is bright and light, even on foggy days.
The house was even better than we expected. It was stylishly decorated, very well equipped and spotlessly clean. The beds were comfortable, and we had plenty of room for our 4 kids. Our youngest appreciated especially the toys available, which were a nice bonus. The trampoline in the backyard kept our older kids entertained for lond periods of time.
The house had a parking spot on the street, which was large enough for our 8 person car (Ford Explorer I think, similar size than Yukon xl).
The location of the house was great, the street is one of the nicest in the area. There is a beach nearby ( about 5-10min walk), a small grocery store with a good selection and several restaurants. I appreciated most the Land's End nearby as there was a good trail for running - with great views toward the Golden Gate.
I recommend the house highly and would definitely stay there another time - unfortunately not likely as SF is far away from Finland.
An amazing place to stay in San Francisco. We came on a family trip and the house suited our needs perfectly. Plenty of space, a great kitchen that had everything we could ever need and a large table to enjoy many great meals and fun! The house was just as described and places for all 9 of our family to sleep! We could walk to the beach, and grocery stores. We felt safe and our kids could walk to the store or coffee shop. To see the Golden Gate Bridge from the 3rd floor was great. The house was very clean on arrival and there was a very detaliled instruction book about rules of the house and information about surrounding area.
We were close to public transportation to get to all the places we wanted with our muni passport. We saw so much! Our favorites were biking over the Golden Gate to Sausolito, swimming at Baker Beach, Alcatraz night tour (reserve early!) the mission district (El Metate at Bryant and 22nd in the Mission district-the best guac and burritos!), chinatown(House of Nanking-much different than the Chinese food in NY but so delicious), Sushi and noodles from many places on Geary. Scomas in Sausolito was really great for seafood and nice eating over the bay. We went to Sterling Vineward in Napa - a winery for the adults with a gondola ride for the kids! And of course many many cable car rides.
Hillary was available before we went and during our stay for any and all questions. She made us feel very welcome in her home!
My youngest perfected their trampoline basketball in the very private feeling backyard.
Our entire family would highly recommend this property and we would go back! There is still so much to see in this great city!
This beautiful, clean, well-appointed home was absolutely perfect for our multi-generational family, which included 5 adults, two 8-year old boys, a 4 year-old girl, and a 16 year-old boy. The trampoline, basketball court, grand piano, computers with wifi, and the awesome playroom kept everyone occupied and entertained. The kitchen is extremely well equipped. We were in the bay area for a family reunion, and we were able to entertain extended family (16 more kids and adults) on two separate occasions; this house was perfect for that, too.
Although the description says it sleeps eight, it really can comfortably accommodate more with two surprisingly comfortable Euro beds with plenty of extra space and linens. All of the regular beds were very comfortable as well, even the bunk beds.
We found the location to be ideal -- short walks to the beach, Angelina's Cafe (a must), Muni transportation, GG Park. If you do have a car, this is also a convenient location from which to branch out to the rest of the Bay Area.
The owner was extremely helpful and immediately answered our questions about the property, both before our arrival and during our stay. A large binder is provided with instructions and information about the property, the neighborhood (lots of menus from local restaurants), the city and the area (all kinds of brochures and maps). I would definitely stay here again and have already recommended it to friends.
We had a wonderful stay here. This is a beautiful house with lots of character in a quiet neighborhood. Our 2 pre-teens loved the trampoline and treehouse, and felt right at home here. We enjoyed the peace and quiet, the spacious surroundings, the well equipped kitchen and the views of Golden Gate (when the fog permitted). We frequented the great coffee shop nearby every morning, and had to choose from dozens of small eateries / restaurants within a ten minute walk. If you don't mind walking, there's no need for a car, and transit service is handy once you figure out the SF Muni site. A bus ride downtown and a cab ride back was cheaper and easier than trying to find parking downtown -- and we did both. Our only regret was not spending more time in the nearby parks.
There are a number of reasons we prefer home rentals to hotels, and this house met all of them for us.
We loved this wonderful home in the best of all settings, so convenient to so many of SF's most famous attractions. The home is so open and sunny and cheerful. It is spotlessly clean and the neighbors and neighborhood are best ! We'll be back for sure.
